  • Cannabis is great

Substances such as tobacco and alcohol are legal and cannabis isn't. Tobacco causes about 6 million deaths annually whereas there has never been a cannabis caused death ever. Furthermore there is no actual reason for keeping the substance illegal. The US government publicised negative effects of the drug and these claims have been proved wrong.

  • Cannabis should be legalized in the United Kingdom.

Cannabis should be legalized in the United Kingdom. When it becomes legal, that will allow many people to do it out in the open and freely, and instead of the police arresting cannabis users, they can focus on more violent offenders instead of people who are just trying to get high.

  • Cannabis should be legalised

I am not a part of the UK but in the US we are beginning to see more states approve the growing of cannabis for personal use (not just medicinal) and the effects of smoking weed are not as grand as a person who is drunk. I have never smoked weed before but when people do smoke weed they tend to sit in one spot and admire the hallucinations that are presented to them. They become harmless people and present no clear danger to others around them. Drinking causes a lot of damage, both physically and mentally and that is allowed everywhere in the globe. To me, something that may not cause too much harm (except health wise which is the decision of the individual) it shouldn't be outlawed. Therefore the UK should attempt to legalize it and find ways to profit from it.

  • Some rebuttal from the No argument

Some said that dealers charge high prices and result in homelessness etc. that is one of the main arguments for legalisation! If the control is taken away from the dealers they can no longer extort etc and use their ill gotten tax free gains for further crime. ISIS for example are funded by criminal sources which include skunk dealers. Also, the argument about the lung cancer and disease it can cause, unfortunately you are very correct. However most medicinal users use it in oil pill or food form (space cake). This means only the recreational users who smoke it (although vaping has become a safer alternative which still delivers THC). The tax gains would be great not only the direct tax such as that on tobacco but the strain on the prison service would be reduced because less users or small time dealers would be in prison. The entire industry would also be under government control and age limits would be enforced (admittedly you can never expect this to work completely as can be seen from underage drinking and smoking) but it would reduce it. Tourism from prohibition countries may also bring money to the ecchequer although this might not be legal as there are many problems with cannabis tourism which countries like the Netherlands suffer with. As always there are disadvantages but with the amount of weed already grown in the uk and circulated on the streets these problems are already there and many could be reduced by legalisation such as crime.
