As a soccer player, I can tell that there is no better feeling than being out there on that field showing people what i can really do. It's my time to shine. Now, why can't a dog that's performing in a dog show, a horse that's about to begin it's race, or a dolphin that's doing flips and tricks feel the same excitement and thrill that I feel? After all, they're just like humans, feelings and goals. Next time you go to the circus, look at that man swallowing swords, that woman walking the tight and the clows parking the tiny car. do you think that they really hate doing what they do? They have a talent. I trick that they learned. All they is to show someone who will appreciate it. It's the same thing with animals. They know something that's fun for them and love it, otherwise they wouldn't do it, or die trying.
Why should we take away there hobby and passion? I know I'd be miserable if someone took away my cleats but they didn't approve.
It is acceptable to use animals for sport or entertainment such as a rodeo, a fox hunt, or a horse race. In doing this people are entertained and animals are not harmed. If the animals are well treated, the value received by spectators is worth it. However, if animals are treated inhumanely, the ideal of treating all creatures well and not causing pain is more important.
In my opinion, animals are definitely inferior and less intelligent than humans. We eat animals, ride horses for recreation, make oxen plow the fields, and interbreed species (such as a lion and a tiger to get a liger) just because they attract visitors to zoos. So there is no reason they shouldn't be used as objects of sport and entertainment too.
Hunting is often referred to as cruel and inhumane but that is not entirely true. Humans have been hunting animals as far back as humans have existed. Hunting is our core for survival, we hunt for food and other basics we need. How do you think our ancestors got their food? They would hunt for it, as simple as that. People have acknowledged that hunting is a part of history but in modern society we have merely crafted it into a sport and all of a sudden it is cruel. How do you think fancy restaurants will get their meats that aren’t necessarily farmed? They would hunt for it, deer meat, crocodile meat, and others are all delicacies of other races. Seeing that Australia is one of the world’s most multicultural nations how are we meant to supply food for those people without hunting for it. Getting rid of sports like hunting is simply unrealistic because we can’t just stop thousands of years of tradition from ourselves and simply ignore it because we “think” it is wrong.
Animals should always be treated humanely and when domesticated, they should be fed well and have their medical needs met by a veterinarian. This said there are instances when I feel that it is perfectly alright to use animals for sport. Race horses have been bred to race and usually, except in rare cases, are cared for better than some people are. Also, hunting, when done properly by abiding by all of the game laws, provides a source of food. Hunting is also a valuable game management tool in managing over-population of some species so that the remaining animals will have enough food to be healthy.
i feel that animals have the right to race, or perform any other task including sports, as long as it doesn't harm the animal. For example, greyhound racing is fine, however dog fighting is cruel and mean, resulting in the death on an animal. I think that my statements are right, and people should listen to them or i kill u
I believe that animals should be used for entertainment and sports. But I only agree to this if the owner is treating the animal right. Sometimes the owner takes it too far and harms the animal during this "entertainment" process. This is obviously wrong! I actually work with my dog in agility training, but when he gets tired he gets tired, leave it at that. I'm not going to make him do what he doesn't want to do. So if you are harming your animal then I think it is wrong. When your not harming your animal than I think it is perfectly fine. If only animals could talk. Then they could tell us what they think, ha ha. I also think that participating in a sport with your animal can cause a bonding relationship. And to me, that's definitely NOT a bad thing. When it comes to sports and entertainment with animals I always think of the phrase "Treat others like you would want to be treated." It counts with animals, too.
It is no problem for animals to do sports if that sport does not cause any physical harm to them. For those which cause physical harm to animals, regulations should be set in order to let people know how serious the animals are injured. Using animals to do sports and entertainment actually is creating job opportunities for animal-trainers and increases the audience-entry fee for the circus, since animal-done sports is entertaining in general.
Cockfighting or dog fighting should be outlawed, as such events may end with the death of an animal. But having animals race or jump or fly is in line with their natural calling, so why in the world not? Of course it goes without saying that any training that would accompany such sport or entertainment must be humane, but that goes for human athletes as well.
Horse racing is dangerous for horses and rider alike but even with all the possibility of hurting someone or an animal horses they were made to run. They are domesticated and have been properly trained to run these races so they have the right to race. Even through the dangers they have the right. A wild horse could be racing with others and have a dangerous accident, it happens all the time weather its on the track or in the wild.
People have animals as pets and keep them at home all the time and without us they would not survive. To keep the animal as a pet for entertainment is fine. The time when it becomes controversial is when you use them for other than a pet. Is it okay to race animals for our entertainment; the answer is yes. We keep the animal in good condition - feed, water, and groom it - and the animals are breed for racing because it's in their blood. Maybe it's controversial but the idea of us caring for the animal, keeping it healthy and making sure it passes inspections, makes it okay for us to use animals for sport and entertainment.
I don't agree with racing horses to death but some horses love to run. A lot of horses love to jump because it's what they were breed to do. I don't agree with hurting them or sending them to slaughter after there done just because they aren't good for it anymore. You can't take away what they were born to do it's not fair to them. I do think you should be safe with your riding and keep your animals in good condition though. Look at Secretariat he was one of the greatest racers of all time and he lived happy for the rest of his life, but then look at the horses that just don't have the heart and they get sent to slaughter.
These animals were put on this earth for their purposes. many of those animals have been bred for their skills. Most animals you see are happy to obey their owner, and love what they do. Why stop them from doing it because some people misjudge.
Animals can and should be used for all different purposes. Entertainment should be one of them. As long as the entertainment can in no way harm the animal, there really isn't anything wrong (legally, or morally) with doing so. We as humans were given dominion over the animals, so they are ours to use. But we must use them responsibly, and never cruelly.
Racing these animals in sports can give them and their owners time to be healthy and fit. Participating in these sports can really bring the animal and the owner together. We humans can enjoy our sports so why can't our animals? Sporting can be fun and good for the body for both the owner and the animal.
Using animals for sport and entertainment is a good thing.... But only when the animal isn't being mistreated. Like dogs for instance, people love fighting dogs, that's animal cruelty, but jumping horses isn't because some horses are made for jumping. Racing horses to the death is animal cruelty as well but some horses love and was born to run. So using animals for sports is okay but with restrictions.
The people that train the animals for sport care for the animals and are passionate about animals. animal cruelty is not a fear because the want the animal to acheive therefore keeping it healthy and the government has laws against animal cruelty. animals in sport is also entertaining
I believe animals should be free and not used for anything other than love! I think that using animals for entertainment is wrong! Animals should be able to live in their natural habitat! Animals are usually abused through this "entertainment" process! Animals need love and freedom! They were made to be cared for! Not abused!
Rebuttal- not many animals die from sports
This is not true. First of all, racing companies need to get their animals from SOMEWHERE. So, they breed them. In America alone, 50,000 puppies are bred, around 6000 in Australia, and 30,000 more in other countries. Of these, only 30% are chosen to be raced. And what happens to the other ones? Well, if they don’t get adopted, they are shot. And most of them ARE shot. People just don’t adopt 200 puppies each every year. They same thing applies to horses.
And the rates for horse adoption is even lower, because one horse can cost about $20 000. But life for the ones that ARE chosen to race isn’t any better. Other than just the competing dogs, hundreds of thousands of rabbits, guinea pigs and rats are used as LIVE bait to train the dogs, meaning that the rabbit is tied onto a tree or something, and is brutally ripped to pieces by the ferocious dogs. The dogs that aren’t vicious by nature, or after training, are starved until they have no choice but to go after the rabbits.
And even if the dogs successfully bring in money for the trainers, after 3-4 years of competing, they get older, and slower. They’ve only lived a quarter of their life, but they are either shot, or sent to the pound, From there, if not adopted, they are put down. In Australia alone, 4800 dogs are sent to the pound after their career is over. And as I said before, not a lot of people want to adopt ferocious big dogs with lightning speed and jaws the size of your head. And that’s not all. Around 800 horses die in America alone on the race track. Imagine how many die as foals, and how many are killed after and during their career? A whopping grand total of around 5000 horses. They start training at around 2 years of age, when their bodies are under developed and hence more vulnerable to life-threatening injuries. To top that, the get more injured during the races. Trainers use painkillers like Lasix and Bute. These painkillers don’t heal the problem, they only numb it. And so, the horse’s injuries get worse and worse, until they can’t even walk. Then, they are sent to the slaughter houses in tiny cages, in unfit trailers, without even the comfort of painkillers. This cruelty happens LEGALLY in over 15 countries.
As a higher functioning species we have the responsibility to protect other animals not explot them.
animals have lifes just like us so what if the picked up a gun or something and shot you who cares if it's fun or what not they have familys just like you and everyone esle and so nothing give you the right to be mean to anythink or anyone so would you do this to a human? no so why would you do it to animals
How would of you liked if you were one of the surviving siblings after the rest of your brothers or sisters weren't thought of as worthy so they were killed, then you're stuck in a kennel for most of your time if your not running and your taught that if you don't win then they'll basically disown you that's dog racing right there in black and white.
Animals cannot convey their consent in the same way that we can. They were not meant to be used as entertainment for our pleasure, or be subjected to mistreatment. Things like racing and fighting are inhumane and cruel. The animals are raced until they can't anymore, and then euthanized. (unless things like greyhound rescues are in place) but even if they get out of the industry, that kind of trauma doesn't just disappear. Humans can go into counseling and actually talk about their issues and resolve them. The animals are put into a human construct where they are scared, confused, hungry and overworked. It doesn't seem right.
I see no reason that animals should be used as objects of sport and entertainment. Bullfighting, for example, is a cruel and foul sport that basically tortures an animal. These animals have no choice in the matter, and I am sure the majority of them, given the option, would prefer to not partake in such cruel and harmful activities.
All of these sports and circuses abuse the animals with whips and starve them to look like they want them to. Animals are innocent they shouldn't be treated like they are and abused. In bull fighting they literally killed the animals after they are done with them. When animals don't win races and do not succeed as much as the owner or trainer wants them to. They send them to smoke houses and the animals die.
animals of every species is smaller population than humans, and because weve got a bigger population there's lots of different people and because of that people have had looked at life with different ideas very differently changed the world and because of so many different people weve slowly but quickly evolved and were at the top of the food chain and weve controlled these 'animals'[even though sometimes humans act like animals] and ridden on, made to fight, or made to run. I'm saying that is where is their say. If the dogs, horses, or birds were smarter and above us in the food chain how would you like to be ridden and whipped, shot in the arm and left to die painfully and slowly, or made to run and shocked, you wouldn't like it would you.
amazing animals such as horses and dogs (who are known as ‘man’s best friend’) that help us in many ways are among the main victims of exploitation in human sporting activities. The main purpose of horse & dog racing is for us to gamble. The health and welfare of these animals while racing are a secondary concern to people. The eager jockeys take good care of their horses before the race. But what they do during the race is totally different. Even though racing regulations exist, they do nothing to curb the cruelty inflicted on these animals. Jockeys are allowed to whip their horses in an effort to make the horse run faster. But all they do to these poor horses is make them feel scared and pained. This is what leads to make them run faster. It is a natural instinct. As for the conditions the animals are kept in, these may be good for the top dogs and horses, but in the main conditions are poor, and once the animals cease to win races they are likely to be neglected, abandoned, or slaughtered. Horses are also forced to take part in the dangerous contact sport of polo in which collisions and a hard, fast-moving puck pose serious danger to the animals who, unlike their riders, have no choice in whether they take part. All I am saying is.. before you do something cruel to animal.. put yourself in that animals shoes and imagine what it feels like to be that animal when it is being assaulted in any way.
Animals usually become a part of a persons family. That means that they aren't just something that you can say oh well to when it comes to them getting hurt. When you abuse animals they start to turn on you. For example, if you keep using dogs as something just to sell your product then they aren't going to know love and compassion meaning that they will just eventually become sickly. All animals need love to survive. Now some people may say oh no that's not true. When actually it is very true. Animals that don't have love or like a kid without parents. They have no idea how to take care of themselves. Next time you see an animal on TV remember that.
There have been many debates on if animals should be used as object of sports and entertainment. Many people thought that yes they should use animals for entertainment. But I think that no; animals have the same rights as we do. Why not leave them alone? If you only think it like this, that if the animals used us as the source of entertainment how would we feel. What we are doing can cause the animals to drop tears and feel angry. The thought of using animals as entertainment is like venom, it spreads the thought of using animals for our daily needs. But every day millions of animals die because of our small needs. The usage of animals throughout history had lessened. Now a day people don’t use horses to pull things like they used to do. They don’t take animals to war. They don’t use the animals to pull the plow.
As we have our freedom to enjoy our lives, animals also must be left alone, as far as possible, to lead their natural lives, without any human interference.
The training procedures to make animals capable to perform in sports or as entertainers can often be termed as inhumane. Just because they are animals, we've no right to treat them without any compassion or kindness.
Today, science and technology have given us wide options to choose from in both sports and entertainment. Hence, as intelligent creatures, we must leave animals on their own to enjoy their life in their natural habitats. Though less fortunate, let them also be happy and enjoy their life to the fullest.
Animals are not toys. You can't just push them around and do whatever with them. Animals that are used as entertainment are rarely taken care of properly. Most people who use them only care about the money the animal will bring in. They don't care for the animal itself. They don't properly feed, groom, or water the animal. It should be illegal for animals to be used as entertainment. What happens if one of those tigers in Thailand bites a child? What happens if any other neglected, abused, mis-cared-for animal turns on the horrible people who are exploiting them for money? They get killed! That's not right to kill an animal for following its natural instincts. I think that if an animal hurts someone because it's being forced to do things it doesn't want to, it shouldn't be hurt. It should be released back into the wild. Because it's not the animals fault; it's the humans fault for taking it out of its natural habitat just to use it in horrible ways for money.
First, animals are not dead objects. They are lives. Using them in sports and entertainment is the same with using humans as objects of sports and entertainment.
Second, animals are always being abused by humans. The most significant example is the use of animals in various circuses. According to a US research, many of the famous circuses in the world had been discovered that the trainers abused and exploited animals. In 2012, a circus called Barnum and Bailey Circus had been fined for 270,000 USD because investigators discovered that the trainers in the circus abused animals by using bull hooks. This can already tell how serious the problem is.
I have 5 problems with animal sports. 1. The animals that are used in sports get drugged to make them go faster for longer. 2. Sport is painful for the animals- they get whipped during a horse race, they are trained for hours per day! 3. The animals are being put into involuntary situations, they do not get the choice on what they do and how they are trained. 4. Sport animals are being seen as material possessions not as beings. There is no value seen in their lives, even though there should be. They feel the pain of sport. Did you know that 7,600 young greyhound puppies were killed in 2000 because they were not deemed fast enough to race? 5. Most animal sports are just pointless. Greyhounds are being trained to run after a mechanical rabbit on a pole. If that does not sound ridiculous to you, what does?
animals have emotions too, they can be scared and terrified while people are trying to hunt them for fun. Animals also have feelings and they feel it when they the hit or shot or something else that harms them. before you do something to an animal just think, would i want an animal to do this to me?
Animals are captured everyday and forced to do tricks or the animal is most likely to be abused like whipping the animal. The person holds food over their heads while they have to jump and catch and the person pulls it up with a thread.
It's sick to think that someone would enjoy the pleasure of animals fighting, or being forced into something. Animals have feelings just like humans. They are innocent and should not be forced to do something harmful and unsafe. Would you but a 3 year old child in a ring fight or get hurt for the sake of someone's sick pleasure? No. So animals shouldn't be. They need love. Not pain.
Animals should not be used for the pleasure of humans. They feel lonely, pain, and fear just like we do. They have complex social structures that are broken when we take them from their natural habitats. Forcing animals to perform unnatural sports for the gambling pleasures of humans is wrong. We need to stop this cruel practice and start acting like decent humans. They are our family.
No. Animals should not be used for sport and entertainment because when you just use a living thing like that, you are annoying them. Imagine you carrying a heavy peson in a race. That would be tiring! Well thats what you are doing to horses for an example. Think about it.
Every animal has feelings and if they could speak I am sure they would be arguing by now!
Just think how would you like it? Sometimes if they have families they might be dragged away from them even though they don't want to. Lots of animals are free so let them be. Give them a life that you would want!
Animals are just as human as we are. They have feelings and act on those feelings. Using animals for entertainment like dog fights is just cruel. We should not abuse these animals just because we are superior to them because they cannot talk, so we have to talk for them. Just like humans do not want to be forced to fight one another, animals do not want to be forced to the do the same thing.
Animals are not toys. You can't just push them around and do whatever you want with them. Animals that are used as entertainment are rarely taken care of properly. Most people only care about the money the animal will bring in. They don't care for the animal itself. They don't properly feed, groom, or water the animal. It should be illegal for animals to be used as entertainment. What happens if one of those tigers in Thailand bites a child? What happens if any other abused animal turns on the people exploiting it for money? They get killed. It is not right to kill an animal for following its natural instincts. I think that if an animal hurts someone because it's being forced to do things it doesn't want to, it shouldn't be hurt. It should be released back into the wild. It's not the animals fault; it's the humans fault for taking the animal out of its natural habitat and exploiting it.
Using animals in any way that may hurt them for pleasure is simply unacceptable and inhumane. As if there are not enough things to amuse people, in this day and age, exploiting animals for fun is just wrong.
The animals involved in sports and entertainment are not properly taken care of. They are not fed properly, not groomed properly, and not cared for properly. Most people involved in animal sports only care for the money that the animal will bring in, not for the animal itself. Also, if the animal doesn't cooperate because it doesn't want to, they are usually killed. And that's not fair! It's not fair to the animal to lose its life because some idiot didn't like how the animal acts. It's cruel, and stupid, and my personal opinion is that anyone who does that, who kills animals for no real reason; who doesn't properly take care of the animal, should be arrested and sentenced to many years in jail. Animals have rights, too. And they don't have to do something they don't want to. You wouldn't like it if someone was forcing you to do something you don't want to do. And if you don't do it, they starve or even killed you, because they don't like that you resisted. I hate people like this. But a lot of people disagree with me. I'm just happy that there are more people who do agree with me, and who take the livelihood of the animal into account.
killing animals has an effect on differetn people, such as your own grandparents, if they can not take the fact that you are killing animals, how does that make you feel? yes you wouldnt want to do it, so why think about it?animals have this kind of similarity with us- humans die slowly and peacefully sometimes in pain, in the same way when you kill an animal they die slowly but not peacefully because you caused them to suffer death, like us they want a natural death so why dont you let that happen and lets spark that change!!all we need to give is love!
It's been illegal to treat humans this way for centuries. There is no point. Animals raised as livestock are a food supply - they are killed as a food source and there is justification behind it. Animals used simply for entertainment often suffer worse conditions, and it's a true waste of life. In the Colosseum, this form of abusive entertainment involved people. It was soon declared inhumane. It's disgusting to treat animals this way, especially because nothing is done to ensure that their deaths are quick or painless. In fact, they generally experience an immense amount of pain.
It may cause the animals to feel sad. Us humans would not appreciate the fact that we have to be used for entertainment! So why should we do it to the animals? It's a disgrace!!! It will cause the animals PAIN!!! That is certainly why I don't support it!
endangered and exotic animals are being used for our entertainment.nature did not intend animals to ride bicycles or jump through hoops of fire.animals have no say in what they want to do.humans can decided to do sports, or join the circus and entertain.but why should we force an elephant to stand on a ball? its cruel.animals are not inferior to humans.we are the animals.
Rebuttal- not many animals die from sports. This is not true. First of all, racing companies need to get their animals from SOMEWHERE. So, they breed them. People lose track of whats living and has rights in this world. Every living thing should have rights whether its a dog, cat, horse, fish, or even a tree. We were all put on this earth to live free and have are voices heard. Well who is listening to these other animals. Horses were put on this earth to roam the green grassy plains not roam the sandy/muddy circled track for peoples entertainment. This is why were lose so many animals they are not in their natural state.
I'm a vegetarian, so I probably don't need to state any more than that, but greyhound racing, fox hunting and other pursuits result in cruel and inhumane handling of the animals involved. Just because human beings learned to use tools and are bigger than some of these animals, doesn't give us the right to use them like objects - I don't think you would force a mountain lion to prance around for your pleasure. One only needs to look at the horribly fatal killer whale accident in Seaworld or request info from an animal charity to see how dangerous these practices are for both humans and animals. Just think how horrifying it would be to see a family pet being chained by the neck and forced to dance like a wild bear in Turkey, or if it was someone's child. Animals deserve to be treated with respect.
Because they have a right to do what they want and not be taught to do funny things. They shouldn't be pushed around to do things and if they don't, get wiped or killed. How is an animal going to learn by you making them do things. They might even turn on you and eat you, do you want that? Stop the entertainment now.
Animals should be treated with the same rights as human beings are. Animals are not a form of entertainment , we have many other things that we could be doing instead of this . I love animals , and when i see a miss treated one it makes my heart sink , what has the world came too? is it really okay for us to miss treat animals , but its not okay to mistreat humans? It's okay to shoot a bear in the head for "fun" but when you shoot a person in the head your looking at some pretty serious jail time. Stop animal cruelty .
It is infuriating to see animals that are already on the endangered species list being exploited to sell cars, insurance, whatever. The lunacy of using these precious animals for capital gain demonstrates the hideous greed we have come to accept as normal. Elephants, my God, already poached into oblivion for their ILLEGAL ivory, are being used on TV to sell houses. Monkeys are showing up on almost every sitcom in the US. Millions are in agony behind bars being used for vivisection and other horrific Dr. Mengela type experiments. My God (again). Animals deserve to be protected. Wilderness needs to be set aside and those animals need to be nurtured - provided with safe expanses and freedom. Its a no-brainer. Get EVERY animal off of TV and put them where they deserve to be. To the person who said that horses are fine to use for racing, has she checked the crippling effect that racing actually has on their biology and health? Has she checked with the horses (kidding, but not really) to ask them if this was the life they wanted to lead? Animals should have rights, they should be given the same basic rights that allegedly we assume for people -- Life, liberty and happiness. http://www.aldf.org
If we use animals for events such as horse racing then do the horses have an input? No, they just run so they are not whipped more than they already are! It is animal cruelty and that's that! And in events such as bears dancing in circuses or on the streets they are kept in awful conditions and are tied down with chains.
If an individual wants to participate in a sport, he has the ability to convey that information. There is no way to get consent from an animal that it is willing to be subjected to mistreatment and, therefore, it is not permissible to use them for our entertainment, where they might be harmed.
It is not natural for animals to perform in these ways. Many 'trainers' mistreat their animals extremely badly just to get a win, all most care about is the money. The living conditions of these animals are poor and man never even know what it is like to be loved and how to live in a normal household. And plus what about what happens after they're no longer 'useful' to their owners? It's just plain cruel and unjustified. Put a stop to the 'entertainment' coming from these beautiful creatures, if they had a voice they would speak but because they don't we need to do the speaking for them! :)
I think a good test of whether using an animal for sport or entertainment is appropriate would be to test the principle on a human first. If you don't want to get in a ring and fight to the death, then don't subject a dog or rooster to the same fate. If you wouldn't want to spend your life in a pen performing tricks for paying crowds, why would a dolphin?
Animals deserve to be loved and cared for instead of just messing with their heads making them think that you care when you are using them to make yourself feel better. I don't feel pleased if any body this to any typ[e of animal but this is just outrageous to use animals for your pleasure .
I think animals should be treated much better. I mean like in space travel, we killed hundreds of animals just in that! And we don't have to bring animals into human sports. And many animals are sometimes abused in their "training" - it's just insane. Animals have feeling too, and we should all start to consider them as REAL feelings, not just "oh, whatever, the animals don't know what they're feeling."
I love animals, they are my passion. Every chance I get I donate money to many charities and shelters. There are many animals who need our help in keeping them healthy and in tip top shape. No one should feel any kind of excitement from hunting animals, fighting dogs/horses, races, and circus's. This needs to stop now! Animals want to be treated with love and respect just like us, so let's start doing just that!
I believe that animals have basic rights such as not being killed unless asked to. If we are to kill them for food, it should at least be in a humane way. I feel as though the population of animals all around the world is decreasing everyday, Hunting them is NOT helping. Using animals for sport is injuring them. You're suffocating the poor animals, think before you do. Please stop hunting, its inhumane and i hate it and im sure all the other animal lovers who actually care would agree too. -.- Thank you.
I think animals should be respected and enjoyed. They are not suppose to be used to entertain us or used in sports. I believe animals should be free. People who use pit bulls for fighting would be a good example. If the animals are injured during the process, it is wrong in my opinion.
I think it is wrong to use an animal till its hearts burst or legs break . I do ride "pleasure" horses. My horse is not worked hard. He is fed and trained. My dogs are rescues form shelters.I know hard it is to "put an animal down." I spent most of my life in my grandparent's vet clinic, I have seen what "sports animals" have gone through. I have seen cart horses with shafts sticking out of the legs or abdomen. I may only be 13 but I have seen a lot of pain and death of animals.
If we use animals for events such as horse racing then do the horses have an input? No, they just run so they are not whipped more than they already are! It is animal cruelty and that's that! And in events such as bears dancing in circuses or on the streets they are kept in awful conditions and are tied down with chains.
I don't mind animals being used in sports, as long as the animal is respected and treated well.
Killing animals for sport is another issue. I have watched countless animals die at the hands of hunters, and it hurts me to watch every time. For instance, countless bears die each month at the hands of hunters and poachers alike. Now, I am not a pro earth pro life koom by yah kinda guy, I LOVE HUNTING! Killing for vanity and trophies is just plain wrong. Entire species have gone extinct all because of vanity.
Animal hunting industries along with racing industries have a lot of money put into them by people around the world. Regardless if the money is put in to assist with animal costs, or just to place a bet, money is pumping day by day. Now, you may think that stopping cruel animal related sports would hugely effect the economy, in that a lot of money would be lost, although when looking at this theory in depth, you will find that it doesn't go very far. The prize money for winning a bet placed on a favorite horse can go up to millions, and the prize money generally accumulates from people betting and depositing money into the industry with each bet that they make. Now, if the sport didn't exist, then gambling wouldn't be one of Australia's prominent addictions, and it would lead to financial comfort for many. Gambling is a huge issue, and one that can easily be triggered by one rather cruel race.
Things such as dog shows are not harmful to your pets, and most people that are involved in these types of things take great care of and love their animals. When it becomes wrong is when you start creating entertainment that is designed to harm or endanger the lives of animals. We should not any more want to harm or kill animals on purpose than we should other people.
We need to strike a balance between human pleasure and animal welfare. The proposition's point of view is much too unbalanced. Putting the animal welfare case at its strongest, we should ban all sports in which animals are treated cruelly, or are at high risk of injury or death. None of the sports mentioned by the proposition here fall into that category. Anyone who works in horse or dog racing will tell you that it is in their interest to ensure that the animals are healthy and happy, or else they will not perform well. They will also tell you that most of these animals enjoy racing and enjoy winning. As for polo, horses are rarely injured, the risk of injury is acceptably low.
I believe that animals should be treated with respect and this should enable them to have equal rights to humans. What makes humans so superior? Nothing. Nothing gives humans the right to treat animals as objects or trophies. And tradition is NOT an excuse for any type of animal cruelty.
