Should all gadgets be banned in school, apart from during ICT lessons?

  • Reduce Cyber bullying!

If we are not allowed to use our mobiles bullying will be reduced! There are many incidents of bullying that would simply not happen if people didn't have their mobiles with them at school. The same with all gadgets. Ipads are just the same - people take pictures they shouldn't and its not fair.

  • A sign of respect.

Using one's gadgets may seem disrespectful to a teacher. A student should be more considerate and more sensitive. Hahahahahahha

  • They are distracting

It would be great if students displayed self-control and only used their electronic devices for academic purposes when the teacher allows them to do so. Sadly, this isn't the reality. What they're actually doing is texting, playing games, or surfing the internet when they should be paying attention and learning. Then they cause a scene when their devices are taken away because they are using them inappropriately. Today's teenagers are addicted to their devices and have no sense of when it is and isn't appropriate to use them. Save teachers the hassle of policing what's on a student's iPhone screen and just ban them outright.

  • One word, Emergencies

What if something happens, for example a student forgot his/her lunch?
He/She will have to call parents to deliver the food and to do that that student will need a phone, which is obviously a gadget.
What if a student feels sick and needs to go home? How will that student contact parents to return home? Of course it only makes sense to use gadgets with teacher's permission or usage in breaks.

Someone on the YES side said that this causes bullying. Well, I would prefer an angry text to a punch in the face from a big tough bully. Which would probably what the bully would do if there was no phones allowed.

  • "Gadgets" are helpers, not hinderers

Banning "gadgets" won't make it so kids don't bring them. It won't reduce the cyberbullying or anything so they best way to control it is to not try to control it. I went to school we were allowed to have our phones and ipods and things out during classes, lunch and free periods as long as the teacher wasn't teaching a lesson and you were efficient on schoolwork. Myself, enjoyed it and it was very helpful. I was able to listen to music which is enjoyable and instead of feeling pressured, i felt relaxed and was able to think about the questions and then think how to answer them. Banning it won't fix the problem, kids are going to sneak them in repeatedly and they won't care. It doesn't make the drama in kid's lives easier either.
