    Today’s motion is “Junk food should be banned in Hong Kong”. We believe that the motion should not stand.

     Junk food is convenient and inexpensive for some people who are unable to prepare their own meal
     Junk food is not just food. It can provide pleasure and help people to relax. e.g. taking snacks while working hard to prepare for exams.
     Junk food can act as a social media. e.g. sharing potato chips while chatting with friends
     Some junk foods are beneficial to health.
    E.G. According to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), foods like popcorn could be helpful in reducing damage caused by spinal injury.
    E.G. A compound, Brilliant Blue G found in the dye in M&Ms may speed up recovery in spinal cord injuries
     To conclude, junk food can be good or bad, depending on how you use it.
     The key is NOT to ban it but to teach people how to choose and use it in a positive and controlled way.
     People should have the freedom to choose.
