Should Australia increase its foreign aid budget?

  • Yes we should

Foreign aid should be increased because Australia is not in debt and should help others in need, as we are so called the 'lucky country'. Obesity and homelessness has sky-rocketed in the past few decades and people just can't afford simple medicines and vital things for living such as shelter and food.

  • It is important to our future that we increase foreign aid

Australia is not the United States, we are not it a large amount of debt.
When a fractional amount of our GDP is spent on foreign aid, increasing it will provide a massive boost to our economy.
Australia produces little to none of our household goods, we rely on foreign trade. By increasing foreign aid, we boost sovereign ties and we will be economically helped in the future.

  • Yes we most certainly should.

Do you know how big our foreign aid budget actually is? LESS THAN .05% of our total budget. It ridiculous to think that one of the worlds leading economies per capita (according to several studies) will seriously benefit from cutting back such a small amount. Most of the world, including countries worse off than us, have committed to increasing their foreign aid spending to help those far less fortunate than us. People are dying of malnutrition, disease and war, child mortality rates are high, lack of education is high and mistreatment of women is high in third world nations and MUST be addressed. Any argument against us increasing aid at the moment is one born of selfishness or ignorance.

  • No, Australia already helps a lot.

No, Australia should not increase its foreign aid budget, because Australia already helps other countries a great deal. Australia has suffered a great deal in the economic downturn. Even so, Australia already provides aid to much of the Pacific area. Australia is a very generous country as it is, and they should not feel obligated to do more.

  • Australian is one of the worlds best aid

Our aid is better then most other aid, we get things done unlike most others, the aid money is stolen by corrupt ppl in power. If we just use the current aid money better and moniter where and how its being used we can still benefit just as much as we have previously doing, maybe even better

  • Start Helping Australians

We seriously need to stop worrying about other parts of the world and begin working on our own Country. Maybe we should start by getting a government that knows how to lead a country because currently I see Australia is not doing well. Foreign aid should not increase, the money should be used on Australians.

  • Focus on Own People

Australia, like the United States, should focus on its own people and its own issues. Instead of increasing its foreign aid budget, help Australians and aboriginals at home first. Feed the hungry and house the homeless in your own backyard first before you try to save the rest of the world. In lean economic times, Australia needs to take care of its own citizens first.
