  • 5 Banned Fraternities and What They Did

Though there's some good benefits that you could obtain the experience, fraternity could be causes of serious law violations! It sometimes brake the facilities, low or peoples' lives. The organization is a group of younger people who is in the process of matured people. Here's some detail and love to hear your opinions: http://www.alphaclassmovie.com/5-banned-fraternities-and-what-they-did/

  • Taxpayers do not want frats and sororities

Both public and private universities are receiving an enormous amount of taxpayer funds through federal grants and student loans (of which many students receive). I am pretty sure taxpayers do NOT want funds going to social activities, especially ones that are racist, sexist, and dangerous. Banning fraternities and sororities will do no harm. These kids will survive and maybe even have time for something like studying! We need to get back to the basics because too many people drop out or are studying things that are not needed in the workforce.

  • Fraternity Alum says yes

I was a fraternity member in the 80s and were fortunate that nobody died. Alcohol was always available and abused. Every pledge class tries to out do the previous class so hazing escalates. Our charter has been revoked twice since 1989. The claim that Greeks make better grades is false. Pledges and members with bad grades are either kicked out or dropped from rolls. Skewing the statistics

  • Yes frat houses and sororities should be banned.

Off campus frat houses are were date rape was invented. A survey taken by college men said they didnt think it was considered rape if they had sex with an unconscious woman. Snobby rich boys and girl thought they could get away with there racist sexist and rapist behavior not anymore.

  • Yes, frats should be banned.

    1. Frats are archaic, racist and exclusive. University is supposed to broaden your mind, but frats in my Uni focused on the opposite.
    2. Eventually Unis are going to be held responsible for the deaths that occur as a result of hazing. Banning frats will remove this liability.
    3. Despite the claims of brotherhood and tradition, frats are for losers no matter how you slice it. Integration, not segregation!

  • Something I never understood in the USA

I am an immigrant and got to be educated in an European style system and never saw anything like that, that was like 40 years ago, I never understood these kids in our country joining these frats...Universities are supposed to be a place to get educated at a higher level, it is supposed to be one of the most beautiful moments of your life making Mom and Dad proud and not acting like teens anymore ....These stupid kids are not supposed to be in there, Frats need to be banned for good...University=Study

  • Fraternities are dangerous. It's time out

They should be banned because there are to many innocent lives dying. The only fraternity that should be going is everyone making positive things out of their lives and letting God lead them in the direction they should go, And helping our world become a better place for everyone as well.

  • Both Fraternities and Sororities should be banned

These groups are harmful to students in many ways. For example, students have to spend hours doing social activities, instead of studying to have a place to stay. The students in these places are mostly dumb popular people. My parents were immigrants for India, who got accepted into Carnegie Mellon. My mother tutored football players, and various other students. Some students from a sorority were dumber than me (I am only in Middle school), wore lots of expensive clothes, and thought that you get credit for walking in the door. Also, the emphasis on socializing adds parties, drugs, and alcohol. This leads to accidents and sexual assault.

  • Title IX, how they get away with it

Fraternities are known to be houses that break the law, brothers serve alcohol to members and non members who want free alcohol at any age, the promote sexy costumes at their parties and invite as many women as possible so that their brothers have a variety of women to prey on through the night. Sexual assaults. Accidents. Alcohol poisoning, no supervision, death. All of these would be prevented without frats. Title IX is supposed to be followed by all colleges who get financial aid for their students. The terms of that are to protect the students from a hostile environment, and just because it is not on campus, the college is liable and SHOULD be liable for what happens within organizations they support such as Frats! Title IX says to eliminate things that could be potential problems and threats to students especially for sexual assault. Frats apply! BAN THEM.

  • It's The BEST

It's how you start off your wild time at college. You meet a family away from family. Taking away an opportunity for thousands of students to meet each other is an injustice. The bad part is worth the time and getting to have the time of your life is well worth it.

  • The truth about greek life

1.The all fraternity and all sorority GPA is always higher than the overall College GPA at any given college. Fraternities and sororities must make certain GPA's to sustain being a member.
    2. All but 2 US presidents since 1825 have been fraternity members
    3. All 11 of the apollo astronauts were greek.
    4. As undergraduates greeks raise approximately 7 million per year for charity
    5. Most houses hold their members to higher standards. i.e. encouraging joining honors society and other groups on campus, having study hours and tutors, taking away privileges like parties to those who don't make grades, encouraging members to volunteer and setting up events to raise money and donating their time.
    6. Most members who have been kicked out of a house have been kicked out because they were inappropriate or didn't make grades. No house wants to be put on probation from one members actions.
    7. Most houses are actually dry (no alcohol)
    8. Greek houses are meant to create life long friendships and a support system to always have your back. That could be while attending college and your going through a tough time or moving to a new state so you join an alumni group to make new connections in an area you don't know.

  • No, colleges should not ban fraternities.

Fraternities are no different than any other organization, except for the fact that it's a lifelong commitment. Yes, there are hazing incidents but that is just a few bad people that make the whole group look bad. The truth is fraternities build people in to leaders, and are committed to community service and philanthropy. People think that students drink because of fraternities, when actually everyone in college (for the most part) drinks, not just fraternity members.
