Should gays be allowed to serve openly in the US military?

  • Gays should fight in our military

Gays should be allowed to fight because they are just as capable as fighting as women and men in our country that fight just because they love someone of the same gender doesn't mean they can't defend our country just as well they are also men and women too they are not any different from you or me we are all created equal as it says in the constitution I myself am not gay but if someone wants to join they should

  • Gays wanna be in the military? Alright.

Anyone, DUMB ENOUGH to want to be in the military, should be allowed in. End of f****** story. That should be the only requirement. I don't care how many push-ups you can do, put on a helmet, go wait in that fox hole and we'll tell you when we need you to kill somebody.

  • Gays are people too.

Just because someone doesn't like the opposite sex, doesn't mean they aren't people, or that they aren't as good as anybody else in the military. Gay people are people too. They can't help who they are. They were born attracted to the same sex and there is nothing they can do about it. Why are people who are different treated different? Isn't different good?

  • No logical reasons

My personal opinion regarding the controversy over gay in the military is that nobody should pay attention to the sex preferences when somebody is doing the right job. The issue of gays in the military has been a debate for many years, because either people may admit or not, homosexuals have been served the military for generations. Numerous amounts of people who criticize this issue have no military experience. The chore of an individual in the army does not change if the person is gay, and there are not valid reasons why it should change for that. People should be more concerned about more important topics, because there are not any type of negative outcome of their duties reasoned that they are gay.

  • Yes they should!

If a person is willingly going in to the military to fight for the freedom of our country, then they should be allowed in regardless of their sexual orientation. People don't have to be in the military, it is an option and if they are willing to do that for the U.S. then let them. They are no different then straight people!

  • It is not a sin guys

Okay let's say the US did use the DADT policy for about 20 years. However, the US realized these homosexual people can actually give help. For people who think that gays will sexually harass them in the showers, then you are a wuss. There are bombs going on outside, and do you think homosexual people will go and say "Oooh, you have nice hair". NO they won't, they know that they need to be focused on battle and will not do anything stupid for the military itself.

  • OF COURSE THEY SHOULD SERVE!

Gay people should be allowed to serve in the military because any man or woman who is willing to fight for something that does not fully support them, is way more American, man, or woman than straight soldiers. Gay people in my opinion are a lot more mentally equipped than us straight people considering they always have to adjust to their environment, know how to put up with a lot more BS, and are currently the worlds best/smartest fighters.

  • they deserve it

Why not? I mean our military needs as much help as it can get and if they aren't letting them in just because they feel "uncomfortable" then seriously get over it and just do what you love doing! Homosexuals have the same rights as we do. It's sad that because people have to hide who they are because people judge them.

  • Not a crime at all

Okay, the US did use the DADT policy but that doesn't mean it is going on currently. The US military realizes that they need more soldiers, and thus the DADT policy goes down. For the people who think they are afraid of being sexually harassed by gays, you guys are a wuss. The gays joined the military for a reason, which is not trying to pick up men. They also know a battle is going on, so they won't say things to the enemy like"OOOOOOOHHH nice hair sexy" Gays are not sins to the society, and are not dumb as well

  • Gays in the military. Fantastic!

Gay in the dictionary means to be happy. People who are gay just want to fulfill their duty to their country & be happy with their lives. With all the negativity people can't do that straight or gays. Gays & straights are like bras and swimsuits. Some are acceptable and others aren't but they are both the same thing when you get down to the point.

  • Generally support gay rights, but gays in military bad idea

I generally support gay rights, including gay marriage (if two people of the same sex marry, it does not effect straight couples). I also realize that gays love their Country and have skills that can be used in the military.

The reason however that gays should not be allowed to serve openly in the military, is that it is a unique institution, where there is no room for sexual issues, they only distract from the mission.

In the military you have men serving alongside other men, and women with women, in very close quarters , for long periods of time. This is true in boot camp, barracks, bunkers, ships and submarines, among other situations. They are together 24/7, sleeping along side each other and showering together, etc.

The potential for problems is very real. At a minimum, it will make the straight troops feel uneasy. For those who suggest this is just homophobia, it is not. Imagine how a women might feel, having to shower alongside a man, or man having to shower in front of a women. This is the same uncomfortableness, a man would feel being forced to shower next to a gay man.

I know gays would argue they do not check out their shower mates, but that just does not ring true. Humans are sexual creatures, what straight man would not seek a peek at a women in the shower if he had he chance? Of course he would, and gays if their being honest would admit that. So when a straight solider feels uncomfortable showering alongside a gay, it is a very real fear.

Straight troops feeling uneasy, is just the tip of the iceberg. More serious problems are a certainty What happens when two gay guys fall in love, and one is a Private, and the other is his Sergeant? When it comes time to select who goes on a dangerous mission, the Sergeant's objectivity would be suspect.

Another issue, what happens when two gays are in love, and then break up, right at the time of an important mission? This type of drama is fine in civilian situations, but in in the Military, this is a distraction.

These a just a few reasons why the military in the past has correctly avoided mixing military service with sexual attractions.
The elimination of "Don't ask, Don't tell" , is a mistake that sooner or later will be realized, and hopefully reversed. If gays want to serve, they can do so quietly, but any admission or discovery of homosexuality should result in immediate dismissal, no exceptions. The "Don't ask, don't tell" policy, and the total ban that preceded it (my preference), served this Country well, for over 200 years.

To the gays who want to serve their Country, you can do so in a civilian capacity. This opinion shared by the majority of the rank and file in the military, especially the Marine Corp, is not a knock on gays it is simply a common sense recognition of the incompatibility of homosexuality with military service.

  • No, that's nasty!

I honestly believe gays should never be allowed in the military. They are distracting, nasty, and, well, gay! And it's just not normal. We might as well go find someone that knows no English words and let them work at a McDonald's in Manvel, Texas. It's wrong how abortion, gay marriage, and Obama are allowed in America. Get out of here with that! So no, gays should not be allowed in the United States military. Thanks, bye!

  • Gays and The Military don't Mix

Gays in the military don't mix at all. Now I'm not saying gays don't have wonderful talents but they are a distraction, and way to emotional to be fighting next to our brothers and sisters on the front lines. There emotions cause them to make irrational decisions that could end up killing those we love. Say no to gays in the Military. Thank You

  • Humiliating and disgraceful to the military

The armed forces of the United States of America is one of the most respected and powerful organizations in the world. As Americans, we need to make sure that the very people who protect our nation, are "clean" and follow the American morals and principles. Allowing gays to serve would be an insult to the armed forces and to America. To quote Don't Ask, Don't Tell, allowing gays to serve " would create an unacceptable risk to the high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion that are the essence of military capability."

  • Gays should never be allowed in the military EVER

Gays cannot join the military because I mean they're gay. When marines have a barex it's just to live in, now imagine two gay guys living in there. They wouldn't just be focused on work, I believe that being gay in the military is wrong because it you're there to fight, not to have social experiments. The military needs to start stepping it up and making more requirements because now it seems like everyones joining the military because thats the last option they have. What about the people that REALLY want to be in the serivce and can't because a GAY person or someone who doesnt even enjoy their job and was pretty much forced to do it is taking up their part? Obama needs to start re-thinking about the future and what losses we could have. For example what recently happened with the bombs in the boston marathon finish line, we needs people who can wake up an WANT to fight and be in the military, not one who's doing it for dicipline or for the free education, like get a life.

  • Homosexuals in the military.

I am totally against homosexuals in the military. It is against GOD's way and causes this country to lose it blessings from GOD. There will be no unclean thing come into the military camp. Please do not vote for this. This is WRONG. And will not stand with our heavenly Father. I pray for our military every night for their safety and to keep the camp clean from filth.

  • To far from a man

Gays should not be in the military because they have the emotional control of a kid and they wouldn't even make it through bootcamp. God watches over men and women fighting in the front lines. We believe in Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve and as the military goes on they will be strong with god on there side. We don't need gays to come in and get our men and women killed

  • The most obvious reason

How would you react if you were a man and a gay man was next to you on the battlefield and tried to seduce you? What would make him not want to? How would you react if you were a woman and a lesbian tried to make a move on you? If other countries knew we had gays they would target those people specifically.

  • NO gays in the military

I do not want tanks with flowers on it. They are messing with the tradition of the past generations. I don't think it is right for gays to serve. When it comes to combat they will not be ready for it. I just don't like gays straight out end of story.

  • Just say NO!

The military is an exclusive club and membership should be scrutinized. One of the finer points of the military is being moral! Homosexuality is not moral. If it were God made a mistake by destroying Sodom and Gommorah. The only reason this is such a big deal is because people are using the government against itself. Certain criteria needs to met to enter the military just like other private organizations have their rules. If you don't believe me; try getting into Harvard with a 2.0 GPA! NActually, even with a perfect 4.0, there is still stricter requirements before you can get in! By the way.....Being gay is a lifestyle. No one is born that way!
