Should certain books be banned from schools and classrooms?

  • Think about it some book should be banned from school libraries

Some books at school libraries have bad word in them and when a student see a bad word they will won't to read it even though they dont like to read more than they want to read it because the book has words that kids probably never heard before because their parents might not use bad word

  • Certain Books Unsuitable for School

Yes, certain books should be banned from schools and classrooms. Highly sexualized books, for example "50 Shades of Grey", do not have a place in the classroom as their themes are for an age level beyond what the classroom is to teach. Therefore, certain books should be banned from classrooms.

  • I agree that there may be some books that may be banned from schools.

While you have to be careful with what you ban. I do think that there can be some material that should not be in schools or classrooms. Obviously though you could end of taking away more that you have originally intended with banning books and certain reading materials. It can be an issue that is more isolated with individual schools.

  • Think about it

Telling someone that they can't tea something will just increase the urge to read it. Like mark twain said (and i quote) "telling someone they can't read a book is like telling a man he can't have a steak because a baby can't chew it." Its just insane and people should be able to read whatever they fancy :)

  • Violating the rights of American citizens and depriving students of their needs

Censoring what children learn in school is undermining the education system and diminishing intelligence and the aspiration and desire to learn. Never should a book be unavailable to a child who wants to learn and further their ideas and knowledge. Although, some information may not be "cookie-cutter", it is important for a student to be exposed to some things in order to form their own belief system.

  • That would just dumb down society

Banning books is never good for any reason, whether it'd be books about the KKK or Jim Crow. In order for us to increase our brain it's important that we know about these ideas -- however arrogant they might be. It's a key to preventing these things in the future.

  • Freedom of Press

Many years ago, our Founders made rights that belong to every single American citizen whatever age. One of the natural rights is the Freedom of the Press. Under the Freedom of the Press is that Micah Issitt lists "three basic rights covered under the freedom of the press: the right to publish, the right to confidentiality of sources, and the right of citizens to access the products of the press." This means legally children can read whatever they want under the constitution.
