  • We Need To Fund Higher Education

Higher education is becoming more and more important for the workforce. For some people, the cost of attending college, makes them forgo the option and enter the workforce. I think we would be far better off to offer public school through college, so that everyone has an equal opportunity, if they give the time and effort.

  • It would actually BOOST the economy.

To make all higher education free, it would require paying for all students each year attending grades higher than 12th. According to the Chronicle, it would cost $130 billion total to pay for all higher education in the United States for the 09-10 year. This number seems extremely large- but this number could actually be paid for without even thinking about the positive impact to the economy through the graduated students. The U.S. Government spent $104 billion in 2010 paying off student loans, along with $30 billion on Pell Grants. This total surpasses the total to pay for free education- and states paid over $86 billion for financial aid and support for for support of higher education. Higher education would remove of debt, and create a $90 billion increase, rather than a decrease. An argument for the Con side of the argument is that taxpayers have to pay for free education if it were to pass. But the truth is, with the surplus, there wouldn’t be anything to pay for. It would pay for itself. Adding free higher education is a wise decision for the budget of the nation.

  • Should higher education be free?

Higher education should be free because most families can not afford that much money for their children. The government should pay cause the student may be a smart kid and want to be smarter. Going to a higher degree of education isn't up to whether your family is rich or poor. The children will also be under pressured if their parents have to work hard to pay for all the fees.

  • Yes! It is annoying.

I find it so annoying when you have to pay for higher education courses at college. It would make it much easier to access what you want then it is free. Then we can get the people in all the same professions that they want to be in!! £££ At least it is free till 19...

  • Yes, all education should be!

It should be free or at the least VERY highly subsidized. The main point holding most people back from seeking out a college education (even if they have the grades, intelligence and so forth to make it) is the price tag attached. Not everyone qualifies for the proper grants or has the credit rating for student loans and the amount of debt accumulated assures that they will be living below the poverty line for a few years if not decades. We need more educated individuals in this country.

  • Yes, but only to a certain extent.

I believe some forms of higher education should be free, yes. Should everyone have a chance at becoming a Medical Doctor or Lawyer? No, absolutely not. Do I believe these schools should be as expensive as they are? No, not a chance.

Everyone should be educated through at least some sort of certificate program if not an associate’s degree. The more educated we are as a whole, the better off we are as a whole!

  • Bilbo Baggins (Tatooine)

I think pineapples should not be put on pizza because this action often leads to indigestion that causes spontaneous combustion. We should also consider voting for Mario as president, since this would lead to more mushrooms in our economy. We should also take into consideration that lasagna is very delicious.

This results in cheeseburgers blowing up the universe.

  • When its free it will not be valued

When you get something of value for free, you tend to mistreat it, this includes you selling it cheaply! When you stand a chance to lose a lot you tend to protect it more. Further education is a responsibility not a right and therefore requires that YOU take the task of acting responsibly. The education system where the government pays for education is also where you find most students not taking it seriously. Look at the public school system and tell me it is working, in fact will you put your life as a bet that it is working properly? NO! So why would you want to duplicate this system of government paying for education? This reasoning is the result of government paying for it. Its a trick!! Look out for the TAX hikes!

  • No, higher education should not be free.

I do not believe higher education should be free because it is a privilege, not a right. The government already provides a basic education for all. I am going to assume that colleges and universities are not going to give away education for free and it would then land on the government to pay. With as many budget cuts as there already are, where would the government find the money to support free higher education?
