Should anyone who wants a gun be able to purchase/own one?

  • Yes and No...

It's written in the Constitution as one of our rights and it shouldn't be taken away...But we all know that there are people who are mentally unstable or shouldn't be allowed such weapons. Those should be the ones not allowed to have them, not everyone. The government shouldn't be able to change something that has bonded our country, but should advise and correct it. If this bill is approved then what is the purpose of The Constitution? It will no longer protect us and that enables them to start taking away our other rights. Just think about it.

  • No, there should be checks.

Not every person is mentally stable or socially responsible enough to own a gun. No one wants a certified and heavily medicated schizophrenic to be armed, for example. There definitely need to be checks and certifications available to weed out the more glaring safety issues when it comes to gun ownership.

  • Everyone cannot handle the responsibility

As an American, it is our "right" to bear arms. But, I do believe when the founding fathers wrote this law, they did not intend for what they law has become. No longer do people own guns to hunt or protect their land, but rather to hurt one another. If anyone could get their hands on a gun, imagine what they might do if they go off in a fit of rage.

  • No, certain people should be denied firearms.

Yes, the 2nd amendment to the constitution grants American citizens the right to bear arms. However, all of these rights are subject to the safety and well being of the rest of society. If certain people owning firearms diminishes the ability of the American people to pursue happiness, then absolutely we need to control who owns firearms, and what kinds of firearms can be owned.
