Should crack cocaine and powder cocaine be treated the same under the law?

I think that crack cocaine and powder cocaine should be
treated the same under the law. Right
now, there is a discrepancy in sentencing which I believe is racially motivated. The discrepancy was 100 to 1 before, now it
is 18 to 1. Black people found with
crack still get more time than white people found with an equal amount of
    powder.

  • Crack cocaine and powder cocaine should not be treated the same under the law.

Crack cocaine is a popular street drug which is much more widely available in urban areas. There should be stricter penalties for crack compared to powder cocaine because it is more dangerous. It is more addictive because it is smoked or injected rather than snorted. Powder cocaine is not such a blight to our cities because it's not a street drug.
