Should background checks be required for people to purchase ammunition?

  • Background Checks Should Be Required

Yes, I do believe that background checks should be required in order to buy ammunition. They should be a requirement when buying or using anything that is gun related. We cannot have any and everyone buying bullets because they could get in the hands of the wrong person, and that could lead to some terrible things.

  • Yes, they should be

I don't see how this is open to debate. If you want a bunch of things to shoot at things, there should be checks to help ensure those things aren't other people. Background checks don't eliminate the tragedies we see all too often, but they help and there's no argument to be made otherwise.

  • Yes, there should be.

If you are buying the ammunition for a legitimate reason, there should be no reason not to submit to a background check. There should also be limits on how much ammunition you can buy in a month, and you should have to show I.D. every time you make an ammunition purchase.

  • Of course they should.

Obviously people who can't purchase guns legally should be prevented from purchasing ammo. This is a no brainer. Don't want to inconvenience dealers and lawful gun owners? Give people an ID number when they legally pass a background check that can be used to purchasing ammunition with just a photo ID. Simple as that.

  • For Children's Sake

People are always hurting each other. The world is already cruel and mean. Think about the children. They are going to grow up thinking that guns are used for protection, which that's what they should be used for. Everybody has their own opinion, and I think that people should have to take a background check. Like others said above, nobody wants guns in the wrong hands. I'm not for or against guns, I just want everyone to be safe and responsible. Guns are here to protect and kill, not to be used as toys and to heal people.

  • Background checks for all

Lethal weapons can fall into the wrong hands and having checks on who buys bullets is a further barrier to that person committing violence. Any person who wants to purchase ammunition is doing it for only one reason. So they can fire it through a gun. If they are doing so in a legal manner having a check to say that they are not a criminal or deranged is a further safety step which no person would have a problem with if they had nothing to hide.

  • Everything needs to be regulated concerning guns.

There have been numerous shootings in the past year—not to discount the shootings in the past, but the more recent shootings have been in places that you would ordinarily believe are safe: movie theaters, primary schools, and shopping malls. Families have lost children because they have not properly secured guns. Guns are not being regulated and sold as weapons, but as recreational tools. On a shopping trip for eggs at Wal-Mart, one could also pick up a gun in the sporting isle. We have become too sloppy as a country, and innocent people are suffering.

  • It is an unnecessary bureaucratic move

It is like we already have laws to revoke driver license who are convicted on DUI. Now let's add a low such that you need a background check of your DUI record before purchasing any gasoline. Do any one think it will do any thing other than create a large bureaucracy just to annoy people without probable cause?

  • If you own a firearm, you've already completed a background check

To feed the firearm with ammunition legally, you must have submitted to a background check. A background check on ammo would serve no other purpose than to make it harder for law abiding citizens to defend themselves, partake in their hobbies etc. Criminals who acquire fire arms illegally will still find ways to acquire ammunition.

  • Whats the point? Criminals don't even need it

Archie Bunker put it best when he bought a gun and Gloria asked him "Daddy, did you know that there were over seven hundred gun related deaths last year" to which he replied " Well little girl, would you feel better if they were all pushed out a window?" If someone wants to kill a group of people they don't need a gun or ammo, jihadist make bombs and it cost them a few bucks each. But for my argument I'd say enforce the death penalty for serious criminals, murderers, rapist and make drunk driving a felony with prison time and the killings would go down in no time

  • Government is corrupt to the core.

Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Lenin, Obama all support gun control laws. These people want to disarm you so they can rape and abuse you. They feed off your goodness. THey like to hurt little kids and they will enjoy what they do to you after they get your precious little guns.

  • Sheeple will be Sheeple

If you actually believe that any new gun law will prevent real criminals from acquiring guns, ammo, etc. and using them for what criminals do best: commit crimes... Then you're Sheeple, plain and simple.

Leave the Amendments of our Constitution alone. There are those who want to take or seriously infringe the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, etc.

To let them infringe on any, is yet another step towards removing/infringing upon the rest.

The 2nd Amendment is the teeth that helps protect the others.

Yet some people in power and even many without power, are afraid of those teeth and falsely believe they will somehow "sleep better" if they remove those teeth or at least muzzle it.

The best way for them to do this is to take individual negative use of the 2nd Amendment and use it to infringe it across the board for everyone.

Short-sighted, reactionary, foolish, and ultimately ineffective against the criminals they wish to stop.

  • Free the Ammo Agenda

Ammo is necessary for shooting. Make it illegal and criminals will find their own supply. If the supply is low, then they will mastermind their way into explosives and the like. It will be like bringing a knife tona gun fight -- pun intended. So stop the senseless fight against the average citizen and grow up.

  • Oh good grief people.

Look, if someone passes a background check to buy a gun, then there's no reason they wouldn't pass another one to buy ammo, so it's completely unnecessary, not mentioning the amount of money it would take to run it. If they have a gun they have a right to buy the ammo. Unless they're a criminal. But since when does a criminal buy their own ammo?

  • A purposeless burden on the law-abiding

The only people who are going to go through with this are law abiding citizens. Criminals will simply buy their ammunition from black market sources, which for a little metal tube of gunpowder, are common. Thus, it does not stop criminals and is merely another line of bureaucratic red tape in front of the legal citizen to get to the second amendment right. If this passes, crime is going to skyrocket.

  • Would be redundant and burden law abiding citizens.

Law abiding gun owners would have to undergo unnecessary background checks further burdening our Department of Justice background check process. The price of ammo would increase for unnecessary reasons. Statistically speaking most guns used in a crime are or have been bought legally. Adding yet another barrier for legal gun owners is not the solution.
