  • I don't think People understand the Question...

The question is asking if the government should regulate the cable INDUSTRY not television itself... Cable industries have no control over whats on your television. They simply get it from satellite and "cable" it over to your house. So YES the government should regulate the seemingly unprecedented form of a local monopoly that cable companies currently hold.

  • I think that people understand the question

The question is that should the government regulate the cable INDUSTRY, not whats showing on your television... In-fact the cable companies have no control over whats shown on your television. Cable companies get television from satellite and antennae where they package the TV shows and sell them to you the consumer.. That way when your watching TV and it starts to rain, you don't have to worry. So.. Back to the question YES the government should regulate CABLE COMPANIES... Television is the word that got everyone confused

  • Yes. The Government should regulate cable television.

I don't think the material should be regulated but the price of cable should be regulated. Cable television is like a scam. They nickel and dime you to death. Why should it cost $100 plus to watch tv? I think most people feel they have to pay something but it has gotten out of hand and getting worst. There should be some limit to what they can get away with.

  • Um.. Yeah. Idiots.

Because Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Teen Mom exist. Who gives the green light to these s**t shows? So much TV is garbage. Obviously production value doesn't benefit anyone but Snooki. Our economy sucks. The wrong people get compensated for wrong (really immoral) reasons. TV just manipulates the ignorant youth who become increasingly delusional of reality (like true reality). Most of the good TV is on HBO or any other movie channel (i.E. Anything that's not basic cable). Stuff that costs $$. So I guess the impoverished just become dumber and ignorant. C'mon people, your childrens' level of moral, intellectual, emotional valuation of everything has sunken to the lowest common denominator.

  • Yes they should to an extent

In todays society parents have to work longer and longer and see less and less of their children, this not only makes it harder for parents to regulate what their children are watching, but it also becomes harder for the parents to be role models for their children, meaning that they are more impressionable to what they see on television (not to the extent that if they watch a film were someone gets killed that their going to grow up and become killers, but to the extent that if they see someone disrespects an authority figure ie: the parents, they will think its okay to disrespect their parents). Parents will often find it harder to discipline their child consistently as they are always working, all these combinations make for a child that is wild and unruly, and TV, though not the main factor (debatable), this definitely a contributing one. Now I dont believe that violent films should be banned outright, but a do believe they could be toned down I mean do we really need to see a scene where someones head gets chopped off etc. And if a child accidently sees one of these scenes its consequences could be terrible for the child, so I do believe that better safe guards could be put in place and that tv could be toned down a bit.

  • Yes the government should regulate television.

Now even the shows that are suppose to be good for children to watch, contain violence. The characters lie, steal, and even abuse each other for comedy. You cannot tell me the government should not be doing something about that. It is really no different from shows where they have sex every half hour. Eventually, they will find there way to those type of shows. No one under eighteen should be allowed to view certain shows because they distort a young person's mind into believing that inappropriate behavior is acceptable. The government should do its job and the inappropriate content in shows.

  • We need our own freedom! Nobody likes being controlled.

OK, let me start off by saying that it is not the government's fault that stupid 3rd graders are watching inappropriate television shows. It's totally the parent's fault, so back off about that topic. Second of all, nobody likes watching those dumb campaign commercials about what people are doing wrong. Brainwashing people into liking a type of worthless healthcare is not cool, either.
    Peace Out.

  • Juan is gay all the way

People think they should control the T.V here’s why. Many shows like South Park, Family Guy, The Simpsons, and The Cleveland Show have bad stuff like language and more. Some kids in the 4th grade watch these show and think it’s funny or entertainment and there parent don’t know what they are watching. They’re just too busy or don’t care and this cause problems like they acting different. Some kids also watch The Walking Dead, or some crimes shows with murders. For example, a nine-year-old boy was caught because he was putting rat poison on a box of candy that he was going to give to his teacher. The result was he had bad grades and he got the idea from the T.V.

Pop hold it down People think they should control the T.V here’s why. Many shows like South Park, Family Guy, The Simpsons, and The Cleveland Show have bad stuff like language and more. • No. The Government should not regulate cable television.

Regulating cable TV goes against the 1st amendment of the constitution which gives us the right to free speech. The Government steps over their boundaries and tries to take our rights away by trying to decide what we can and can't watch. Devices like the v-chip &other tv monitors that either block bad shows or replace language with different words are out there. Don't let the Government with all their bad decisions they make decide what you and your children can and can't watch. Different parents have different standards for what they allow their children to watch. The FCC doesn't know you personally. They don't set up the ratings for TV with your children in mind, they base it off the majority of people's standards. Don't let the government control you.

  • Regulation would destroy shows like Breaking Bad

The cable television industry started as the maverick to the large television companies. It has grown to promote art and certain niches that the larger networks seem to not have the ability to accomplish. Regulating the cable industry would hurt freedom of speech in many ways, which is a great wonder of the USA.

  • No, they shouldn't.

Too much regulation of people will cause more harm than good. They will start to feel like they have no choices, and get angry, causing problems for people around them. It is our parents' duty to keep their kids away from bad television. Parents need to regulate television for their kids, not the government.

  • No, absolutely not.

The government already regulates too many things and should not be allowed to also regulate cable television. As we have seen with other government regulated things, the cable television industry would simply get more expensive and not be as good. There is no reason that the government should be allowed to do such a thing.

  • No, they should not.

The government aren't needed to regulate the television cable industry. It is the job of parents to make sure children don't watch something on the television that is not appropriate for their age. Parents need to regulate what their children do or don't watch, but the government isn't needed for this. They have more important things to be doing.

  • No, the government should not regulate cable television.

No, I believe that government should not regulate the cable television industry as that infringes on first amendment rights. I believe that the government has enough to do, and that trying to censor cable television is overstepping the boundaries of the government and that cable television should have as many rights to air whatever they want.
