Should former porn stars be banned from becoming teachers?

  • This is common ethics...

I agree that having sex on camera in exchange for money is technically a JOB. Yet, just as we do background checks for things such as pedophiles before we hire someone to be an authority figure in our children’s environment, due to the "judgment" that we put on them due to their past actions...by hiring them we would be giving them access to the vulnerability of children. We should for the porn industry as well. Yes it’s a free country and if they want to pursue a career choice that no employer would hire them for, esp. if we are putting children into the equation, that is up to them. There have been many cases of teachers having "relations" with students well under the legal age. No one would want this unethical influence on their children or take such risks.

  • They should be banned

Are you people serious? "Former" does not mean you can't find her videos all over the internet.

How is a teacher supposed to do their job if none of their students can take them seriously? Once you know what your teacher looks like and sounds like while she's getting boned by droves of men, you cannot go back to viewing her as just your teacher. Do you really think a former porn star could properly teach your kids when they know so much personal information about her? Not likely.

Not to mention the fact that many students, after learning the truth, may not feel comfortable enough to talk to her anymore, and that disrupts education. Anyone who thinks a porn star would make a good teacher is crazy.

  • Of course not!?

THEY ARE PORN STARS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Would you want your kids to be taught by a porn star, I mean, seriously? All of you who say no, what happens when you find out that your kids are being taught by a former porn star, and is probably looking up things they shouldn't be now that they have talked about porn in class. Children and young adults cane easily persuaded to do stuff they know they shouldn't do, why add to that?

  • They're supposed to be role models

I have 3 girls, my oldest 14, and I would not want her taught by a former porn star. I would not want her to think that being a part of the porn industry is acceptable. Young teens are easily influenced by adults. We all remember our favorite teachers. No teen will ever forget there "porn star" teacher whether they think I positively or negatively about it. How many teens will immediately go home and try to find the video of the teacher? Porn is too easily accessible and this would bring porn to the attention of all students. Why bring anything sexual to the attention of teenagers? There is enough teen pregnancy and se already, why add to it?

  • Of course not

Why should we single porn stars out? Just because they had a job there doesn't mean they're without values and it definitely doesn't mean they're going to try and teach kids that having casual sex with multiple partners in a short span of time is fine. I believe the porn industry IS JUST ANOTHER JOB, and those people shouldn't be judged and definitely shouldn't be denied employment.

  • No. If they're qualified, why ban them?

The porn industry is definitely not a conventional industry, but there are lots of people who make career changes and who have more than one set of skills. The fact that an adult did something perfectly legal in the past for a job should not bar them from teaching as long as they have the required credentials. I don't see how Americans got so afraid of sex.

  • No.

While I do not think porn is 'just another job', I do think it's a trap. Most principals probably watch the stuff, but fear parental reactions to a former porn actor/actress among their staff. I think people should be given an honest chance out of the industry, and not be thrown on the trash heap just because they made a decision we choose to see as immoral. The exploitation is immoral, not the participation in one's own exploitation. The latter is merely survival.

  • No, they shouldn't.

Being in porn is simply another job. It is even a legal job. There is no reason to ban these people from pursuing another career, even if it is teaching, as long as they are no longer working in porn. It is unlikely a student would ever find videos the teacher did, and it is very unlikely to affect how the teacher performs in the classroom.

  • No, former porn stars should not be banned from becoming teachers

While a porn star should not be an ideal role model for children, this is a free country. The fact that the former porn star has the word "former" in front of his or her title is a good start and a sign that they want to work in a more respected profession. They should not be blacklisted from jobs just because of a job that they legally held in the past.

  • Equality or Ethics?

While there is a large issue of ethics involved, ethics are determined by culture. If a prospective teacher had a past in porn, then that is that. Astronauts are not removed from NASA is they have sex on camera. Celebrities and politicians do not receive any serious consequences from revealed sex scandals. Why should former porn stars be told to change passions?

  • No, it would be unfair to bann a pornstar from becoming a teacher.

No, porn stars should be allowed to become teachers because everyone can make changes in their life. I think as long as they weren't really famous, where their face or name is familiar, then it is okay. I would not base it on a judgment of their character, but on the fact that students may recognize them and cause a lot of friction in school.

  • I said no

Because it doesnt change their ability as a teacher. Also that is prejudice. As long as a teacher does her job and they do what they can to help conceal the fact that she was a porn actor she will be alright. If former porn actors didnt want to make a change with their lives they wouldnt be applying for a respectable job.
