Should Disney have acquired the Star Wars franchise?

  • Great business deal for Disney and consumers

The deal between Lucas and Disney was a great deal for both parties AND the consumers who love the brand itself. With Disney buying the franchise, they will be able to use their resources to expand the universe in a whole new direction. In addition to simply having more content from Disney, consumers can also rejoice in the fact that Lucas won't be able to butcher our childhoods anymore.

  • Yes. This was a great move for Disney and possibly for Lucas Films as well.

Disney is in the business of making money, so yes this was a very smart move. Is it good for the Star Wars franchise? Well, it definitely means that there will be enough capital and talent to produce more movies. Perhaps better ones than the last three that were released. Perhaps not. There were bad Star Wars movies made before the purchase (Phantom Menace anyone?) so it certainly can't hurt the franchise. Not only that, with Lucasfilm comes a ton of top tier talent that will help Disney in the production of non-Star Wars related films as well.

  • Good Move For Disney

Disney's move to acquire Star Wars is a good and very smart move. Star Wars has a very loyal cult following so matter what product they put out it will sell well regardless. Disney is also very creative so it will be interesting to see what the do with the Star Wars franchise.

  • They shouldnt have

Star wars was insanely good, detailed and awesome plot/story/etc. That many, many adults loved. Disney turned it into a childs thing when really it was very detailed and political and adults could enjoy just as much star wars. It was humiliating for the star wars franchise and for fans everywhere. A complete insult

  • Disney's Getting Too Big

First the Muppets, then Marvel and now Star Wars? Why couldn't Disney be content with Mickey Mouse, Disneyland and their adaptations of public domain fairy tales? I liked it better when there weren't all these buyouts and we had more of a choice in regards to entertainment. We have too much of our pop culture being owned by too few people. Let's break up the monopolies.
