  • Christmas is a Religious Celebration

It's all in the title. It's not like you would have to abolish the holiday itself or the value it comes with, just call it something else. Santa Claus and Christmas Elves as they exist today have nothing to do with the religions that lay claim to Christmas, which is sort of sacrilegious since it is still treated as a religious holiday. More so, it excludes anyone who isn't Christian or Pagan because of the religious grounds on which it is celebrated. It'd make much more sense in this day and age where religion is losing its influence to have a secular holiday of the same means.

  • Not everyone is Christian!

Christmas should be removed and replaced with something similar or better! Forcing atheists, jewish people, muslims etc to celebrate a christian festival is pathetic. We need to make a 'giving day' or something. I can't believe noone can see that it needs to be abolished! It may even brainwash people into becoming christian in some cases.

  • Christmas season tears families apart, gives false hope to children.

The anticipation of a magical day, is turned in to great expitations and huge let downs and disappointment when children are not happy with gifts that parent kill themselvre to get. Parents then turn on children to say they have to be happy with what they got, and the dynamic of the family is then ripped to shreds.

  • Fun and frivolity OUGHT NOT TO BE ALLOWED

I am a Puritan. Puritans do not approve of fun and frivolity of any kind. "Christmas" appears to be about fun and frivolity, and should, therefore not be allowed, especially for people in receipt of Welfare or who cannot show a right to be in this country. Furthermore, the Bible does not anywhere mention "Christmas". Everyone, except the "1%", should be made to work on 25 December

  • Yes in a way

The day should be changed so as to rid it of these pagan activities. The christmas day has been seriously and severly defiled and corrupted by turning it to a comercial event rather than a religious celebration. The catholic church needs to step up and discourage these activities once the date has been changed.

  • Entirely commercial event; devoid of its religious meaning

There is no faith in Christmas anymore. Its roots are dead which is sad because the Nativity actually gave it a purpose and essence. People are in a rush for material concerns and this I've seen has a really negative psychological impact on the way children think about this debranded festival. They regard money as an endless commodity now and you see kids on the playground bragging that they got x from x. The kind of society that Christmas is shaping is having a really harmful effect on younger generations. All the gossip even 2 months before Christmas Day is that monotonous question "what you getting for Christmas?". Kids have an image that money is necessary to fuel their desires and this is wrong. Most kids don't really care about the setting up the Christmas tree; they care what's under it. Parents are so oblivious to this.

  • You don’t need a special day to give a present to a loved one

You don’t need a special day to give a present to a loved one. You should be able to give presents as and when you want to through the year. Also I think it’s becoming far too commercialised. Xmas is far too overrated. And also shops start stocking food for Xmas far too early and adverts on a TV for Xmas are shown too early. By the time Xmas Day comes I’m sick and tired of hearing about it.

  • It should not be banned just downgraded

Christmas is tired. Why should people be forced to take holiday allocations when it's cold, dark, the pubs are crowded and the shops are shut.

As for the excuse that it gets families together, well if you need a reason like this to meet the relatives then maybe you don't like them. Otherwise you would stay in touch anyway. Also if you need to keep the TV on, showing old films etc. You won't be talking anyway.

Finally, the fact that no one has produced a Christmas song of note for many decades means we have to endure the recycling of tasteless tunes from the 70's and 80's. Let's be honest any sane person must be sick of these (except the ageing rock stars).

  • Should not be banned, just downgraded in importance.

Christmas is tired. Why force people to take the few days of work they are allocated per year when it's dark, cold, pubs are crowded and shops are shut.

As for the excuse for getting families together, well if you can't be bothered to visit your relatives at other times in the year it might be because you don't like them ?

Sitting in front of old TV shows and films hardly speaking to each other isn't going to facilitate any family bonding.

If you need anymore evidence that Christmas is dated, why has no one released a memorable Christmas song since the mid 80's ?

If we were all honest with ourselves we might concede that we are sick to death of the existing Christmas songs. Paul McCartney and Noddy Holder I'm looking at you.

  • Christmas isn't just about religion

People say they want to ban christmas because it forces unwanted religion apon them. But I am not religious and I still love christmas, it is no longer just about religion. It is about seeing your whole family, listening to christmas music, putting up lights, a tree and eating christmas food.

  • Banning Christmas may aswell want to make you ban other religious holidays

If you ban Christmas you may aswell want to ban easter and summer holidays and half term breaks. We all need a break sometime and if not then we will all brobably fall down dead in an instant unless someone shouts school and work is out!!! Then we would come back to life and be happy again.

  • Should not be banned

Firstly, Christmas should not be banned it is one of the most important parts of the Christian faith and it should be a time for giving and getting presents.

The next important reason is that it is a time for a get together to be with your family and have fun and it is also a time to relax and kick back and De-stress yourself after hard work.

  • No Don't ban Christmas

I am an atheist and do not celebrate the religious side of Christmas . For me it is about spending time with family and having a few days off from work as the year draws to a close. Also it is peoples right to celibate what they want. Muslims have their celebrations etc. Other religions do not have to celibate Christmas but I am sure they use the holiday to spend time with family and take time off.

  • No one is forcing you to celebrate anything

Gee, if we're going to abolish Christmas because it's a religious holiday, we may as well abolish Diwali, the Passover, Easter, etc. Seriously? What is this, Nazi Germany? People celebrate holidays because it means something important to them. For Christians, Christmas means the birth of who they believe to be the Lord and saviour of all the earth. That's a big deal, and who are we to disallow someone from celebrating that? Sure, secular society has turned the holiday on its head and convinced many people to believe it's about stuff, stuff and more stuff. That doesn't mean, however, that people who celebrate it because it genuinely means something important to them and who haven't subscribed to society's selfish view of the holiday should suffer.

  • To abolish Christmas is to ignore a christian's freedom of religion.

Every American has their religious beliefs and practices protected under the first amendment freedom of religion. To abolish the practice of Christmas and presumably outlaw it would be to entirely ignore the freedom of religion for christians. Such an action is deeply tyrannical, and should never be considered my American officials.

  • Should not be banned. Because it is the faith of the prople in the world around.

It should not be abolished because it is tradition, it is faith, and it is history. Christmas is great historical event and no one can change its importance. Because no one can change history. Christmas speaks about peace, love and joy. I wish let all the celebrations give such messages and make all the celebrations meaningful by itself.
