Should Egypt draft legislation banning burqas and Islamic veils in public places?

  • In many instances, the veil is a sign of oppression

If a country needs legislation to give its women freedom, then it should go ahead and draft that legislation even at the risk of angering its religious population. Ideally, we should all be free to lead peaceful lives, but the veil is often forced upon women. Egypt needs to given its women a voice and bring them out from behind the veil.

  • No we shouldn't

  • No for obvious reasons

No. The main reason this issue has come up is because people are saying how men are forcing women to wear the burqas, even if they are against wearing them. By 'the government's banning of burqas in public places' they are forcing veiled women (whether they chose to wear the burqas or not) to remove their veils. This is a right against humans. The government would be contradicting themselves by saying that 'nobody should force women into wearing burqas, but we will ban any women who wears one'.

  • No country should take away people's rights

If a woman wants to wear a burqa or niqab they should be able too, the government should NEVER be allowed to tell anyone how to dress. Also, the largest religion in Egypt is Islam, and a bill like that would anger a lot of people, and cause a lot of problems, and considering the issues Egypt has had the past few years it's idiotic to cause even more problems.

  • No, freedom to pratice your belief should not damaged.

Although Egypt has a different culture than many other countries and laws, a person should not be told what they can and can not wear due to their religious beliefs. Banning this will only cause a rift in the country population and the government showing favoritism to a certain religion.

  • Egypt Should Allow Religions Expression

Egypt should not draft legislation banning burqas and Islamic veils in public places. Burqas and Islamic veils are religious requirements, and banning them would violate people's faith. They should be allowed in public as a sign of respect to both Egyptian citizens and those visiting the country. Banning these items could cause residents to leave and tourists not to visit.

  • Egypt Must Not Ban Anything

The real way for Egypt to move forward is to become an Islamic Caliphate in the days of the pharoahs. Banning burqas is an assault on Allah and reinforces evil. In the end, the overall opinion of god is that women should be covered. Therefore, Egypt must not become a secular state like France.
