I am a high school junior, every day I get 12+ pages of homework minimum. Because I cannot possibly do all of this and help around the house as I am the only one able to do so, and therefore I have no time to study my material and therefore my test grades suffer as a result.
It's basically forcing students to go home after a stressful day of school and activities and do pointless homework. Teachers should be teaching these things in class, not making the students learn it themselves. It's preventing children from leading balanced lifestyles, with a healthy amount of sleep and activities to keep them fit and active. How is a student supposed to do 3 to 4 hours of homework, study for a plethora of tests and quizzes, play sports, get involved in the community, eat food with nutritional value, and get an adequate amount of sleep, all in one day? That's not possible. The amount of stress homework causes kids is ridiculous, especially when they're already under so much pressure to get into a good college and do well in school, along with making friends and staying active. Homework is not necessary.
Homework is pointless because kids do enough work in school and they don't need more. When they come home they want to chill out, hang out with friends, or do something. Kids are in school for 8 hours a day doing work, other than lunch and recess. Homework is not relevant for kids. I did a survey at school at resource, and a majority of kids say that homework should be banned in school because it is stressful and they procrastinate until the last second. There is no point in homework. It takes away from spending time with family. According to the text with research 'Homework Should be Banned,' “Schools has increased from 9 to 3 with 1 ½ hour of recess and lunch to 8:40 to 3:15 with only 30 minutes of lunch and recess.” This quote shows that too much is just too much homework. Also, another reason is that, according to research, some of the smartest countries like Finland and Japan don’t have homework. We can be just as smart as them without homework. This shows that homework has no academic benefits for grades.
I have not enough family time to spend playing games, opening presents, playing with my little sisters or to spend time with my mom or dad. I think homework takes too much time. I want more free time, less homework, and more time with my friends, my dog or outside with nature.
As a student, I don't get home from school until 4:30 or 5:00 and I am doing homework sometimes until 8:30 almost every night. It is very stressful when you have seven classes a day and homework in every single class; it becomes very overwhelming. On top of that, I have to get up every morning at 5:30 am just to catch my buss at 6:40. Many mornings are very hard for me because of lack of sleep from the night before staying up doing homework and studying for two or three tests the next day.
If they banned homework, test scores might improve because then students would have more time to study and be prepared than if we have five different subjects to do on top of studying for a test the next day.
Why Homework Is Bad
Are you a kid who hates homework!? Well I am one! Did you know that homework leads to bad grades and overwhelmed cranky kids? It can also lead to stressed out children that can throw fits. Also, homework gives less time for a kid to be a kid. There should be no homework for all children. No homework is even good for teachers because they don’t need to correct it because they already have enough to correct
In some schools children can get homework as early as kindergarten, or by the third grade. Homework has been annoying many children by the fourth grade. At elementary school, especially, this is a bad idea because many young students are known for having very short attention spans. They have already been forced to sit and learn for approximately 6 1/2 hours at school, with usually only 2 short recess breaks and lunch and they are also very known to like to talk and chat a lot.
By the time school is out, the kids just want to go home, relax, and be who they are ! It also affects families because Homework trouble = school trouble = family trouble. It is the rare for a child to enjoy homework F.Y.I. .For some students they can be stressed out when they get home and throw fits and for all students they have been exercising their brains at school all day long and at home they are supposed to relax their brain for the next day at school, and if you are not remembering good blame it on the teacher for putting the subject at the wrong time when the students are tired (after recess etc.) or the teacher is not explaining it good.
Some teachers do not answer a students question which would of helped the student to learn better and teachers always used to say to me “Learning is fun!” well I think now math and school now is a lot harder than in the 70’s and 80’s and put for an example a 10 year old in fifth grade with 6 1/2 hours of school and 45-50 minutes of homework and remember 2013 math is A LOT harder than 80’s and 70’s math so do you think you would be having fun? and I also want to state that homework causes cases of kids hating school (like me). So that concludes the end of my persuasive essay top three reasons homework is bad: overwhelming, interference and dislike.
One country named Finland has already fixed their school system there is no homework there is recess for 75 minutes, 9-17 students per class and no tests until you are 16 years old.
Homework should NOT be assigned in schools. It is just a waste of time and is just too much. One reason why homework should be banned is because homework is just too much. Schools have been increased so there is no point into giving homework. According to the text with research Homework Should be Banned, “Schools has increased from 9 to 3 with 1 ½ hour of recess and lunch to 8:40 to 3:15 with only 30 minutes of lunch and recess.” This quote shows that too much is just too much. Students should not cry because of homework. School has been expanded. Have you ever wonder why lunch has been a little shorter than in 1st grade? To include to that too much homework is bad for you. As they say “Too much of something is not good for you”. Second of all, homework just makes kids hate school even more. According to the text Homework should be eliminated, it says “Excessive or pointless homework turns children away from the joy of learning.” Homework is the only word kid’s fear. This quote shows that homework should be fun; it should not be a torture. Every time in school, at the beginning of the year, you’ll hear “Have fun”. Students cannot have fun when homework is torturing kids. Like Jia Ming said, it is no help. Learning needs to be a positive experience learn with a smile and you can walk an extra mile.
Another reason why homework should be banned is because it is evil. According to the text Homework should be Eliminated, “When students have hours of homework, they don’t get enough sleep, sunlight, and exercise.” This shows that too much homework can cause be things to happen. You don’t spend time with your family, your backpacks become really heavy, and this explains why kids are obese. Kids spend so much time doing there homework they don’t have time to even go to sleep. These things can cause a lot of pressure and stress in high school. Also another reason is that according to research some of the smartest country like Finland and Japan don’t have homework. We can be just as smart as or smarter than them without homework. This shows that homework have no academic achievements towards grades. This is why kids should not repeat not have homework.
Finally homework is just too overwhelming. After school, you either have to do chores or go to after school activities. According to the article “Homework Should Be Banned”, it says that “homework should vanish because sometimes when you have homework, you have other activities to do such as music lessons, or an after school job”. Homework is just too big. When you have a lot of after school activities you end up doing it at the last second. To prove it I sometimes see many kids doing homework during breakfast hmm…Felix...Too much homework can cause stress and give kids a bad grade instead of helping.
Undoubtedly, homework hinders learning. There are only 2 outcomes possible when doing homework:
A) You do the homework, proving you were able to do it in the first place and the work was therefore unnecessary.
B) You do not do the homework because you were unable, and therefore did not learn anything.
Even besides these points, there are other reasons why homework hinders learning. For example, homework has to be corrected, wasting valuable class time which could be spent teaching new skills. It is an unnecessary burden on children which causes great stress, and actively teaches them to hate learning. Learning has to be an enjoyable experience to be effective, and if children grow to hate a subject because of the homework they receive, it will mean they learn much less in class. Stress can also affect sleep and eating patterns, thus resulting in lower scores in exams. I could go on forever, there are literally no benefits to homework. Work is for work related-things, home is where you can relax. This line should not be blurred.
Kids don't have enough free time to do anything. They're always doing homework. They don't have kid time, nor much time to play, mostly because their attention is focused solemnly on homework. It's not acceptable, especially when they have 8 hours of school for five days and do a lot of work there.
I think homework should be banned, because schoolwork is enough for us. We play video games for longer, depending on the type of homework. Homework is very hard. People say that, and they waste their time on doing more, like an essay. In year 7 we get 7 or more homework pages and hard schoolwork at the same time.
Homework causes stress in many students. Homework takes time, and it keeps students up late at night getting the work done. The loss of sleep makes it hard to concentrate during class because students are so tired.
I once stayed up until midnight and wound up very tired when morning arrived. It was hard to focus on my lessons. As a student,I think sleep is more important than doing homework. Students study during the day at schools and academies,so there is no reason that we have to get homework.
Many schools have a one-hour rule, but with multiple classes and each teacher assigning one hour of homework, you end up with hours of work to do at home. Students in advanced levels get even more work than the students in basic classes.
Another reason is that the noise around us. If you have a room of your own, you don't have to worry about this problem. I don't have my own room. I have to do my homework in the study. When I'm working, my mom is busy printing things out. It's annoying and makes it hard for me to concentrate. I can't do my homework before I sleep. I have to complete my homework in the morning when she's not using the study, before I head for the academy. Getting it done in the morning means rushing. Usually, the answer are wrong because I didn't have time to really read the questions.
Students often think homework should be banned. I think so too.
I am 12-year old student in year 7 struggling to keep up with the enormous amount of homework that is given to all of us. Personally I think that it's ridiculous that we go to school for 6 long hours only to come home and do another 2 or 3 hours of homework. Homework is so stressful that it has brought me to the point of breaking down and crying from anxiety of handing all the work in on time. This is why home work should be minimized or banned.
It gives teenager/children more stress and weight to carry as burden than to actually help them learn the content. For example, if a teacher assign a packet full of problems, the children would care more about hurrying up and finishing the homework rather than to dedicate their time to actually learn and understand from homework. Loads of homework VS few practice problems.
What children study at school should NATURALLY be reinforced at home through effective methods of revision and reinforcement using support and aids that are available at home. Homework per se that is given just to fill a log, or because you have to or even to reduce the teacher's load and get the kids to do it at home - now, that is Homework that must be banned. Increasingly homework is becoming a terror factor for these reasons. Most often, the amount of homework given to a child is not regulated nor is the amount of time taken to complete it considered. Every subject teacher feels that the child has to only do his/her homework. He/she does not bother to find out whether the submission dates of the subjects are clashing or not- if some schools ensure that this does not happen, well, good for them, then. The child is not taught effective methods of revision. Homework is given as a 'must do and submit'. The child does not feel the urge to do it. He/She feels compelled. Obviously then he/she rebels or does the homework grudgingly. Is there a better way to reinforce concepts taught at school? I feel the only way forward is to ignite a passion for learning in children at school , to help them assess their own strengths and weaknesses and find strategies to overcome those weaknesses . Simply forcing homework down their throat will not work. Learning must cross set boundaries of classwork and homework and encourage the child to explore the world beyond books, whether at home or at school. If academic rigour is what we are aiming at - the child needs to understand that those formal skills must be worked upon and would only do him/her good. If the child is involved , heart and soul in the process of bettering himself/herself, work that needs to be done at home will not sound as ugly as 'homework ' sounds today. In fact, with adequate skills of time management , self-assessment and relevant study skills, the child will , of his own accord sit down everyday to strengthen his concepts at home. It will no longer be necessary to have a debate on such a topic as teachers will find that 'homework' need not be given when the learner is self-motivated.
If children are made to do homework, they will, at a very early age, begin to associate learning, education, and the school system with mindless labor and busy work. This discourages children from wanting to learn more, because they will not see learning for the opportunity it is; they will merely see it as a job they are FORCED to do.
Yes, I feel it should be banned because you don't get any time for yourself, pointless. Because you already get work at school, seriously, home too? It kills trees, waste of time, boring, some parents don't even get it, it completely stresses you out. Not only you, but the teachers because all they do is grade tests, homework, classwork, and projects. I'm pretty sure they're tired of doing it too. I don't feel homework necessary.
Homework is a serious waste of time, there are some benefits of homework but the negatives out-rule the benefits by a mile. Most teachers say homework helps responsibility and our knowledge but this is not true. I as student personally think that kids are responsible and organize ourselves better than our teachers at times. On a weekday, this is my usual agenda,
Wake up in the morning, Catch the bus, Get off at the correct stop, take a train, and walk 10 minutes to my school. I then have to go to the school office and drop off my phone, and my wallet. I then have to walk to my locker and get out my keys (if I forget them I have to walk to the Principles office which is quite far away and get the master key) and get out my books. I have to carry them to Homeroom and since I have a job as Office Monitor I have to collect any forms from the other kids and go all the way down to the General Office and drop them off. I then have to go to whatever room we have Period 1 in. Since I go on my own, I have to know where everything is and what room to go to, I cant just follow a classmate like most kids in my class do. If I am late that automatically means a 2 hour detention for me. Just my luck that my name is first on the roll call list. I do my work for that session and do the same until recess. At recess I go to the office, collect my money and buy myself lunch. I then have to survive another 3 sessions. I then catch the bus and go home so thats organized for you! I have written 300 words so Im done with my homework! My name is Anthony and I am 14 years old.
I’m definitely not the only student who agrees with this topic. Students all over the world have their lives controlled by homework, because not only is it boring but it takes up so much time and effort and after 8 hours of school, it feels absolutely useless.
Firstly a 12-13 year old should be getting at least 8-10 hours of sleep but it can be hard when you have homework to finish and worries about it when you’re trying to go to sleep. Also, studies show that being stressed can have a large impact on health and the brain.
Secondly, teachers worry that they aren’t learning enough in class, well if students have less homework that is more time to rest for the next day and be more active and less apprehensive, making it easier to listen and absorb the knowledge.
Homework makes less sleep for the child doing it. All it does is hurt you and your friends. You don't even benefit from homework. All it does is waste your time and sleep. So you have so much stress that you get less sleep and less sleep equals less info your brain wants to hold. So you don't want to learn more.
I wake up, go to school, come home, eat dinner, do homework, and then go to bed. The next day, it starts all over again. I have no time to do anything else and it just wears me down. I lose all my energy and interest and my grades always slip in the middle of the year.
I come home every day from school and i have even more school to do and that isn't fiar. Homework should be illegal so i don't have to do it anymore. I'm a 6th grader in high school and i have been in school for a while so i think homework should be banned because it's bad.
I hate homework because I like to be free . When teachers give homework it will be like a length homework no free in the home . And our parents does not to the television and they let us to sleep at 12 : 00 clock at morning getting up late due to exam time no sleep in the home
I am stressed enough during school and want to relax when I get home but can't because of homework. Most of my stress is caused by homework because I get anxious over it. If homework was banned, I would still enjoy life. I would be so much more happy without homework. It really pains me to have homework when I come home.
Most teachers spend half the class teaching and the other half of class practicing with the students wat they taught. If you dont understand the work in class what makes teachers think yhey will be able to do the work on there own at home. And some people just dont have time to do the pointless work.
Life is made for people to enjoy themselves and working to become who they really are. Some people really just don't need homework. They are literally better things we can do besides homework, and nobody wants to do it. If we don't to it, we get punished, looked down upon, given marks that seem unfair. The low grades might even lower the self-esteem of people! Not to mention, it stresses out people all over the world. We would definately be a much happier, creative, less-limited bunch if we didn't have to work outside of school. The way it works is unfair; not everyone is meant to be a mathematician, a doctor, an intullectial writer, but they force us to do it anyway.
I receive three pieces of homework per day, I'm expected to spend at least 45 minutes to an hour on each. To me, this is ridiculous. I already work for six hours at school; is that not enough? When I get back from school after a long day of work, I'm exhausted. More work is the last thing I want to see. Revision work for tests and exams? Preparation for writing assessments? This is fine. But homework is just a waste of time. We need time to relax.
It is not fun it is boring everyone rushes trough it we do enough at school and do you think we want to do more at home. Ever one don't care if they get the right answer and if we dont have to have homework we will be better of.
When you do Homework you gain nothing out of it like all you do is study and then go to bed next day study go to bed etc. Homework should be banned because it's making all children sad and just makes them upset. If homework is banned children can have a proper rest form school.
Doing pointless homework assignments makes me so incredibly unhappy. This is my life, why should I do things that make me unhappy? I am gaining nothing from it. Having to annotate the meaning of a book, instead of being able to just enjoy it drives me crazy. I could be doing more important and meaningful things with the hours that I instead am spending doing school work. Students are stressed out and pressured to do work. That is not right. I absolute love learning, but forcing me to do homework just does not sit right with me.
Homework is hard for kids and parents. Nobody should have to do homework any more or have to put up with questions we don't get . Teachers need to stop sending homework home with kids and do it all in class. Everybody needs to be on the same page and agree that their should be no more homework
You go to school for 8 hours. Learn pointless stuff that you will forget by the night. TIME off school is supposed to be a break, not to spend more hours on school. My whole life sucks. I go to school, come home, do homework, and do this stupid thing my parents make me do. I never want to go home because my mom is so angry all the time. All those teachers always talk about how good homework is blabalabal when all it does is stress out kids. Isn't 8 hours a day already enough?>>>
Students get really stressed out trying to do homework and stay up late therefore being to tired for school the next day as they can't concentrate children don't get the homework that they're set and they stay up even later! Teachers have more marking if they do homework, children need a life and to have a chance to do clubs out of school so that they can make more friends but they can't! Homework sucks. And homework kills trees!
Because it's horrible and we hate homework there is no point. It's just there in our life to annoy us and trust me that's really annoying. It makes us stressed out and we stay up so late trying to do projects. Then we aren't ready to take on the day.
I am fed up with the sleepless nights and panic attacks. Children of primary school age should not be going through this. School has them 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. By the time my two come home I have 3 hours with them before bedtime. Both of them are top of the class and doing extremely well according to their reports, but I am continually told by their teachers that their learning IS suffering.
Homework needs scrapping! It is bad for my childrens heath and they no longer enjoy it.
I am an 8th grader, everyday I come home with loads and loads of homework. I never actually thought I would hate learning and hate school. Basically what teachers are doing is being lazy and expecting us to do the learning instead of using class time to teach it. This leads to stress, and arguments at home. Do they really think we have no life? I have adhd and it takes me a longer time to complete homework. It is very unhealthy and I am very depressed because I have no time to explore the world and do the things I love.
I think we should ban homework because it saves no time for the kids to be in shows and other stuff like that. Maybe if they do agree with banging homework you should make longer school days so they do there homework at school. That's why I think the should ban homework.
Homework takes up fun time with friends and family it could be to loud in your house for you to work on your homework without stressing out. Your brother and sister could be begging you to play and it would cause noise and stress. You might be falling asleep at school because you are so tired from staying up to late.
I'm only in first year high school and I'm up pretty late doing homework. It really is useless especially if you take notes and understand what you are learning at school. All it does is cause stress and lack of sleep. Most importantly lack of fun. I never get to do what I like with so much homework.
Its a waste of time and it takes away fun. It makes you tired thinking about it. There is not really any point of doing it. Theres no teacher to help you and the worst thing is you might fall asleep at school in front of all your mates. Just a waste of time
Think about it we spend 6-7 hours a day at school! We scream we yell we pull our hair out we get stressed we get frustrated we get angry at school. We walk out of school and we are SO freakin excited that we get to escape from "prison" and then we get home and realize we have a conplete load of work to do, and repeat every single day of our lives 14 hours a day. I spend 7 hours EVERY night doing homework and 3 hours studying and sometimes i stay up till 7:30 and i usually wake up at 8. IT'S INSANE HOMEWORK SHOULD BE BANNED!
I personally think that homework should be banned because they say it is given so that the students can practice or can review the lesson if they can't understand it. But how do you expect the students to improve if some doesn't do their homework, instead they just copy from their classmate.
In today's classrooms, students are given graded homework, and some students don't have time to do it. Most students have extracurricular activities such as sports, or church, and some students have multiple activities to attend to, so giving them homework to complete is telling them that they will either have to get a zero on a grade and do well on a test the next day, or to do their homework, and flunk a test from lack of sleep.
Homework takes to much time to do and takes away time from higher studies and extracuricular activities. And also if you lose homework you lose a lot of points and can get a bad grade. also at my school it is way to hard to do in a few minutes. it usually takes 2 hours if you are smart.
It should be banned because it is stressful and stress leads to bad grades. It also takes away time from doing other activities that are more fun such as clubs or sports. Sometimes you have to miss a day from your club or sport you are doing and for some of those things you can get kicked off from missing too many days. Homework is boring and a waste of time.
Homework, we don't need any homework! We already have enough time studying in school! If the teachers want to know if we understand work and if we can do it by ourselves, then they should do that during class! We could have learning or a bit of study at home, but not written work or any other of that homework! We could practice it by tests. Some of us want to be actors, footballers, singers, dancers etc. We don't need geography, history, etc. for our future. We have what we call a SOCIAL LIFE! We go to clubs (youth clubs, football clubs, etc) and when we get back home, we want to enjoy ourselves outside with our friends, but we don't have time for that because we need to do our homework. What if your family wants to take you out for dinner, and you come home late and didn't finish homework. Would you get in trouble? And it'll look as if the school is a negative place! School should be a a positive place to be in! HOMEWORK should be banned !
Homework is relatively pointless because kids do enough work in school, they don't need more. When they come home they want to chill out, hang out with friends, or do something, not do homework. Kids are in school for 6-7 hours a day doing work, besides lunch/recess. Its not relevant for kids, if anything they hurt their average.
In Korea, most students attend two to three separate schools called academies. Their stress is multiplied. I think homework must be banned. I am thirteen years old, and I am going to two academies: one specifically for English and the other for math. I have to write three pages every day. Most students wake up at 6 AM because of homework. I never go to bed before midnight because I need to stay up late to complete my homework. It honestly drives me crazy.
Homework should be banned because kids don't have enough time to be active. It may cause cheating because they can get answers from parents so they will think its OK during a test and get answers from classmates. Kids will end up obese because they need at least one hour a day to be active but they are inside doing homework all day. So yes, homework should be banned.
Homework should definitely be banned. I'm seeing a lot of stress in my little sister, and home with her is very bad. Every night she has at least 3-4 pages of work and she's only in 2nd grade! I'm 5 grades ahead of her and I am also ambushed by homework. It is causing her stress and the rest of my family anxiety. Without homework, that would take away that stress and anxiety. I think we need to do more work in school, not at home. Kids need to be kids and without homework, they can be.
I would like to see a study that proves homework significantly improves retention of material or raises test scores. As a student, of course I understand homework sucks. I can say with absolute certainty that I am one of the smartest in all of my classes, but I am also almost failing every class. Why would this be? Relentless homework, because "Honors Kids can do it!" I have lots of fun with my friends and family after school. This shouldn't be about covering enough material. Maybe shorten the curriculum to the basics and the students who desire to pursue a deeper understanding can take the next class for the subject. A civilized society should NOT rush their children into learning as much as possible because "it is good for them." Why is their a rise in stimulant use for academic performance? Pressure. Not from peers, but from the school and parents. Let the students study as they need.
Homework should be banned because some parents can help their kids with homework, but as they get older, it gets harder for them to help with it. Some kids are scared to go to school the next day knowing that their work isn't done. And it's not the parents job to be helping the kids, it's the teacher's job. That's what they're paid for, isn't it? I don't need to go to school learn all day and go home and worry about more work. I know that when I get homework I am at the table until 3:30 to 11:30 most nights.
Because in high school you are given too much homework from all the subjects you do and you have no time to complete them all if you have after school activities like sports and a part time job. It also spoils your social life which is also important for a growing student.
Homework is a chore and kids don't want to do their homework. If anything cut homework and expand school time, at least they would be able to still have enough information to pass quizzes and tests. As a kid we would dream of having no homework, why don't we make that dream a reality for our children.
I am a year 9 student and my brother has just entered high school in year 7, and like many other students we would both agree that homework is pointless!!!
-Stress and pressure
-Takes away from free time
-Takes away from after school sports
-Can negatively affect performance
-7 hours of school already
-Other countries, like Japan, have less homework but higher IQ
-Takes away family time
-No science backs up homework benefits
Not only are these a few reasons, but I myself saw that doing more homework make my grades drop dramatically! From a straight A+ student, I am now averaging a low B!
Back in the old days, it seemed like a viable way of learning. But now the internet is floating around and the internet has the largest database of information in the world. If I had homework right now, I could look up what 34×15 is right now. It was more effective back then than it is now with the internet
I get a lot of homework but I also have a lot of other commitments that I am not willing to give up such as soccer, work and driving lessons that take up a lot of my time. Also, doing my homework takes away time I could be using to study for upcoming tests. I also have a little brother who I love to spend time with BEFORE he grows up!
Students are already kept at school for 7 hours straight, now you're going to take even MORE time away from us when we're at home? Seriously, sometimes homework can take so long that we're up doing it until 11:00 at night, leaving us no time to do things that we actually want to do. There's no time to spend with family.
I personally wish to be a stunt pilot and am being swamped with assignments and homework. I have very few friends from my new school and have no time for any activities that might benefit me such as cadets which I had to drop. Some careers involve qualities that can not be taught through home work such as physical fitness and survival techniques.
Homework is stressful and causes a lot of frustration. Children should have time to be themselves. Most people spend 6 or more hours every day learning at school. That's quite a long while....
Projects are ok but homework every day is just going too far. That is why I think homework should be banned.
Homework puts stress on the pupils, and furthermore, it discourages learning! Pupils do not enjoy homework when it gets in the way of them enjoying their activities after a hard day of school. It does not make sense since you spend 6 hours at school, or a few hours of the lesson a week. Teachers should be more organised in what they go through, so they don't leave extra work for poor students after school. It is pointless, discouraging, and places stress on the students.
I spend 6 and a half hours at school and when I get home what is the first thing I do? Relax? Meet with friends? Play with my brothers? Spend time with family? You wish buddy!. More schoolwork! Homework has done nothing to help with my learning and stresses not just me , but also my family!
I think home work should be banned. Some time during classes should be cut out for classwork. Maybe even have study hall where classes have times to go to a place to finish work to do. That can even open up new teaching jobs. Their job is to help with all subjects while kids are working on their work. That is an extra class. It even helps peoples busy schedules. That is why i think we should ban homework
Students already spend 6-7 hourse straight at school, and most of them always look forward to getting home, only to be dissapointed because of homework. Students should be able to relax and hang out with other students, not always be doing schoolwork and hmework. Seriously, they already do loads in school... Why do even more at home?
I am a student, and homework is one of the biggest annoyances in my life. It adds so much stress to life. I learn most of my stuff from school, and homework only helps a little bit. This is a similar situation for many of the students that attend my school. I wish my school abolished homework. It would make life easier for me, and my classmates.
We have enough going on in our lives. We already spend 6/7 hours at school then we get sent home with loads of homework ! I would rather be at home doing other things than homework. Its just so stressful and i was actually ill for being stressed about it because of the amount of homework being set. School on its own makes me depressed and i always feel like breaking down. We could have personal issues going on outside of school and homework would just make it worse ! Why should we do extra work at home just to make our teachers happy ? If they want us to learn and understand what we're doing, they should go back to university and learn how to teach us properly instead of making us do it in our own time ! There is no point in it. All that happens is they mark it then dooon it just gets thrown away !!
I've had so much home work I personally am averaging less than hour of sleep a night and I am only high school freshmen it really needs to go there's no practical purpose really unless there's trying to use it to teach us that after work you have to come home and do more work not sleep ever even worse when you stay up all night doing it and you yelled at for falling asleep in school
If kids have homework to do, they won't have time to sleep, do other actives or study. It can impede them from going at their own pace or working on their own problems. It will prevent kids from enjoying their time in school or being alert in it when they have stayed up doing their homework. They might even skip out on school because they didn't finish something.
Homework is something that teachers shouldn't give to anyone. It brings stress and anxiety. Homework can lead to depression. It just isn't right, we aren't able to sleep well because of certain things we need to work on, if we don't do it we are often told that we would fail the class.
Homework creates unnecessary stress for kids and can lead to sleep deprivation. The average time a high school student spends doing homework is four to five hours per day; the average time range that a high school student is released from school is 2:00 to 4:00 PM. With chores and jobs filling up many high-schoolers' schedules, many do not have time to finish homework and get to sleep at a reasonable time. Lack of sleep causes a plethora of health problems for kids and adults alike. Therefore, homework creates unnecessary stress for kids.
Additionally, homework impedes children from leading a well-rounded life. With homework taking up to five hours on average for high school kids to complete, how exactly are they able to spend time with family or participate in extracurricular activities such as sports or other clubs. Spending time with family and friends as well as participating in extracurricular activities help better children's abilities to communicate and deal with other people as well as their mental and/or physical health.
Therefore, homework should be banned. It is the responsibility of the child to learn during school; it should not be their responsibility to have to work after school unless they were unable to complete some of the work in school.
Homework should be banned in all schools. There are many reasons why homework should be banned. Almost all schools have homework and it’s tough on students. I’m going to tell you the main three reasons why homework should be banned.
First, homework takes students time for other activities. Students play sports such as football, baseball, and soccer. Sports take time for students to do any homework. Students also have chores. Chores are like homework from your parents and you might not have any time to do your school homework. Students also have other school activities that take time away to do homework. Band, choir, and etc. Are examples of activities that take time for homework.
Second, students are too tired to do homework. Students are tired of school and want to rest when they get home. The students just can’t wait to get home and rest. They work hard already in school. Why give them more work? The students don’t want to bring school home with them. They just need a rest from school.
Last, homework hurts the brain. Homework takes too much concentration. Many websites say that too much concentration can damage the brain. Homework is also too much work. According to Sara Benet, "homework made my daughter hate school because of all the work she had to do for homework.” Homework is also hard to do. That’s why some parents do their kids homework for them.
So, ban homework for the students. Think about your kids. What if homework damaged your kid’s brain? Would you feel bad? I don’t want my kid’s brains to be damaged by homework.
Okay, imagine this: Your homework assignments are given to you. They seem like assignments that are very familiar to you. You are able to get them done like it's getting a quick shot. But after you turned in the assignment, you get a horrible grade on it. When you get a bad grade on a homework assignment, you know you're screwed. Your grades go down like the amount of hot cakes at a sweets stand. And once your parents see that certain grade, you know that this is just the beginning for you. I say No Homework!!!
I hate homework more than almost anything else in my life so far. Homework has literally been the biggest nuisance of my childhood life. It would not be so bad if it was occasionally given, but I get homework every single day including weekends and holidays. It is so frustrating and downright a nuisance for us that I think homework should literally be banned by law. That way, I would be protected from unnecessary burdens imposed on me by pedagogues. Homework rarely ever provides any benefit whatsoever for anyone. On the other hand, homework provides a lot of problems such as stress, lower test scores, sleep deprivation, depression and conflicts among families. I still find it hard to comprehend why teachers are motivated to even ever give homework despite all its effects I mentioned above. I did not make up these facts. You can look it up on the Internet to find it out yourself!
Too much homework is something that can trigger depression, stress, anxiety, etc. In many teens. We all know that depression is a huge problem with teenagers today. Depression is the leading cause of suicide in teenagers, adults, anyone. We have to reduce this problem, so I say we ban homework!
Every school day, students have to do around seven hours of hard work each day. Why would they need to pile on more work if the work students have already is enough. Teachers and schools must think that students have no outside lives, but they definitely do! Some like to have family time, online time, time to go out and have fun. Homework gets little to no time for these activities.
Homework should be banned. Students spend at least 8 hours/day doing school work. I for one don't see the point in doing homework when we already have at least 40 hours of school. Doing class work and stuff like that is great but not at home. Students want to do other things besides homework. We have our own lives to live and homework just screws with it. We need to ban homework so we can enjoy our childhood.
Homework is boring and kids loose there intention span. Kids also need time for friends and family. If kids are stuck inside doing homework all day they wont get any sleep. Kids all think that homework is boring. We are never going to use most of the stuff that we learn anyway. Kids need less and less and less and less homework as possible.
As I am a current pupil at a high school, I get hammered with home work, to be honest after about 5 hours of constant learning etc etc, the last thing I want to be doing is when I arrive home is continue that 5 hours, and last time I checked is after school OUR spare time, not our teachers time, ad this also applies with weekends, I did a little list of who DO want it banned, a suprising 98% wanted it goe due to not having time to do it.
I already spend enough time at school sad really how they take advantage of us really I am irritatingly the fact that we have homework every day and its stupid how long each assignment takes and the fact that they expect us to do it all in one night some kids can manage but me personally I drown and I get a+ on all m tests but the homework is what kills me
I agree that homework should be banned, because most kids lose time that they could be used in more important activities. These include doing sports, and spending time with their family. Sometimes they even use the computer, and teacher don't notice. This teaches the students that cheating is a good thing.
Us students think its just a waste of time just tells us in class and study guides. If we should get homework it should be easy homework more like a review of the subject. Teachers I think would see the affect and agree it also means less home work for them to grade.
Homework is a common subject many people debate about. Most people say know and have a variety of facts to back them up. Those who say no keep saying it’s a good way to review the material I disagree. After, eight hours of school kids want to hang out with their friends but they can’t because of homework from almost every class. This often stresses kids out so they will just get the answers online and most admit to their parents doing it for them. It also removes a lot of time for sleeping which makes them tired during school. Students have even committed suicide because of too much homework. When parents force their kids to do homework it ruins the parent child bond. Homework is just a review of the previous eight hours after even more hours of homework kids don’t have time to go outside and get enough sleep. I think homework has more negatives than positives and should be banned considering it reduces kids learning. If we ban homework kids will get out more, Have more energy for school, and have time for friends. It seems that if we remove homework kids would get more learning and get more time to be a kid I think we should ban homework since removing it will have more positives.
Well, i spend 8 hours at school, and it is a lot! What do you think what i want to do when i get home? Study? NO!! For something we spend 8 hours at school! Teachers think that we doesn't have a life and nothing is more important than school. But they are wrong! What we all want to do when we get home is to play and be with friends or family!
I think homework should be banned, mostly due to stress. I understand that if you don't finish work in class it should be acceptable to finish it at home (especially since so many kids goof off in class) but the teachers piling work on us as we are leaving out the door is uncalled for. I'm a hard-working student and I still struggle to keep everything up to date.
There are numerous things to do outside of school. Lots of kids now have jobs, along with a social life and spending time with their family PLUS any chores they may have to do around the house. Having extra work is stressful, and being told over and over again that if you fail in school you fail in life, is not comforting. You can ask anyone, all of them will say homework sucks. Besides that, but at least for me, home is the worst place to do work. There are too many distracting things and my work is now so complicated even my parents can't help me with it. That leaves me kinda stuck.Slaving away for hours on end to try and keep up is absolutely exhausting. Some people I know stay up past midnight trying to get homework done! By that time I have given up and have to do a rush job in the morning, resulting in me turning it in late or only half-done. This is not due to my lack of understanding, but that I simply do not have enough time and I suffer for that.
So it is of my belief that if I have to chose between good grades and my mental well-being, well, something is obviously wrong.
I am in middle school and do 5 hrs of homework. We have very stressful lives and teachers only make it worse. Teachers don't understand that we have other things to do than homework. I just want homework to be banned and never come back again. Every day I take 7 hrs of punishment then another 5 hrs of punishment.
Every child wants to spend time with their family.
We spend 6-7 hours(including break and lunch)at school,we revise at home and most parents are strict about Homework do you really think that teachers teach at school, they just do that for their own good like MONEY.
But children don't need Homework
Homework is a complete waste of time because most teachers don't even teach. It takes away valuable time that we can use on something on what we like to do or better yet spend time with the people we love. We spend more time in a classroom then we do with our loved ones. It is not fair, and then we have homework over the weekend and during the week. Its called a week (end) not a week doesn't end. A week end is our time we got off work and do what we want!
I am in high school and the amount of home that I get is ridiculous!
When I come home from school all I do is homework, I have no time for anything else. On the week end all I have time to do is homework. It limits what you can do so much. I have come up with a compromise, which is maybe schools should have an extra hour or two so pupils can catch up on homework so when they go home they can just relax. Homework is basically just practising things from lessons. It can make you stressed and tired which can affect school grades.
In my school we have homework in all subjects, and us(me and my friends) never do it.
We came to school and ten minutes before the lessons we copy from a colleague who has done them.
When we forget to copy teachers always write something to our parents.
Now imagine that we have done the homework. We probably lost one hour, that we could have used to study for the important test that we are having next day.
Let's face it whether or not adults want to admit it or not, our lives doesn't revolve around school and never will! We already spend what max 50 hours a week at school? If we already have that much of our time in school, then why should school be apart of our lives outside of it? It's just going to add more stress into our already stressful lives.
Work should be taught in class. And if teachers can not manage to do so, then they are not qualified to be a teacher. Simple.
It is far too stressful and very pointless.
I heard once that a teacher must not give a student any work which they are not willing to do also. I don't care if teachers say they have other work/things because so do we.
Teaching is their job right? So focus on educating us in class rather than giving us unnecessary homework.
People who say we are being lazy are just plain rude. I can not believe how dim sighted you are. Teenagers are already going through so much change and stress. Trying to find themselves, busy with after school activities. We are NOT lazy. But we are stressed. Unless you are a student which gets a load of homework, then you shouldn't have a say at all. Your opinion does not matter what so ever because you don't have to deal with the problem.
Firstly, students sit down at a desk for the majority of the day, five days a week. Then, when we come home we must complete homework from multiple subjects which takes many hours to get done. But many people have after school activities and other priorities. Something that I don't think people understand is that we have a life outside of school. To be honest, the more school I have to worry about, the more I want to rebel against it. Besides, homework is supposed to be reviewing what you learned in class, not what a teacher hasn't been to finish in class. People tend to rush their homework to get it over and done with so we don't benefit from it what so ever. Then, when we get homework on the weekends I get very stressed out because I do not want to spend my weekends doing stupid homework when I could be out. We keep getting told to be active, join a sport. But we have no time due to the unnecessary amount of homework we get.
Hate having homework everyday because it stresses me out and I can't study or play our be with my family. We need a break between school and home because we need to spend time with our family when we have the time to do so. Homework should be out of school!!!!!!!!!!
Homework creates stress and destroys a person's childhood. It forces children to take time away from sports and other essential activities that a child needs. It makes children unable to be outside and get exercise and it one of the factors that is leading to obesity. Depression is also created from homework. This is by children being unable to do what they like to do. I know high school kids who have sports and often can go to them because of homework overload. Plus, even without the sports most of them still have to stay up till at least 11:00 pm. They all have to get up at 6:00 am. Studies show that teens need at least 9.5 hours of sleep every night, and these teens are getting, at the most, 7 (and at the least, 5.
Studies show that homework is not needed for learning, some scientists even say that homework is the opposite of what teachers and other homework users say. It is somewhat needed for learning but but essentially, it doesn't help. Some teachers say that they don't have enough time to teach all that they need to in their short time. But my argument to that is, if we ban homework, I at least would be glad to extend the school day. Homework also takes away from a child's life and fitness. I know kids that have to stay up till 12 o'clock every night and get up at 6 o'clock. It takes away from their childhood, which, in my mind, is essential for later life.
Coming from Finland, I have had the liberty in choosing how I want to spend my free time. Finland encourages students to explore themselves, and having homework hinders that chance of self-exploration. When I have homework, I only do it for the intention of just finishing it rather than to actually learn something. Students learn management and learn to discover how they learn as an individual as everyone is different.
Yes! Ban homework.. As part of our school policy, homework must be given out, and students should complete 30minutes of homework,, per night! I think this is too much as many students have other commitments.
Sport practices, jobs to do around home, looking after siblings, at after school care etc
It is a hassle for the teacher to mark/grade and make up something that is remotely fun,and enjoyable for the children to do
I don't think we need homework. We already have seven hours of school, and on top of that there's our homework to be done. My sister and I don't come out of our room at all except to use the restroom and for dinner. We are always busy doing our homework that we barely have any time for our family at all. I admit, school would be much less stressful and better without homework. If there was no homework, I would actually look forward to school the next day.
I believe that homework is too much work, and provides more stress on students than necessary. If there should be any homework at all then teachers from different classes should discuss and plan together. This will prevent them from flooding students with a ton of homework, and not even knowing that the student had to stay up really late to finish it all.
I get a ridiculous amount of homework each day, with a lot of it being so called "creative" homework. What is this, I hear you ask. It is nothing more than a desperate attempt by teachers to get people to enjoy their subject. I have asked all the people I know (practically) and NO ONE liked creating leaflets and posters about algebra and the play Macbeth, respectively. I actually wouldn't mind homework as much if it was just a simple maths worksheet, but its just those creative homeworks that make me hate school. My free time is just disappearing quickly, and I feel that I might as well be in a boarding school.
We have 8 hours of school. That is plenty of time to do any work we need to have done. When we go home, that's home time. It is time to spend with our family, and do sports, and other things that may occur. Every educational thing should be held at school and not at home. Because that is what school it for.
Busy work: that's a majority of what home work is these days and it's only to get a grade. In math, homework is necessary to learn the equations and such. But when they hand you a paper and say "graph this, it spells out a fun word!" You lose motivation to do homework. Teachers should only give homework when they need it to prove what they've taught is important.
You see im a 15 year old boy who is pressured with too much schoolwork every day and need some time to muself to do sick and awesome things at home like videogames and guitar playing and ripping a sick cone with my gunj head bro thomas #xfactor material #swag
What is the point of doing homework? All that homework does is to put stress on pupils. Most of the homework which is given out, is nonsense. Things that to be honest wouldn't kill you not to do. Without homework I believe that students will have a clearer mind and be able to concentrate on schoolwork than worry about homework. Some may say that homework helps teachers see where children are at. Well I strongly disagree with this. We still have assessments for children and this is usually the determines whether a student has passed or has failed. I also believe that children should revise for tests for homework. However they should be allowed to concentrate more on their schoolwork and their behaviour in class than having to be anxious about homework. This puts a lot of pressure on a child's back.
We still seem to be stuck in the dark ages. We abolished teachers hitting children, but yet we keep homework, which in some ways is a type of punishment. We should let children spend family time together instead of stressing themselves over homework! Having to complete silly sheets of paper will not help them in the real world. It's about time we started seeing sense!
Yes it should because it boring and really a wast to our time in maybe we need to something and they should leave school work at school cause that's is the whole point of school is to learn at school and not at school cause at homs we should be able to what ever we want at home cause when your at home we be able to spend time with your family cause that is the whole point of a family is to do fun things with them
It only gives us more work to do at home so we have no time to relax. It doesn"t make us smarter because we barely even try to do it. I also think that kids don't even try because teachers never ever check the homework to make sure it is complete or correct.
I do gymnastics 5 or 6 days a week, and the last thing I want to do at 8:30 when I come home is homework. Students work so hard in school, and need to enjoy their break after school. I feel I have no time for homework with my schedule.
Children aren't supposed to spend hours at home doing work, upon the many hours they have at school. It only causes problems, for example, say parents were wanting to go out somewhere with their child, but they couldn't because their child is sitting with pages and pages of homework. Not only that, but the fact that many teachers are so hard on the pupil just because they didn't do a few questions at home, yet they seem to be fine if you don't finish work in class. It gets in the way of your daily life, for both the pupil and parents, as a father myself, I will vouch for that.
As a student at school today i think that homework should be banned because life isn't all about school and work. People like me have extra activities outside of school such as dance and everyday life. I understand why students should sometimes study but they should be able to do it when they have time because it's there own felt if they fail not the teachers and it will come back to haunt them!
The only homework that is really useful is the kind where questions or problems are solved by the students. However, the homework that I, as a student, spend the most time on is simply paraphrasing textbook articles. I learn the same thing from simply reading the article, and the teachers who assign it even admit it is only to prove that we read the article. I think there is no point in outlining and annotating articles for homework, and are unreasonably time consuming and serve no purpose. Answering questions/problems would be a much more affective and less time consuming assignment than the types of assignments usually assigned.
Much like teachers say that they have a life during the weekend and cannot grade your papers, we should be allowed to live out a life as well. With constant pressure on me, which isn't healthy, I am not able to live out a completely happy childhood. I understand homework during the week, but the weekend should be a time for children to enjoy. Don't even get me started on summer homework...
Homework should be banned because it damages the relationship between parents and children. The child starts seeing the parent as a task master, slave driver if you will forcing them to endlessly push through mountains of homework set by teachers, this also destroys relationships between friends as get to see less and less of each other as school progresses because of the homework. Homework puts needless pressure on the child's mind at all times and builds fear of the teachers rage at not handing in homework
When you grow older kids can get more and more stressed by homework. Especially in 9th grade and older, even the smartest students would probably sleep at 11:00 or later, and with extracurricular clubs it can even be up to 12:00, which is dangerous. Studies have shown that deprivation of sleep have effect on your grades and participation in class, so technically grades are based on physical health, not academic excellence. Also, stress from pop tests and extremely hard quizzes scare students, and studying seems to them more important than the proper amount of sleep. I think a bit of hw is OK, though an hour each subject for hw is just too much.
Yes, homework should be banned because whenever you get older and you have a lot of homework sometimes you just feel like you have no time to do a lot of things. The only homework you should get is the work that you didn't get finished in class because we already have enough time at school to do your work and finish all of our stuff. Also kids get cranky I'd they can't play or go outside or stuff like that and they have to sit in their room and do more and more and more homework every night. So that's why I think homework should be banned.
A Teenager doesn't need homework. Every teacher sets about an hours work per night, here in New Zealand. That's five hours of work every night, that doesn't even count studying.
On top of that there are extra curriculum activities like sports and clubs which take up most nights and weekends. Then you have to maintain a social life, look your best, impress your parents, be the best, live up to expectations, struggling with relationships and sexuality etc. And all while your dealing with pimples and voice breaks and awkward boners.
And all that is only multiplied x2 every month towards the end of the year as exams come.
Being a Teen is hard enough without Homework on top.
We spend 8 hours in school, so why go home and do more school work. Kids have other things to do. We learn a lot in school and most of the stuff we learn we will definitely not need in life when we are older. Homework does nothing to help us and it makes our grades lower if we don't have time to do it.
Homework is not really a bad thing. It goes bad when teachers give too much of it and impose an overly short deadline. I think it should not be a major part of the grading system of schools and should be more of an exercise. Homework stresses a lot of students, especially teenagers who are already experiencing the stress of puberty. It is surprising that some teachers express negative feelings to the low grades and laziness of their students when the reason is too much homework. Homework should be limited.
Homework is graded based on a short section they learn in class, less homework makes more time to learn a subject and allow more hands on learning. Students may get something but not have time to finish it, lowering grades and moral. Less homework would amount to a better society in the world, they will be able to understand a subject thoroughly and be graded properly based upon what they know, not of what time they had at home to work on sheet of paper. Not every child has an entirely open schedule. Students above the age of fourteen can get a job in most places to earn money for their future, like college and a car. If they have to work, or something important happens while they are out of school, they may not have time to finish the assignment.
Homework should be banned because it causes, stress, counter-productivity, and it wastes time. When you know everything on the homework, why do it? And if you don't know it and you practice the wrong way repeatedly, your just going to have the wrong way lodged into your brain. It can cause stress if you have many other things to do after school, such as clubs and such. Not only that, but what if you need to complete some important things that may depend on the person.
They don't have time to just be kids anymore -- they're so bogged down. And since many of the assignments are simply busywork, learning often becomes a chore rather than a positive, constructive experience. Homework overload is also affecting family life -- a lot of kids can't even make it to dinner, and as a result, the only interaction they have with their parents involves arguments about homework. He place for our children to be doing independent work is the setting designed for such work, the schools themselves. Teachers or other adults with appropriate skills and experience should be paid to assist our children in independent projects that would advance their learning.
It is really stressful and messes up our lives. Also, what if you are a genius? If you already know the work, then why do more of it? Also, it is incredibly stressful. Teachers don't seem to realize that we don't have a lot of time after school. I think homework should only be used to catch up on school work, not for useless "Studying" and stuff.
Especially when you move to higher classes students have a lot od different classes and different homework assignments to finish. When adding all off them it takes a lot of time. Students need time for other extracurricular activities and family time. Homework could potentially be a time consuming activity for many.
Homework should definatly be banned, it stops children from spending time at home with their family and friends. It also stops them from just relaxing at home and causes stress. Children are getting less sleep every day because of the amount of homework they get. Just get rid of it.
As a student, I can say that homework is stressful. Eleven years I have been doing it. My philosophy is, schools should be able to teach the things they want without burdening kids with hours and hours of tasks to complete. How is it expected for me to be a well rounded student when a load of homework is being thrown on top of me every hour? Extra practice is fine for mastery, but educators shouldn't make it required.
If we get homework we can easily memorize things done in the class because most of the students when not given homework do not study at home and as a result forget things done in the class. So according to me homework is the best thing given by the teachers to the students to make them busy and also make them study
I swear most of the time i am stressed and 99% its because of homework. I dont want to be the typical teen who says "i hate homework its so boring and im so lazy" but its so true. And in my school they either give you little bit of homework with lots of hard parts for it or on HUGE project or assignment on top of other homework from other classes. I can not even explain how angry homework gets me. Sometimes there are group assignments and there is never a time where im not paired with the lazy people so i end up doing all the crap and i have to worry about other classes too. NO. I can not. I need a break and i hate when teachers pack the most work on weekends. LIKE EXCUSE ME ITS CALLED weekEND AS IN END OF WORK FOR ONCE. But no i have to use my only two days of rest on assignments on top of other work that im mentally crying about. Do not even get me started. I legitimately cried like two hours ago becuase all the homework i have to do. And thats not a good thing. School is supposed to be "a fun learning experience" and "learning and doing good and no stress" BUT NO I MENTALLY KILLING MYSELF (excuse the harsh language) BECAUSE OF THE HOMEWORK THAT I HAVE WHEN I SHOULD BE RELAXING AND PREPARING MYSELF FOR THE NEXT DAY I AM ENRAGED. Goodbye.
Absolutely ridiculous! Not much time to defend my thoughts, I really need to get back to the homework at hand. It is Sunday night. I should be relaxing. Wouldn't it be nice to take a camping trip? What about going to a football game? No time in this house! We did allow one hour for Sunday School, but failed to stay the worship hour afterward. Sorry I have to run, but it is 8pm on Sunday night, we will be up till at least 10. Tomorrow will bring another 5 hours... Each!
The Finns, the top ranked country for education, rarely assign homework. They focus more on creativity and equality than test scores and excellence, and believe learning is in the classroom. They also hardly give out test, and when they do, the teachers write the whole thing. They give lots of free time to the students.
They use the most laid back, lazy, hippie way of teaching, and it totally works.
Its just adding lots of stress to the student and the teacher, both, for no clear reason. The student has literally no time for relaxing, and the teacher gets extra work to mark. It is most annoying when you get homework on the weekend and holidays, though, because those are meant for relaxing and having a break. Homework really should be banned.
Being a student I have realized that we children waste a lot of time on doing homework and we don't get time for self study or to revise work done in school. When we don't get time to revise our syllabus we forget the things we have been taught in school and therefore we get panic before the day of exam .So my suggestion is for banning of homework so the students get time for self study entertainment and physical games.
No one benefits from homework and we spend enough time at school anyway, if people want a career path that involves a lot of studying or assignments they should do it at their own will, if they really want the career they will work for it. For people like me it is a hassle and I find it hard to find the time
Now I know sure homework is important. But shouldn't students get a break from school? Ever? I mean you're in school for 8 hours doing work. 70 minutes each class, haven't you had enough of that subject for a day? Students want to do things outside of school but sometimes there is just too much homework. They are already using 8 hours for learning, does there need to be more hours after school? I don't think so! Sure maybe this would mean doing more things during class time, OKAY! Atleast we can have "after school" to do things "after school" rather than do school.
I go to school eight hours a day and I'm fine with it even though it is a very long time. But when you get about 1 hour for each subject it is was too much, I'm sure even some teachers will agree with me! Home work should be banned!!! You come home from a long day of school and then you have to be doing more of it until you have to go to bed! That is outrageous, no free time whatsoever especially on the weekend! People could have better things to do the frustrating their mind with trying to finish the whole math book. Even if they ban homework they could at least ban math homework. Don't you agree? If you don't, why? I mean homework is good for you just not excessive amounts.
Homework should be banned because it is putting too much stress on children. It also takes up too much of students time and they have no time to be children. And now the schools want to give kids homework on the weekends too. C'mon! I mean you dont want to drown kids with work. They do work in school 6 hours a day 5 days a week give them a break.
Students sometimes do not have time to complete homework assignments at home because they don't have enough support(help) from their parents to sit down and complete it. I'm talking about Middle school and High school homework. This assignments are more difficult. Sometimes students did not understand the lesson and teacher still sent them home with the homework assignment and than the student comes back the next day with no completed homework and of course the teacher will most defnetlly get a 0 (no points) for that assignment and teachers assume that that assignment wasn't done because the student chose not to do it but really it was because it was not understood and had no help doing it. Another possible excuse can be that some students are busy after school and staying up too late to do homework is not healthy when they have to wake up at 6 or 7 am in the morning, also because sometimes the student comes home exhausted from being at school all day.
Homework should be banned because it can cost you a lot of time and it can make you stress. And mostly homework waste papers, electricity, paints. If we don't have homework we can find our talents outside the school. Usually homework cost you more than 6 hours a day. And mostly our homework submitted on one day or given just one day.
Well, I will explain you the link. Homework --> Stress --> Time off Childhood --> Suicide Attempts --> Losing a student --> Sad Teacher
Teachers who are reading this, if you want to lose one of your students, you will be utterly sad. Do you REALLY want to be sad?
When I was in high school I got 6 hours or more of homework a day. This really affected me I either could do my homework or sleep. I had no social life and woke up every day tired as heck. I think at most we should get 3 hours of homework, any more and you are hurting the child.
I think homework should be banned because it is really stressful and contributes to depression and suicide. It is also stupid because you can be tested at school and in summer school. I myself am a student, and this is my opinion about homework. I really hope you will see this and consider it.
I think it should be banned because I think it is not fair to do schoolwork out of school. You should just give us more practice papers in school and give choices if we want to do it in school or at home. Not require it to be done at school.
Yes: because no kid on earth wants to be bombed by the amount of homework their teachers give them EVERY single day. I mean its like labor without pay. We go to school 8 hours a day and do class work, inst that enough? We are constantly working harder than most of our parents with the constant use of brain exercises, problem solving, and remembering stuffs.
No: because I have to openly and honestly admit that homework which I would prefer class work really does help me determine my range of knowledge.
I’m a 17-year-old junior, always excelled in my classes. My peers have observed this and used to think that I just skate by, not doing any work; that was not the case. The truth is, I worked like a boss every blasted day of school (now up to 12 hours a day or 14 hours on each of the weekend days) to get the grade I had, but I was one of those people who never had time to get out much or do anything fun; I would come home, sit down, do my homework until dinner, and pick it back up for another few hours. By that time, it was around 10 PM; that's when I was in eighth grade! Now, my normal activities include: singing with two choirs, requiring both group practice and my practice; helping other students learn; trying to build a lasting relationship with my family; hanging out with my friends right now, making memories I can look back on after we’ve all moved on in a couple of years. At the very pinnacle of my workload, I'm trying to figure out who I really am and what I want to be, so that I can go through life later on with certainty, instead of roaming around, trying to decide where I want to go to college or where to settle down, how I feel about love, friendship, spirituality, and growth. None of this is very easy for me to do. I don't need to be spending as much time as I do doing the piles of homework that my teachers shove onto my shoulders. I have other things to worry about. All of you who think it's simply a problem of doing the work assigned to you, I have been doing exactly that for over ten years! I am beginning to reach the ends of my ability to perform what has become an overly time-consuming chore that is detrimental to my health. I used to enjoy school! Over the course of the past 5 years, my enthusiasm has waned. Learning is no longer fun for me; I despise school, being altered to more closely resemble a torture chamber than a house of learning or growth. I hope that this issue will become resolved soon, or America may slide even further down the tubes.
Children wake up at the crack of dawn to go to school for 6 and a half hours, and then sit down and think "Finally! I can rest!" then their mum/dad comes and says, Son/Daughter, do your homework before XBox! Then the poor child does 2 hours of homework. That adds up to over 8 hours, more than an average adults day at work in Australia.
Homework does not help. Kids do homework just because they have to. They are not learning from it. The teachers job is to teach you what you need to know. Of course you should study for exams/tests/quizzes, but not to the point where you are stressing over it. You should not have homework that has NOTHING to do with what you are studying in class!
Homework is just a review of what he students learn in school. Our kids go to school for 7 or 8 hours and then come home and stay up most of the night doing homework just to go to school again the next day. This give children little freedom and minimum time to explore other areas of interest, it is very hard now a days for kids to play sports or do extra curricular. Yes, our kids need to learn to manage their time but what we are asking is unreasonable at this point. Our kids should learn in school and be able to come home and be worry free and able to explore other areas and try new things instead of doing more school work all night just to do the same thing the next day.
I don't like homework because it is very confusing. I don't think that children should be made to do homework. Increasing amounts of homework are making kids not want to go to school, for there is only more homework waiting for them. It makes our family get upset with each other.
Adding an extra hour of school to just finish of this work would help everyone! Doing the work children would usually do at home in this extra hour would decrease stress, late nights and rushing at home. Adding an extra hour at school also gives teachers more time to mark work they would usually do at home.
Homework is entirely ineffective at it's intended purpose, being to reinforce the subject taught. Home assignments are generally aimed at making students study. However this forces students to review the work in a predetermined manner rather than find what works for them. Additionally homework forces students to spend time on subjects they may already have extensive knowledge in. At this point some may protest homework allows a manner in which to grade students. However testing provides a far more effective option, in that students may display knowledge, which they have been able to learn in their own way. Students being unable to pass tests would show a deficiency in the teacher or the learning of the student, neither of which homework presents a solution to.
The school where I go to, gives you literally 7 hours of homework and it's all due tomorrow. This isn't even a joke, I haven't had sleep for days, and I am exhausted to the point of my breaking point. It is tiring, and i can bet that many other students that go to my school would feel this way. Well, I better go, I have thirty (literally) paragraphs to write. AND I don't procastinate.
I used to play a sport and quit it because I was afraid I would fail my classes because of homework. It such an overload. I mean don't tell me that America needs more educated kids because the way they are doing it is so wrong. Some young kids are expected to write essay when I learned how to write one in 4th grade and still have a troubled time because there explanation is so weird.
Home work for the majority of students is an anxiety producing means of intimidation which serves as an impediment to learning as a meaningful personal pursuit. Rather than promoting a lover of learning it chiefly serves the cultural function of conditioning children to a future of working class drudgery and tawdry consumerist based entertainment.
Today I came home from swimming at 6:45, having left for it at 3:30. I then had to do 3 Mathsmate sheets(1 1/2 hours), 4 Online Maths sessions (40mins), and research for a persuasive speech (1 3/4 hour). All given to me today, due tomorrow. Also, often its the parents problem as the teachers don't give you homework that practices what you do in class. If anything, they expect the homework to explain it for you, (which it does not) and will often neglect teaching it in class for that reason.
All homework does is put worry and panic into the minds of every student. Deadlines are the most troublesome especially if the assigned student has a job that is just as strict. Homework is what causes nightmares to those who don't even have school yet, and yet they suddenly dream about being in school and being asked the question "did you do your homework" even if there was no such homework to begin with.
Should a student learn outside of home, they should study in their spare time, not force in time for mandatory homework during their laboring times. A student should sleep happy, not worry over work in school, and homework negates that sleep most to all of the time. Homework is not healthy, homework is not happy, and homework is not helping. Ban it.
I would perfer more time at school rather than homework. I imagine it as this - at school I learn, at home I rest. But homework is invading my free time, also I always have to worry about it because if I forget it well... Then bad things are going to happen. And as most people know stress is bad for you in more ways than one.
It is not fair for teachers to send home homework. We work hard enough in school!! Why do we have to at home? Plus lots of kids have after school activities, and don't get home till late. With homework they don't go to bed till late, And are even more exhausted the next day!
Simply put, I can not afford as a high school student to stay up until 1 a.M. You would think that our teachers would realize how much they are assigning us. A student's physical and mental health should take priority over busy work. Sleep deprivation doesn't exactly help with learning lessons by yourself because you teacher literally does not do lectures in class.
Most homework given by schools nowadays does not teach anything. It just asks you questions and makes you waste your time writing answers to those questions. You feel pressured to come up with an answer for every question. You feel like you are being interrogated. There is no way to know whether your answer is right or wrong when you are doing your homework. Therefore, you do not learn anything. It keeps kids busy instead of teaching them. Also, most kids could easily look up something they do not understand well online if they want to learn about it.
Homework is good but all it is, is learning the same exact thing you did again. If homework is the same as school work then students will take longer because they get bored easier. Students spend most of their day after school dedicated to homework that by the time they finish its time to get ready for the next day of school. Homework is too much to have especially when you live in a struggling family and all you have is about an hour or so after doing chores and things.
Although homework can be good in many ways, it is also bad in my opinion. For students who live in poverty or in low income it becomes hard to finish or even start "homework" because most likely these students tend to help their parents out or do jobs. I wish to write more but I'm too tired too, sorry.
It's annoying and too much I hate how teachers feel the need to give us extra homework just cause they know we have extra time to waste during holidays. Come on! It's called a break for a reason so give us a break. Homework is useless anyway it's the same thing I already learned and doesn't help me learn anything new
I'm in my second last year of high school and the amount of homework that is being piled onto students is ridiculous. Coupled with extra-curricular activities, work commitments, studying for exams and assessments, the amount of students who are becoming physically ill, overly stressed or extremely anxious is ridiculous. Much of this stress and anxiety could be abolished if we took homework out of the equation.
Homework should be banned because it can put a TON or stress on the person with homework. All homework does is invade our homes. Think about it, you come home from a long and exhausting day at school and all you want to do is plop down on the couch and watch some TV or play some games or even hang out with friends or family. But, you remember you have homework. Home is supposed to be the place you come to take a break from school and NOT continues the school day. Some teachers assign SO much homework that kids don,t get enough sleep and then their grades start to drop or they act up. This is another reason why homework should be banned. We get at least 6 hours of school to learn. When kids are staying up all night the night before a test because they are doing homework for another class (if you have block schedule like me) and the next morning they FLUNK the test, then they get yelled at by their parents and that starts a big argument in the family because the kid starts talking back because he's already tired and exhausted, AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF, the kid STILL has homework to do. This creates a TON of stress on the kids and teenagers because they have to juggle homework, tests, and a social life. Well, this all I am putting for now. Thanks for reading my article. -Bryan Norton
I am a student myself in year 9 and i have found that homework creates a massive amount of pointless and unnecessary pressure on the student.
When a kid goes to school they get 7 full hours to learn, so why do teachers find it necessary to bombard there student with useless work?
When a student goes home they go to to the other activities such as sports or art but when they get homework they feel as they can never have a break, destroying their enthusiasm for school damaging their ability to learn.
To me homework is just a lame excuse for teachers to flog of work not done in class.
I hate how teachers feel the need to give us extra homework just cause they know we have extra time to waste during holidays. Come on! It's called a break for a reason so give us a break. Homework is useless anyway it's the same thing I already learned and doesn't help me learn anything new
In regards to homework, it is meant to be practice, but in this time, it's become more. Homework has become an all encompassing thing for many people ranging anywhere between 2-12 hours of time. Now we have to do the math here. A student generally attends school for about 7 hours in the morning, then afterwords attends extra-curricular activities until around 6:30pm. Now in regards to homework load, we see that the earliest a student with extra-curricular activities may rest is, considering they eat dinner, between 9pm & 10pm. Yet, at most, they may not get an ounce of sleep whatsoever, in which they spend the entire night working as well as morning. Now, when can they study, when can they sleep? That's the point I'm trying to make, they can't. In order to operate like a healthy human-being we require sleep. In order to retain knowledge, we need sleep. In order to live, we need sleep. Excessive amounts of homework has impacted sleep in which anxiety and depression sets in. The top amount of teen deaths is due to suicide, suicide in regards to the pressure put on them by the world we live in today. They need a break, they are our children, can we not see that 'we' as society are killing them? I understand the term 'life isn't easy' but this is ridiculous. They need to enjoy learning, they need to be healthy both physically as well as mentally, and they need our support. I've seen it for myself as well as lived it. We need to spend more time working together in the classroom rather than at home, I honestly don't care if there's more school days in a year, but the homework is what's killing this kids. There is no 'I' in team, so why should our kids be expected to this all on their own. They need us, they need the support of their peers. All in all, I ask that homework be banned, because in the world today it's gotten to a point where there is no social life for some, there is no 'fun' only an aching back, an aching hand, tired eyes, and headaches. Think about it, and hopefully you'll see that there truly does need to be change. Thank you for your time, sincerely a high school student who works between 4-12 hours a night on homework with an immuno-deficiency induced by constant hypertension, due to anxiety, due to insomnia, due to excessive school work as well as trying to find time to study.
Without their private life, students will start becoming more anti-social. We should not be forced to work 12 years of our lives day and night without breaks. Homework is now being assigned for every second of free time a student has. This is destroying the focus and attention that students need to have at school because they are staying up all night doing it.
My typical week day goes like this: School 7:45-2:36, work 4-9, get home by 9:30 have to take care of my dog and my own personal hygiene then I think about homework. Also I am in my school's ambassador club and National Honor Society and the meetings for both of these clubs are in the early morning before school. Almost every high school student is in some form of extra curricular activity, whether it is sports, clubs, work or all three, we do not have time to even think about doing homework. I am a straight A student and I am good at managing my time but homework cuts into my sleep and relaxing time. The first second I get to myself to relax I am not thinking about homework. I only get about 6 hours of sleep every night and lately it is hard to find time for a social life. Homework should most certainly be banned, no student has time for it, also our class periods are 70 minutes long, teaching and assignments should be able to get done in that amount of time other wise the teacher is not explaining things well enough. Kids need time to be kids before they have to go into the real world of working and no summers. Everyone wants to be in a club or on a sports team, we all want to have a memorable high school experience, homework should be taken out of our schedules so that kids can have lower stress and enjoy high school. We are already at school for 7 hours, that should be enough each day.
The amount of homework we get daily is incredible. You have to choose between your own health, sleep, fun, and grades. If you want good grades, you don't sleep/exercise/relax enough. And if you do those things, you can't finish homework. If all teachers were able to teach the material well, we wouldn't even need homework to understand.
Sometimes people have so much homework, and because of that most people stay up all night doing homework, and then they are very tired to pay attention in class. Homework is very boring and the only reason I like summer is because there is no homework. So HOMEWORK SHOULD BE BANNED!!!!!!!
I love learning, don't get me wrong. But educating yourself deserves to be fun, and if it isn't, then you don't actually learn anything, rather finish the job just for the sake of it. Research shows that homework is increasing in many areas of the world. You should be able to learn when you want to, homework should at least be banned for the upper years of education. As a young adult, you need to have responsibility for yourself, in preparation for lessons and for the future.
Half the students from my school have said they cant concentrate in class because they stayed up the night before to finish homework. They fight to stay awake. Some students don't have internet at home and cannot research stuff up for their assignment's and then fail because their parents cant afford internet .
I think these because it very stressful. I have a study showing that kids don't need to do homework. Yes i agree that some kids want or need the extra work, but if we do more than necessary than it gets in the way and we as kids don't want to learn more. Trust me I love to learn is my favorite thing to do, but to much will get me bored and then i don't want to learn that much any more. I sometimes have to go to bed at nine or ten just finishing my homework i started hours ago because its so much. When i get to school its less stressful because i have everything done and i just learn why cant that be at home too. It would make sense if you only did the work that you didn't finish in class. I wake up early to finish my homework and i have to get ready and then i have to go to sleep late because i'm still doing my homework. So my point is that we as kids don't get enough sleep and we are stressed out. We are kids our job is to have fun and be kids not be stressed out and tired zombies.
As an all-honors freshman, I feel as if homework and at home assignments cause me a lot more stress than the work actually done in school. When I get home I just want to relax and rest so I'll be ready and refreshed for the next day of school. However, with all of the activities I've forced myself into in order to get a good education after high school, I never get a good amount of sleep. In order to get the amount of sleep required for a healthy teen, I would have to go to bed at 10pm; however, I always end up struggling to stay awake trying to finish mountains of homework in the early hours of the morning. Even if homework can't be cut out completely, there should be less of it as I've basically turned into a walking zombie who nearly falls asleep in class every day. There needs to be some kind of change to this, and it starts at the hands of the students who are being given work in quantities that is practically impossible for us to handle. Homework has turned me into an insomniac zombie and my grades are slowly slipping due to the stress and I promise I'm trying my hardest but it just doesn't seem to be working. It's hard to fully function in lessons when you're losing sleep due to the homework given out by those teachers themselves.
Right now, I am stuck with these stupid assignments every day that authorities keep coercing me into completing. They use intimidation tactics to coerce us into working on these stupid assignments. It is tyranny in a school. We should not accept this and be so fearfully submissive. We need courage. There are far more of us than those teachers and other authorities in the school. Let's unite as one to abolish homework. We will start campaigns, protest and use civil disobedience by never doing our homework.
Hello. I am an Eleven Year old child. And let me point this out right now- Homework is extremely dreadful. As if wasting Seven Hours in a Dictatorship is not enough, the prison has to follow us home. The only place where we have free time is constantly bombarded by this pointless and corrupted idea. So this is my schedule: Wake up very early, Spend 7 hours in a mental aslyum, come home, expecting a break, but then 5+ Hours of homework. By the time I am finished I have to go to bed. This is plain idiotic. Who wants to do this? Not me. Not anyone.
Let's look at the average high schooler's school day. Let's say that approximately 5 out of about 7 classes has assigned homework. If school gets out at approximately 3, and each homework takes about 30 minutes, that is two and a half hours of homework. And that's the bare minimum. Let's not forget that most are involved in an after school program. What about the kids on the sports teams? If they practice 2 hours a night, that means they are up until at least 8 JUST doing homework. Most people will have more. Some up to 5 hours, including studying and projects. A short quick assignment to reinforce the lesson is fine, but busywork is tedious and boring. And if school starts at 7 and the child wakes up at 6, to get the recommended 8 hours of sleep, they would have to go to bed at 10.
Many of the problems are that the lesson was not helpful for the homework, and the homework itself is pointless.
I am very reluctant to start yet another cycle of this unpaid child labor. People complain about child labor in other parts of the world. Few seem to realize that homework is the most common form of child labor globally and children do not even get paid for it! At least in every other instance of child labor, kids get paid for the work. As little as their payment may be, they still get some money for it. Whereas, kids coerced into doing homework do not receive payment for it in any way. Authorities use methods of intimidation to get it done. It is literally the biggest nuisance of my life because I am forced to do these assigned tasks every day of my childhood life.
Homework is pointless labor authorities get kids to do through means of coercion and intimidation in schools. It does not teach kids anything and they do not have the courage to object to it. It is like totalitarianism in the governments in other countries. Right now, I am stuck with some stupid assignments that I have been ordered to complete. I know it will not provide any benefits for me, but I am helpless and defenseless like all the other kids being. We should all unite as one to abolish homework and raise awareness about this horrific practice.
Kids in my classes end up getting worse grades than average because the teacher doesn't explain the lesson enough, because it takes up 15 minutes to check the homework, where we could be explaining the lesson out so kids don't end up dumbfounded and getting bad grades on tests and quizzes. Also, it stresses kids out to the point where some just want to cheat and pretend to be sick to get another day. Homework is creating liars out of us, and making our grades horrible. In fact, statistics show that one school did ban homework in the USA and student grades improved by nearly 80% not to mention most homework is just busy work..
Homework sucks it keeps you away from family, it stresses you out, it stresses the teacher out, it keeps us both away from our families, we are in charge of what we do in our house, sometimes we don't have time and then we get in trouble for not having it because we didn't have time! Homework also doesn't help some of us because we are smart so then we are just wasting time! Those are my reasons, thank you and good night!!!!!!!
We have other better things to do than to sit at the desk and do homework all day. We can exercise, play with pets, more time on social websites, family time, learn a new instrument, etc. I believe that people don't want lots and lots of homework due because I have had that feeling before. There is so much homework thats going to be due and it makes me stressed and have a temper. And I rather be playing around or doing other stuff then do homework.
Homework does not make any sense at all. You do homework at home. You own your own house and you control your own home. You are paying for your house so you should be able to decide what to do at your house. Schools should not be assigning pointless homework. You are forcing to do something at your own house. See how stupid it is.
I'm a freshmen at a highschool, and I have 5 - 10 hours of homework every single night, and my weekends are consumed with homework. I literally have no free time what so-ever. I recognize that homework can be helpful to learning (Especially in math, which I hate) but giving tons and tons of homework to students is putting way to much stress on their shoulders.
Yes, because it just causes stress and most of homework doesn't teach anything of homework. Hi, I'm a student at Bossley park high school who gets homework alot and most of the homework i get is really pointless in a few ways. One, because it doesn't really help or teach anything, and two, it will never be used in the future, three, For me they never teach me new strategies, and last, number four it just causes stress and is a waste of time, 6 hours at school is enough. We are only kids we should'nt be spending most of our day doing stressful homework, we should be hanging out with friends and family more doing fun stuff, I bet playing and hanging out will teach us more. Thank you for reading ;)
I often get homework that is of no use to my learning, and I find completely and utterly useless. We are meant to be learning things that set us up for life - not wasting time on work that we learnt 3 weeks ago at home! The stress at times is unbearable, and some teachers aren't the slightest bit easy to approach about your problems.
In most cases when people leave their job they are done with their job for the day. People don't go home and work on their job for two more hours. Why should students go home and work on their job for two more hours. Teachers have to go home and grade papers for two more hours. Home work is a lose lose situation. LOL ;)
I'm a ninth grader and I already have 4 hours MINIMUM of homework per night. It puts stress on me and my friends that frankly is not needed when we are already stressed in class with various quizzes and tests. Not to mention that we stay up late completing it and fail to focus in class and then get in trouble because we can't concentrate because we're so tired.
Don't get me wrong, homework is terrible for us. We do work we possibly already know how to do, so it's a waste of life. It has been proven that it is not helping with grades whatsoever. Then, we get in trouble for not doing it because you didn't know how, and your parents don't get it either. When children are punished for not getting answers right, they feel stupid, and their self esteem goes down a well. Then, they do even worse on homework. Don't children learn enough in school. We work hard at school, give us a break!
Most teachers who give out a lot of homework are usually the lazy ones. Whenever students don't have their homework ready, the teachers blame them. Also homework causes a lot of stress and it even causes depression. A lot of students lack a lot of sleep too just to get homework done. Teachers and schools are forgetting that students are still kids. Let them enjoy life. They are not adults yet. Let them enjoy their childhood while it lasts. Plus, students have a life outside of school. There are plenty that deal with family issues and other personal problems. Aren't teachers supposed to help them instead of letting them down? It's sickening how thoughtless people are these days.
Why do we get homework when we already have loads of work at school already. Isn't that enough? What's the point sending homework home when you're just going to learn about things you already learnt at school. Homework is stressful and a waste of time! Life would be much better if there was no homework. Ruined my childhood.
Homework should be banned from school its time wasting no good and think what you could do in all the time u wasted in homework you could be having fun with your friends or riding bikes ive wasted alot of my life is school and they send it home with you now they sould teech it all in school instead of sending it home with you by brandon a. Powell
Teenagers spend all day at school learning. Then we come home to do a lot more learning. The amount of time we spend doing homework seriously takes away much needed down time. It's no wonder teenagers are always so stressed. Teenagers should spend a little longer at school during the day but homework should be banned.
The amount of homework given to students is ridiculous. You go to school to learn, you shouldn't be expected to overload your backpack with even more work. And they wonder why children and teenagers come in to school falling asleep in their class... Maybe if they weren't given so much damn homework to do as soon as they got home every.. Single.. Day.. There'd be less problems, and they'd learn a lot better. However, it could also be dropped down to minimal amounts of homework (like one page) or even get them to do some sort of activity rather than writing, writing, writing. It'd probably result in a lot happier students.
Kids are too focused on their homework to talk or bond with their parents. Homework can distance a kid and their family. Family time is important to a growing kid, without family time kids can have social problems. All parents have educational agendas for their children. They want to pass on their cultural heritage, religious beliefs, and important life skills. They want to teach their children how to be good citizens and how to share in the responsibilities of running a home. More homework makes parents put their own agendas on hold even as they often struggle to help their children cope with homework assignments.
Homework is a waste of time, space, and it stresses most people out. There is no time to be spent with family or in peace without having to worry about homework. Despite having homework since primary school I feel I have NOT benefited from masses of homework.
We wouldn't need homework if the teachers taught us properly in the first place. Id rather have a longer lesson than have to do two hours of homework a night.
Homework can be helpful to those who needs more practice in order to measure a subject; however, homework can also serve as a training wheel for students to learn and prevent them from learning time management skills necessary for courses in high school and especially college. In college, homework is never given out daily, a particular subject is to be studied and memorized by oneself and notes are not always printed in textbooks and worksheet but instead have to be hand copied from lectures and power points. In addition, homework may cause unnecessary stress in some individuals. Too much stress may have negative effects on a person and the effects may be more severe in developing young adults, possibly effecting their long term health.
Homework is good but mostly it can be bad. On vacations, you still have a bunch of homework to do but no playtime. Especially middle school which I am in now. Homework is just too stressful and it is confusing for people. Suppose you don't know the answer to a question. Who will you ask. You ask your parents and what if they don't know. What are you supposed to do? And as you get older you get more and more HOMEWORK. And too much of it.
Like everyone says, absolutely no time to have a life. Aka hang out with siblings, exercise, sleep, heaven forbid watch a tv show. I have school and a job. I barely have time for those much less homework. I would love school if it was just going to class to learn. And I would pay attention. I get bad grades and then get depressed. Too much.
I hate homework. Homework has ruined my childhood. I am so desperate for homework to be finally banned. I have always longed for a day, just one freaking day without this stupid work. It is a burden for everyone and I would be so much less depressed if not for this stupid homework. Please just vote yes, everyone!
Homework is child labor unless it involves studying which I do not consider to be actual "homework." All other homework is basically no different from child labor. What is the difference? In fact, children who do homework do not even get payment for it unlike most other forms of child labor which occur around the world. Many people argue that homework helps kids learn, but I have never realized how homework could possibly help kids learn unless the homework is studying. Filling out worksheets is usually what this "homework" actually is. How do you think that could possibly help anyone? Kids only do it as a result of coercion by schools.
Usually homework provides absolutely no benefits whatsoever unless your homework is just to study which is highly unlikely. The only kind of assignment I think of that would actually "teach" a student is maybe studying or research. Other than that, all other homework is completely unnecessary and stressful. People should not be coerced into doing unnecessary work just to occupy their time at home.
My daughter receives straight A's in her reports every term, she is in high school, spends at least 3 hours every school night doing homework and she stresses out and says that it does not help her understand the topics any better. Every student has a different attitude towards learning and some may excel in their studies while others wont. However, if you ask a group of students of their opinion towards receiving homework on a daily basis, their answers will most likely be that they would be better off without homework. I know for a fact that most teachers give out homework that is irrelevant, time consuming and 40% of the time, it is not marked. Students also have a life outside school, and for those who have responsibilities such as looking after a disabled family member, working a casual job to financially support the family or do not have a healthy mental state of mind will find it extremely difficult to balance school life, family life and their social life all at once.In conclusion, I would like to say that homework is okay when there is little but once it causes a student to devote 70% of their time after school doing something that gets them no where, then this matter should be reconsidered and altered so that Australian students can have a happier time out of school without worrying about their homework.
I am only in 7th grade, and today I have like 5 projects due and not to mention 3 homework assignments?I had family to hang out with and now I am stressing about how I'm going to keep my grade up. Homework simply drifts kids away from a stress free environment.
You can't put all of this stress on kids! When you finish school, it is time to relax and do what you want for a change but NOOO... Kids have to spend all their entire night doing this pointless stuff. I am in 6th grade and I have 5+ hours of homework every night I can never spend time with my family. I am so stressed and tired make the torture stop plz. I never get to do anything fun its all just work work and more DUMB WORK
I am up to about 10pm every night doing piles of homework, and doing projects over the weekend. I havent gotten to do what I want for the past 3 weeks now at all. I've been stuck in my room wit headaches spending half my life on homework. UGH. I hate it
There's not enough time in the day. I can't be in any clubs or do anything I want to do. I want to be an art therapist, but there's no time to do any art, not even as a class as I need a study hall to be able to finish the ridiculous amount of homework I have to do!
Some people cant afford internet to research things up. They can go to the library but there's a time that the library closes and people might not be able to finish their homework. Some people can't afford supplies for projects because the school doesn't provide them with any to take home. They could finish it at school if homework was banned.
First of all, paper comes from trees. Now every day we have to kill more trees for homework. Soon enough, homework will kill the majority of trees for paper along with all the other demanding products, and BOOM! We have to list trees as 'endangered'.
Second, it wastes time. I get 2 hours less sleep then usual every night because of it... Giving me a horrible temper and a stressed, tired look on my face all the time. Also, it wastes all other time to sit back, relax, and ease down before another dreadful morning. Are schools trying to drain us of our happiness?
Last of all, homework doesn't even help with studies. Do these problems, write this paragraph, do this, do that. We don't need more work to do at home! Though some homework may be acceptable ( studying, doing classwork that hasn't been finished) most of it is writing paragraphs about what you learned and more math problems to do. School is for teaching, not a stupid book or worksheet. It just makes us feel stressed and bored, doing more work while not really getting educational value, and we have to do it or else we get a bad grade. We don't care about more work, we've spent 8 hours at school, so we just scribble around until we're done and go to bed. Homework needs to be banned... I've been falling asleep after midnight ever since I hit Middle School.
SO GET RID OF THIS TORTURE!
I'm 16 years old and I get that it's preparing us for harder work in the future but it is too over whelming. I start school at 7:30 in the morning and come out at 4:00, as soon as I get out I go straight to my after-school job. I get ton's of homework everyday including weekend hw which takes me about 5 hours or more to complete it all. I never have time to hang out with my family or friends or do anything fun. I don't mind getting homework at all, I really love school but I am still a teenager and need to be able to have a social life.
I do sports six days a week and I never have time on the week days or the weekends for family, friends, or rest. I am usually up until 10:00 every night trying to get my homework done, but my brain just doesn't work well enough that late at night. I am also wasting valuable sleep time because I have to get up at 6:15 every morning. This affects my performance as a student and my attitude as a person.
I do sports six days a week every year and I never have time on the weekends for family, friends or rest. I am usually up until 10:00 every night trying to get homework done, but my brain just doesn't work well enough that late. When I'm up that late, I am wasting valuable sleep time because I have to get up at 6:15 every morning and it affects my performance as a student.
When we have to stay home to finish our homework, we have no time to play football which will lead to unhealthy body. When we have unhealthy body, we'll get sick, we won't be able to read books and enjoy ourselves if we are sick. Therefore homework should be banned altogether.
In younger children, homework does not help them a lot. Having 3 hours of homework in middle school combined with extra studying, sports, and getting a goodnight sleep while still being able to talk to friends is almost impossible. It stresses kids out. When the school day ends, so should the work. I'm done with homework!
Most students who go to school wake up at six and get home around four, and any student who is involved in sports or clubs gets home around 6 or 7. With six or seven classes each day at my school and about five of those teachers assigning homework that's about four or more hours of homework each night. And on top of that they expect us to have a full 8 hours asleep, which is not possible. There are not enough hours in the day. So students who don't do homework get stressed out for bad grades, and those who do homework get stressed out from not having enough time to do anything else. It's a nonstop cycle.
If the teacher is good enough to keep all his students focused and awake, he would not really need homework. Homework might help the students, but some teachers do not think right. They would believe that their class is the only class which gives homework and they would overload their students with work. This does NOT help the student unless he/she actually likes the subject a lot.
The concept of homework is to give students practice to reinforce what they learned in class. While the concept is logical, it only helps to a point. When homework starts reaching 4 to 5 hours a night, it starts sucking up valuable time that could be used in activities that people feel more passionate about. After going through several comments against banning homework, I noticed there was a common misconception: banning homework is attributed to laziness.
To be succinct, it's not. Let me explain: I am currently a high school sophomore taking honors and AP classes. I am also in 3 different bands, made the varsity swim team my freshman year, and I swim competitively year-round for an aquatics club. From firsthand experience I can tell you that it is extremely difficult to balance a 4.3 GPA, 2 hours of swim practice, jazz band, marching band, symphonic band, volunteering, club activities, 3+ hours of homework a night, and studying for major tests. With so much to juggle, I have never gotten the full 7 hours of sleep since summer break. I go to bed at 2 am or later, and because of this lack of sleep, it is so hard to process and retain new information you learn in class the next day. I heard it gets worse in college so by that time, I will be a fully-fledged zombie. So I have one question to those who believe homework should not be banned: Do you think it's worth it to spend so much time laboring on homework when you can be pursuing other activities and interests that you are more passionate about?
Now don't get me wrong, I don't think we should completely ban homework. I think that homework should be optional, especially in high school. That way, our future is in our own hands. We can decide for ourselves whether or not it's worth it to get homework credit for the day. Now we can take the initiative to improve ourselves through extra practice, if we feel the need to. Now we can take our own notes that best fits out learning style. I feel that this way, we carry more responsibility and independence, two skills we need to master to succeed later in life.
The stress students face is insane they spend almost 7 hours a day at school and then have to come home and do 3 to 4 hours of homework and projects. Not to mention the student athletes who can spend 10 or more hours a day at school and are still expected to complete the homework and then receive a grade on the homework. The load is over working the students. It is to stressful. Homework does not just cause stress. It affects the students mentally by over working them after spending a whole day at school. It affects a student physically, instead of doing something to keep there bodies in shape homework is the number one priority it can also cause students not to play sports at school. Homework affects students socially, instead of being social and doing things the student enjoys at night they are suck doing homework and stressing for the next day if they don't completely finish it. 7 hours a day should be enough to teach a curriculum. Students hate school and the main reason is the homework if they could come home and enjoy themselves and not be constantly stressed there performance and happiness would rise. You only get childhood once. Why should it be ruined by something that really has not long term benefits.
I think homework should be banned because it cause kids to stress out and drop out of school because it is very stressful when they get home work every day and sometimes they get homework when they are already trying to finish homework. Also kids get to much homework all at once and it is hard for them to finish the home work they are on.
Once that final bell of school rings the last thing i want to think about is home work. The final bell should be a release from the stress and hardship of school. High school students already have enough stress as it is applying for colleges and sports, adding homework to that only causes extra stress that students shouldn't be punished with.
Hi, I am a 7th grader. I have good grades and am exceptionally fast at completing homework. But i am stuck with too much to do every night! I get home at 3:30 and i am doing it until 8:00-9:00 every night. I think that i speak for every kid who has a soul in school by saying that homework takes up too much of our time in life when we could be hanging out with our friends and get to play sports at least. Besides, a recent study says that most homework doesn't even help you in school and only math helps you a little bit to get better at the subject. Because i want to actually have a life outside of school and hang out with my friends and play some more sports. But I cant because i am stuck in my room under my parents rule that i cant come out until my homework is completed, which is almost never because i have 10 pages at minimum every night! I wish that homework would be banned because i just wanna have some fun in life. Isn't that what a kid should have before college and their life is run by what feels like being a robot? Answer that, educators, i would be amazed if you had a real response
They should ban homework because its getting kids stressed out that they are gonna fail a test or something like that, and teachers give way to much homework, kids cant hold so much stuff its not healthy, plus kids are getting into to much trouble for not doing their homework. You cant expect kids to do all that homework in one night/day it depends how long the teachers give them.
Homework is a ridiculous, unneccesary waste of time. As a parent and former student, I see no benefit to loading up already tired and stressed out kids with schoolwork to be done at home. Home is family time, a time for children to relax and unwind. Expecting themhttp://theoatmeal.Com/comics/running to work in school, than take on another shift at home, on top of their other responsibilities is cruel and unfair.. If children want to do schoolwork at home, fine. But the key word is want. It should be optional, in my opinion. Light reading, the occasional project and studying for tests should be the only homework students are required to do.
After attending high school, I realized the importance of homework. Homework enforces what you learn in school and allows your brain to practice these concepts so you can apply them to real life or exams. However, I feel that some teachers and classes assign excess work or "busy work" that might not necessarily benefit the students. Also, a major flaw in the education system in America is that students are learning not for increased intelligence but for acceptance to college. Students are constantly driven to insanity as they are lectured to memorize endless terms of vocabulary, facts, and math concepts so that they can ace the SAT or get A's in their classes. Students don't actually use the knowledge that they obtain in school to situations that they might encounter in their lives. In today's society, all nighters are often pulled so that students can remember information for a temporary time in order to achieve a high grade. This provides no benefit whatsoever. A student possessing high grades does not necessarily indicate that the student is retaining this information or is actually learning. I know that as a previously extremely stressed out high school student, everything I learned would fly away after a test, never to be needed or used again.
Conclusion: Students need homework. However, the homework load should be reduced and exams should be created by the student, not the teacher! This motivates students to study and retain the information and formulate questions for themselves and their peers! Lastly, there should be no more excess work!
Homework is Unpaid labor. It forces students to go home after a stressful day of school and activities to do pointless work. How is one student supposed to do 3-4 hours of homework, study for tests and quizzes, play sports, get involved in the community, eat food with a nutritional value, do chores, get about 8 hours of sleep, and in some cases balance a part time job? It's nearly impossible! The ammount of stress homework causes is ridiculous. Then there's the stress of bullies, doing good in school, making friends, and staying healthy. Homework adds to stress and is unnecessary.
My second point is that home work is harmful, and it was found on a post by Tommy S., a midmorning host on CJAD radio in Montreal. Homework is harmful. One mother of a 7 year old said that her daughter used to love school but now hates it because she is forced to do 90 min of school work. According to Kathrine Sellgreen on BBC News, 1st and 2nd graders should only be doing 10 min of homework. If the child knows the work then he or she isn't learning anything new. If they don't understand the work the why have them repeat their mistakes? Most people might argue the homework provides a 'structure' and with out it the child would come home and 'fool around'. That is exactly what they should be doing! They deal with this structure for around 8 hours each day, 5 days a week! Good teachers should get the job done in class. Those who can't assign homework. Banning it will improve the lives of the parent, teacher, and student.
Homework. When that word is said, all the students in my class literally groan and moan about it. If we learned this stuff in class, there would be no need for homework. Homework is also, in theory, a way to encourage procrastinating. I had a serious procrastination problem when I was in 5th through 7th grade, which is when homework actually started to take up more time at home. If somebody does not have any kind of encouragement to do homework, usually they just sit back and do it at the last second; and I should know, since I took a survey and told everyone it was anonomous. About 4 out of 5 kids procrastinate without any kind of encouragement. At most, homework should be just to study. Another thing that supports how teachers are lazy is that they can barely spend any time MAKING the homework, if the homework is not even made for them in a textbook or something, but lets say that your teacher is teaching about World War 2 or some other event or person in history. They just hand out books on it and tell you to read, then says, "write a 5 page paper on it, due tomarrow." See what I mean? Teachers take 3 seconds to TELL you the homework, but it takes you hours to DO it. Maybe the teachers should also do the homework that they give out, just to be fair, and see how annoying it actually is. If a teacher didnt have to do that, they could just say it and you had to do it, but if teachers did, then they could say it, consider it, because they would have to do it as well, and maybe actually realize that homework is like being back at the school right after work.
Homework is the way to spend time on studies but not always because we will not have time to spend on other stuff like going through the lessons, and practicing worksheets .Most of us sit with the homework even before few days from exam which will again create a problem with the marks.Hence homework should be banned.
Parents say children as young as six are being set up to an hour’s work a night.
With the new term under way, online message forums have been inundated with mums and dads expressing concern about the workload.
Now unions are calling for a ban on homework in primary schools.
However, opponents have branded their calls “ridiculous” and pointed to studies linking homework with higher achievement.
Ian Toone, of Voice The Union, said: “Some of these primary schools might think by setting homework they will raise standards but my view is that it can be counter-productive.
“I would say homework for primary school pupils should not be necessary. Primary school children spend enough time in school as it is.
“If they are given more work in the evening it is going to tire them out and they won’t be able to do other things. They should have time to relax.”
In 2012 Education Secretary Michael Gove scrapped Government guidelines on how many hours of homework should be set by primary and secondary schools.
But Mr Toone claims the Government should now go further and scrap all homework for primary school pupils, claiming it causes unnecessary stress to youngsters and disproportionately favours pupils from more privileged backgrounds.
His calls come just days after a lobby of nearly 130 education experts called for children to start school as late as the age of seven, mirroring the Scandinavian systems said to be among the best in the world.
But Chris McGovern, of lobby group the Campaign for Real Education, claimed many youngsters relish their homework.
He said: “I don’t think it should be banned, that would be ridiculous, but it needs to be decided by individual schools.
“When I was a head teacher in London where the children were aged five to 13 we had a relaxed approach to homework, which meant by year six or seven they were doing seven homeworks a week.
“We thought it was sufficient. I don’t think we want to overburden children but there are children who are desperate to find out more and learn more.
“There are plenty of children who like to do homework such as reading a book. It is a pleasure to them.”
Mr McGovern added state primary schools should look to the independent sector where school days are extended so that pupils do their homework before they leave school for the evening.
His views were echoed by Conservative MSP Liz Smith, a former teacher, who said it would be a mistake to abolish homework at primary schools.
She said: “Homework is valuable in instilling self-discipline which helps their learning in the classroom.
“It’s a worthwhile tool even for the youngest children. I certainly would never ban it. It’s a wonderful way of engaging with parents during those early years.”
However, Professor Cary Cooper, a psychology expert at Lancaster University, warned teachers should be very careful about piling too much on youngster
Homework is a BURDEN from my point of view......It does not allow students to spend time with there family and have a nice interaction with them as when they come from school there are homework ringing on there heads to cruel......And then extra studies for exams then tution.....Offfff.....A complete busy life surrounds them......They have no time to go and have some extra classes
For teachers who grade homework, it results in students who didn't have enough time to finish it a bad grade. When I get twenty pages of work a day, how am I supposed to finish it, while to top it off I have to have sports and clubs if I ever want to get into an ivy league school?
Homework is really annoying because it wastes my time and its really boring to do. I never have time to hang out with my friend. GOSH. We need to ban homework. I want to have a life. A normal life without homework. The world would be a lot better without homework.
YES Homework should be banned because it is work in which it takes our precious time of playing outdoor or indoor games .If the small children dont go for playing games the will be stressed and cannot concentrate in there studies.Hence i would like say that homework should be banned.
All homework accomplishes is making kids stressed and pushing them pasty their limits. No one wants to go through 7 hours of homework. Ever. However this is still going on. Because of it kids have to stress over the looming deadlines, and it has an impact on their family time, and social time. With almost no studies showing it does anything good, why is it still plaguing our school systems?
Homework should be banned because it just isn't useful and wastes time.
There are many reasons why I think homework should be banned. These all of the reasons why I think homework should be banned:
The first reason why I think that homework should be banned is because it doesn’t help and it makes my learning worse. For an example which happens very often, if I don’t know how to do the work, then it’s very hard and I have to stay up late at night
School wants you to work for 7 hours during the day. They want you to wake up at 7, go to school at 8 and leave at 3. They also want you to do 4 hours of homework everyday and let's not forget the extra activities outside of school. They want you to do swimming, dance or any other activity. But how do they expect us to do that everyday and get 8 hours of sleep. But that's physically impossible. I think they should ban homework so teenagers can finally get the sleep they need to develop and to be more concentrated and awake during school hours.
Homework should be banned for these fallowing grades: 7,8,9,10,11 and 12th. Please remember that. All homework for 6th- is super easy and able to get done along with time to play and spend time with family. However the other grades don't have enough time with all those stacks given. If homework is banned it would increase family time.
With homeworks kids have more stress on there plate plus we have to spend all day at school learning about it anyway. Why do we have to take it home with us? Kids could have a horrible life at home with the parents and family. Why should you add stress to them? Everyday they go home and their parents dont support them to do their homework, so they give up on their selves.. And dont do the homework. Then it effects them at school. Then they have a bad life at school as well because of the grades. Then they have depression, then they kill there selves. So i think that we should have LESS homework or NONE at all.
Personally, I think that homework should be banned, because you come home from school on you moms birthday and you can't even spend time with her because you have too much homework to do.Like, don't people say family first? And besides, some people say that school is to get you ready for your adult years, but, I'm still in school and I didn't know that a book report will help me to be a waitress.
Everyday I come from school and I have loads of homework and that is not letting me even to do other stuff. On the weekend I have loads of homework and essays to write. Even some homework sometimes I do not understand them and it is really so hard. I do not have time to play even a single second and when I come from school I do not have time to eat. I eat while doing my homework.
While one may say that Television and Video Games distract children and don't let them reach their optimum intelligence level, I believe the biggest reason students sometimes give up on their dream of becoming astrophysicists and zoologists is because of the endless amounts of time they spend on boring homework from school. Everyone once loved whatever they despise and each field has different areas that may interest different individuals. Yes, I love science but I do not quite love chemistry and that Thursday night chemistry homework might be the reason I never show interest in science, may it be even physics or biology. Homework takes away time which students may actually use to explore areas of interest apart from saving paper, ink and countless hours spending time on something that they do not enjoy.
I said that homework shoud be banned because it is really unnecessary and it is really stupid, students study like 8 hours a day and they go home to relax and do not worry about more work but instead they have to go home to do more work instead of been relaxing
I harte homework! When all of my friends from the pub'ic schools are outside riding bikes, im trapped inside with a mountain of homework!!! Homework should be banned from schools!!! I am trapped inside, not getting outside and hanging out with my friends, no!!! I trapped inside by math, science, and literature!!!! LONG LIVE THE AFTERNOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It I so hard it is hard and crazy amount how much the teachers give and is at 100 pages .
It is not good for you and you have no time to do anything else. There is no point in doing it.You rather be at home playing sports or doing something useful
I am a student in the UK and I think that homework takes away our freedom and doesn't give us any time to go out with our friends or to go to sports clubs. Governments are saying that children are overweight, no surprise when they have to do a tonne of homework !!!
6 hours of school, 2 hours of sports or extra curriculars, homework, bed, repeat. Where does it end? Is there more to life for teens? Many adults don't even work this many hours. How can teens enjoy anything when they constantly have work to do? What about the things THEY want to learn like how to ski or how to draw? Doesn't any of that matter? Life is too short and homework gives them less time to find what they are passionate about.
I think that homework should be banned because the amount of school work that the children have is too much stress and they are already learning a lot at school and the only time they will have freedom from learning is when they are away from school. If they aren't paying attention review what you had told the class and if they didn't then tell the student to stay until they learn.
I approve this message!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My homework will sometimes take me till nine o'clock at night because of dinner and the amount I get. I personally think that the rate that homework is delivered is to fast four to six pieces I get now that's not a week that's a day and according to them it should take me thirty minutes per homework but no it's more like one hour to an our and a half hours. Also if I am told I have done it wrong by a parent I get stressed out which makes my tired because you lose energy quicker by stressing.
I want more time with my family and play time too. So when I do not have homework on weekends I can have a bunch of fun! I love having time with my family. And I love having time with my dogs and my nieces. So that is why I say yes for homework to be banned.
Because it is effort and it doesn't make you better in school, in fact I think it lowers my test scores down when revising at home. It also causes detentions if you cant do it. The teachers think they do a good thing but really they're overloading our heads with information
Homework should be banned because kids go through a long hard day Working at school then they have to come home and do it all over again. I think it would help rise grades because it would allow more time to study and prep for tests. For me every evening my family wants to do stuff like go to the movies or stuff like that but I have homework and then I cant go. If they have homework they wont have time to go outside and exercise.
Isnt it bad enough having an 8 hour day doing corsework to then do homework on top of that meaning we have to stay up all night completing it and waking up the next day tired and not taking in the work we really need to do in order for our gcses .
The modern day child is bombarded with loads of homework per night. It is already hard enough for some kids to have fun and "chill out." Homework is one of the largest part of anxiety for kids. Allowing kids to just enjoy their lives would be more beneficial. Work should be done at school where they can be aided by their teachers.
Homework puts a lot of stress on children and kids without homework makes them happy to wake upp in the morning and come to school. Knowing that they havent got any homework to hand in (Especially if they haven't done the work) This way we would have happier kids and they would love school even more.
Teachers don't think about what kids go through in their personal lives. I get the fact about learning at home, but for most kids, it doesn't help them. The main reason kids are flunking out or failing school is because of homework. Some kids are up to the challenge, but most aren't ready. I at least think kids should have one teacher from each of their classes should give them one page of homework per week.
Because you don't need homework after 6-7 hours at school it's totally a waste of time.
It's not that I'm lazy it's just that I can't be bothered doing something that wastes so much of my time and it's something you won't need when you gat a job. Both my parents are lawyers and they don't even have homework all their work is left at their offices
And it's gay
The only people who have time for a large amount of homework, especially in honors classes, are the people who have absolutely no social or enjoyable lives. The people who work, like me and millions of others, have almost no time for any homework at all. The school system is forcing more and more work on students every week. My school, for example, is having Parish(county) mandated essays about twice a week, not even considering teacher-assigned essays, WITHOUT mentioning normal homework. It is ridiculous.
In the European union the maximum amount of time you are allowed to work is 48 hours in a week. Every student has about 38 hours of school in a week and about 18 hours of homework every week. That means that a student has to sacrifice 8 more hours than a working adult. How is that fair? Sure, you can learn more stuff if you are younger, but you lose productivity if you work too hard
When I get home from school I just want to sit down but no. I have so much homeworks a day that I couldn't tell you how much. I have to work in school as hard as I can just to come home to do more work. I can never get it done and if you stay off sick you have to do it all. I think homework should be banned talking for me and all the other kids out there.
I often feel very overwhelmed by the amount of homework that my teachers assign me. Homework also detracts from time with friends and family and with homework there is less time in the day for sports. If we cannot ban homework all together, at lease ban it for over breaks such as winter break, spring break, thanksgiving break, and so on.
Homework should absolutely be banned. I'm a sophomore in highschool, and the teachers in my school give us so many homeworks everday. We gotta stay up till late to finish up those homework, we dont have time left to study for the tests and prepare for the next day. Even if homework really is necessary, teacher should should reduce it. GIVE US A BREAK!
Teachers think and expect us to go home after school and do more work after sitting in a chair 8 hours and do even more work than at school. I don't have that much time to do my homework after school because I have activities such as productions and voice class. Usually I get done at around nine o'clock and that is my bedtime. I can't be expected to go home and slave away at more work! It is wrong and could be considered child abuse because you are forcing children to do mandatory work after school. Some of us actually have lives we want to live. We don't want to be stuck at home doing essays on friday nights instead of having fun with our friends!
It does not allow the child to mix with his family and his friends. The child lacks behind in the physical activities in particularly does not allow to study the learning material and thus does not get good grades in the exam if we are given then it should not be too muchl
The students are the main part. They are the ones growing up. They need the work, rest and they need the play. Homework impacts this story. With homework, students have like around 10 hours of work. This makes them stressed them, so stressed that they cannot concentrate the next day only worrying about homework. To make matters worse, this could interfere with their after school timetable. For example if there was homework, a specific child had a possibility of not going to his soccer training also making him stressed. However it could also be vice versa. As you can see as well as teachers, students have a live and can’t afford to study all day, every day.
At school your job is to work hard and be prepared for what you want to become when you get older. Many say that you only do homework if you haven't finished you work at school...But what you do at home also determines the course of your life. Home is your private place to practice what you love (eg. Basketballer, chief etc.); so there is room for both.
Homework should be banned because parents or guardians tell us to go outside but we cant because we have to much homework and it takes up all are free time so we cant be are selves or be a kid like we should. If we work all day, why should we work when we get home as well and adults can decide if they want to work overtime but we cant because it is compulsory
I think homework should be banned because its a waste of paper and its to much work for teachers to grade the papers. Also the homework kind of separates family, what I mean is that some of us kids have bedtimes and we have to do our homework. Sometimes we have a lot of homework and we have to go to bed right after that. And if we have sports we sometimes have to not do it, for example I have basketball practice at 8:00 and it ends at 9:00 so I don't have a lot of time to do my homework. Another thing is that homework kills trees
Home works are given to students so that they learn more and practice it time to time but as a matter of reality a good and curios student does that even without them. They can get the same good marks so why should home-works be given as a burden to students . It instead stress them and makes their concentration power less. Therefore, home-work is a complete no for me
Homework causes pain towards the students and the parents. If there is no bond between them, how will they communicate towards each other? Teachers should fear that the students are failing in their class. Parents should also be worried too because if their child is failing this class, its because of too much homework teachers are giving these days.
I hate homework, like everyone in school. I agree you should revise exams and for tests at home as that's not up to the school but when your given a piece of homework that takes ages and doesn't help in any way it annoys me. A year ago in Year 8, we had to make our own predator up with adaptations and that. It took me 4 hours to draw. Gave it in. Problems with teachers and didn't have that teacher again. Also, I've noticed most teachers don't even bother looking at the homework despite the hard work and effort you put into it. Even worse, it's the people who always forget to bring it in that seem to get praised more. An annoying thing about my school is that one week I won't have any but the next I have 5 pieces a day (I have 5 lessons a day). It's really hard to juggle as you probably know. Those weeks is when I only really talk to my family in the dining room having tea. I understand how it helps you in future life and allows you have better understanding of the work but it's taking social, spare, and family time away from you. So what are your views on homework? Thanks
Due to the fact that it is so time consuming, majority of the time gets consumed on initial research, it's just a nightmare really. We should stick to 100% exams, get what we have been taught, revise and sit for the exam each semester. I'm referring to assignments, not homework.
Homework keeps kids from having an outdoor life. Studies have shown that kids get more confused from homework and more stressed. Kids don't learn things from homework because they already learned it at school. Most kids already know the stuff and it is just a waste of time for them. HOMEWORK IS STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!
Homework can be a good thing if it is limited. But in teachers eyes now a days, there is no such thing as "Too much." And sometimes kids can get confused during homework and just give up and that leads to some strange things. And sometimes the teacher hasn't even EXPLAINED what to do with the homework. So really, it should be banned or at least cut short.
• Your child is gaining several simple skills each time she sits down to do work at home.
• When they take the state test their scores will be acceptable.
• They will be wanted in many schools because of their good test scores.
• The homework assignment is a child responsibility. When students assume responsibility for their homework and complete an assignment, it is only then that they learn to be accountable for their actions.
• Homework teaches kids how to deal with adversity. Your child can take pride in finishing an assignment regardless of difficulties or problems.
• Completing homework in a timely manner will help your child develop trust and self-confidence. The inspiration to work harder on the next project occurs when kids feel good about their accomplishments
Hi I'm here to help getting no more homework here are a few reasons why I want to ban homework. First of for starter we are getting to much homework as it is so why do we need more. We also need to ban home work because even I am getting behind on homework with how much there is and plus we are getting so much home work that we get little to no time with family plus with our chores it just make every thing harder. Because of this inconvenience of homework we grow drowsy and sleepy and there for we tend to doze off in class and sleep. With the deprivation of sleep we can tend to start to see things that are not real are that are not really there this is why I thing homework should be banned from school.
There is no reason to do it. It's wasting pencil lead, wood, trees, and ink and it takes valuable time away from our day. School, in my opinion, should only take six hours out of the day, and we shoudl t go home to mores chool work. If you agree, click the thumbs up button!
I think that homework is a bad idea for kids who don't need it. I'm a straight A student and I come home with pages and pages of homework that I already proved I understood in class. Why is it fair for me to have to do some much homework on a topic I already understand if the whole purpose of homework is to use it as practice?
HOWEVER-- if you are a student who struggles with a certain topic, I think you should be given a light amount of homework if you can handle it.
Homework has been given to students because teachers believe it helps them remember what they learn at school, and helps them learn the material better. "Homework is super helpful in learning and processing the material learned in class." Said no kid ever. Too much homework is not helpful, and can be unhealthy. Excessive amounts of time spent on homework can take away from kids social lives, family time, and sports or other activities. Homework should be outlawed.
Critically acclaimed author Tami Ansary says, that since 1981, the amount of homework given to sixth graders has increased by more than fifty percent. In 1957, the Russians launched Sputnik into outer space. The new competition made schools try to increase the difficulty of the curriculum. With harder classes came more homework.
Homework takes away from time that kids could be spending with their families. Rather than spending time bonding and building strong family relationships, parents and children argue over homework.
If you have extra work to do, get it done at school. Teenagers and kids have lives. They have time to grow up. Forcing them to take school home with them isn't helpful to them at all. Practice does make perfect, but it not for this occasion.
Teens get busy. They need time to relax, time to hang out with their friends, time for family. When there are 20+ worksheets or other things to do every single day, it isn't beneficial at all. You think you're "helping" the student by getting them practice, but really, it's not practice, it's torture.
Having no homework will be easier for the teachers as well. They complain about having so much to mark, and having 100+ students, but if we didn't have that much homework, you guys wouldn't either.
Homework should be banned because, nobody wants too take school home with them! Kids and Teenagers need social lives, or time too spend with family. I for instance am very busy after school I dance 4 hours a week, babysit a few times a week, and I like to hangout with friends. I for one don't want homework because it ruins after school and weekends for me when I want to do other things I am not allowed because I get so much homework. Teachers would be a lot happier too because so much work wouldn't be handed in at once. If you give students a worksheet and give them 30 minutes then the teacher will get most of it and be able to mark them as there handed in. I see no point in giving them mandatory extra work. For math, you could have your work, but you could also get another sheet too keep just for practise. I for one do not like it simply because it takes away from my daily life. I wish that we would get no homework, but on another note I do like school I just don't want too take it home! But who does?
Homework does not necessarily help a child learn. One of the worst examples is busy work. You are usually meant to memorize something, such as the multiplication tables. The other countries who are leading do not have that much homework. Instead, they focus on creativity, and that brings out the best of the students.
Homework should be banned because I think its too stressing and you can be doing fun/better things! Also every person when they were young they cryed cause they had way too much homework!! Once i saw someone lie about there homework being finished because they had way to much! Thank you!
Because homework causes many students to become frustrated and exhausted. Most students have lack of time for other activities out of school and our body needs physical activity. If homework continues to be distributed to children across the world or around the country many children will have a huge lack of interest in learning.
This post is supporting the millions of kids who stress about homework.
Homework is a waste to the young generation of the UK. As kids should be outside playing. So stop it NOW!!!
And can you all answer this question:
Homework OR fun outside?
Thank you all reading this comment. Bye.
The more homework that we get, the less work we do. This causes us to not understand and properly do the problem, because we are racing to get it done since we have so much homework. We should not be assigned so much homework and should have time to complete it in school
According Alfie Kohn more than 77% in the world want’s to ban homework and the other 23% wants to keep the homework. Homework is also affecting family life a lot of kids can't even make it to dinner, and as a result, the only interaction they have with their parents involves arguments about homework. After spending most of the day in school, students are given assignments to complete at home. People give too much homework for kids of all ages. It’s worth asking not only whether there are good reasons to support the practice of assigning homework, but why it’s so often taken for granted even a vast numbers of teachers and parents who are troubled by its impact on children. Homework is not necessary.
I have a feeling people say we need homework more so its tradition to get homework rather than because we actually need it. Subjects like math and foreign language is the only two that really require homework to be don't, the rest of the classes give homework because of a culture of testing that has arisen recently that require intensive test preparation rather than learning. If you want to teach responsibility and have kids pratice homework is not the answer. Learning will happen almost spontaneously because it is a natural behavior, unlike testing and homework.
At school I have tones of fights with other girl groups and then I have to do homework.
#1.Children shouldn't have homework because they just sit down and do homework and not go out and play with friends or do sport.
#2 Kids (eg; me) are missing out on catching up with friends because there parents are obsessed with making sure their child gets good marks. This causes kids to lose friends not make friends.
Firstly homework should be stopped because they already have schoolwork they don't need homework so they have more time to the selves
Secondly homework should be stopped students may as well have longer school days to study
Finally homework should be stopped because makes them tired and they forget what they learnt
All in all I strongly believe that homework should be banished off the face of the Earth
Instead of going outside and getting exercise. Children are made to sit in front of a computer or at a table doing hours of homework, which teachers should of made time to do in class. Some nights children are doing up to 4 hours of homework instead of getting there daily amount of exercise. Which leads to kids getting fatter and fatter.
You spend so much time on homework you don't have any time to do anything else. It's ridiculous. Every week I get more than 35 hours of homework and at least 5 tests. How am I supposed to manage my time into doing all that? Then teachers say that they forgot to mark our bring our books when they had a week but we only have 2 days maximum do to it. On top of that teachers make us do extra curricular activities but how are we supposed to find the time for that??
Countries with some of the best education, like Finland have no homework and the students benefit from it. Their graduation rate is 93%, whereas Canada is 78% and the US is around 75%. Finland also has the highest rating in Europe of students going to college (about 2 in 3 students will go to college).
However, their education also differs in other ways, which could teach North American schools a thing or two.
Finland has a lower teacher to student ratio (1:12) compared to America (1:24). This allows teachers to give students more attention.
Finland also allows their students more recess (75 minutes compared to 27 minutes).
Finland also requires their teachers to have Master's degrees.
Cutting homework wouldn't solve problems by itself, the whole system would have to be revamped in order to benefit its students. Starting with a smaller teacher/student ratio would be a good start, as it would actually allow less homework. It would also open up more jobs, which could possibly help the local economy :D
I have sports and I have no time what so ever for homework. Also, it's just boring review. We have 7 hours and 5 days a week of school for a reason.... Homework sucks, homework sucks, homework sucks. I mean, how many times do I have to say it before it actually happens!?
I think homework should be banned. Homework is good but kids avoid it and get in trouble. In the case of having no homework there should be more class work. I could bet that kids would rather have classwork than homework because they could have fun at home and work harder in school. Again homework should be banned. Also homework is the reason kids have bad grades and the reason I don't pass school.
Homework causes stress and stress causes bad grades. It is not worth it, speaking that there has never been any research done to prove the positive effects of homework. It wastes time. Supporters may say homework develops character, but it only frustrates us and takes time away from us that we could be using to actually build character, like sports and other activities outside of school.
I get home at 4:30 to 5:00 and finish my home work at 8:30. The next day I'm so tired i cant concentrate at school and the teachers are mad at me because i didn't do it because i didn't have time. Teachers should teach this at school not leave work so you do it at your house.
Everyday, we would get homework. Some short, some long. Although, not all of us would do it and get this learning experience out of it. Homework is just homework. We may do it, but it does not necessarily mean that we learn from it. A simple person could do homework, or perhaps numerous homework, yet still out of all those homework that that person had done had helped him learn anything. Why encourage homework as a better aspect in learning, when it kills the time we need to study and learn more on our own. Teachers who teach their students should have faith in their students. They should trust their students. Trust them in engaging themselves to educational activities when they are not in school. Many famed people in our world developed the ideals, discoveries, theories, and inventions from dropping out of school. This doesn't necessarily mean that we must do the same and drop out of school. Their intentions may be that they preferred not having to be engaged in unnecessary work. In our case, it would be homework. I believe that homework is unnecessary. If one was to have no homework, if would be possible that they would go home to study, re-look over the notes he took and perhaps even research about it even more. I believe that teachers should motivate their students to learn rather than give unnecessary work.
I understand just about everything I go over in class. I make lots of contributions in class. I am in the top 5% of my graduating high school class, but I am a slow reader, writer, and typer. I get homework that takes me longer to finish, than it takes me to attend a day of school. I am very social when I get the chance, but I currently have no social life. The main reason why I may not do my homework was because I feel asleep due to exhaustion. If I didn't have homework, I may have had time to study for tests. If I didn't have homework, I'd have perfect attendance. My parents understand and let me miss about one school day a year. So I use it as an emergency. I am the type of person who does a homework assignment that is supposed to take 20-30 minutes and finish it in 2-3 hours.
What I'm mainly trying to say is homework is unfair to people with slower abilities. Instead it should be optional so that you can use it to study and not do hours of work that may not even be related to the topic being taught in class. With that extra time, I could do some after school activities that I'm interested in, sign up for more scholarships, get a job, and have a social life with family and friends.
I am a middle school student and completely agree with the idea of homework being banned. It's very stressful and I have no time left over in my day for anything. People say it's necessary to prepare for a hard life with a job full of work to do at home. Well guess what? I HAVE MORE STUFF TO DO THAN MY VERY OWN HARDWORKING PARENTS. All my family members even agree that I have way too much to do. When family members come and visit for the wkend I''m constantly in my bedroom working on crap that some stupid teacher gave me. There's legit no time left for anything in my day. And when they leave on Sunday I'm still busied up with more homework to do! I can't spend time with family, help out around the house, or even clean my room and do my laundry. Teachers have piled us up with way too much work. Homework is more work all around for everybody. I mean, teachers have to grade more, correct more, and students spend more of their own time on nothing. Homework is so time consuming. I spend hours on it every day which causes me to go to bed late, and after everything is all said and done I don't have time to go outside and be a kid. Teachers have even taken over the weekend of so many kids all around the world.
There is no point in homework. It just makes students not have any free time at all. If teachers want to see what the students learned then give it to them in class. Kids want to go outside an play with their friends the last thing they want to do is work when they are out of school.
It takes away time from my family and friends. I also have large and filled scheduals, i then loose time to to even finish my homework. Homework should only be INSIDE school hours, not outside. Homework is often a nightly problem as well, Homework is also been starting to show up on weekends. Weekends are times when people are supposed to be "kids", but they cant because of the mountain of homework given.
As an eleven year old I think homework is slavery because slavery is work without paying and do we get paid for it? Noooo. It's also illegal because teachers have no control over kids off school grounds and our parents have control over us. I really don't think it's fair!!!!!!!!
Homework is a huge waste of time. School already takes about 7 hours away from our lives teaching us, why do the teachers need to send school home with us? When I go home, I want to relax, but can I ...? NO! Because my nose is always in a textbook with knee-high papers of homework. We should be able to go home, and spend time with our families or do something we enjoy, I want to be a kid at home... NOT a student.
Students already have about 7 hours in school, why should they send school with us when we go home? As a kids job, they should be living their life, this takes away from family time as well. Students shouldn't have to have their noses in a textbook once it's time to go home. This time should be used wisely. Let students be kids when they get home, not a student.
Homework is a waste of time. Why do kids have to work for 7 hours a day just to go home and work more. Its horrible. I think homework should be optional. It can be for extra credit. Kids shouldnt have to wake up so early in the morning, work for 7 hours, then come home and work more. Thats a shame
Every night I stay up until eleven at night to finish my work. I understand that my teacher assigns us the homework because it's to help us improve, but homework is useless from my point of view. I am a good student but its been harder for me to keep up these days. The reason why is because of homework overload. I mean, who would want to sit there doing your homework when you know that it is really just the written version of what you've learned in class that very day. You shouldn't have to be spending hours just sitting there trying to complete the homework when you have a Math test the following day. You shouldn't have to waste your time reviewing the day's lesson when you could be studying for that test. Plus, less homework equals more time to sleep and enjoy yourself. If you had less homework, you could spend more time with your family, sleep to the max, and have more alone time with yourself! Less homework would mean that teachers won't have to spend their time marking all the homework. Teachers could have more fun NOT giving out homework. They might even be in a better mood because no homework means that they won't have to stay up those extra hours to finish up their work. So it's a win win!
Stress isn't good for your body either you know! Whenever I'm overworked, i tend to get acne and every morning i wake up from a bad dream. I know that my mother is upset with the amount of homework that i have. So to all the parents that want more homework for their children. Is homework more important than happiness? Is being trapped in your room doing homework all day more important than sitting at the table eating dinner with family? Think about it.
When I come home after 7 or 8 hours of hard work i still have to spend at the minimum 3-5 hours of more work!! Instead of kids coming home just to do more work they should play outside or do what they feel like doing not more work the only problem i have with school is my homework. Its the reason i fail!!!!!! Why should we have homework? Aren't the teachers supposed to teach us all the stuff in class. If the teachers say homework is to see what we learned then what are the test and quizzes for? Why should we even have test then? You see theirs no pint in homework its just another we waste our time
I am in 8th grade and normally am up until about midnight every night doing homework. They give us way too much. I am always so tired during the school day and then I come home all confused on the homework because I was tired during the day and couldn't pay attention! I hate homework. I don't remember the last time I got to hang out with a friend and I'm seriously working on it like eight hours a day. It's awful.
Banning homework would eliminate the counter productiveness that homework offer
Most students stay up very late because of home work, I know that I do. Going to asleep late does not help students learn, memorize, or pay attention easily. It becomes a struggle. By banning home work, we would eliminate this counterproductiveness
Homework is simply an extension of the school day that has been relocated to your home. And by that logic, I have at least a thirteen hour workday from Monday to Friday, and in order to get an appropriate amount of sleep, I go to bed at any time between 9 and 10 o' clock, which leaves me no time to have some time to spend with my loving family, to have some quality relaxation to myself, to go out with friends and have a good time, or anything else of that category! It also produces stress on students, overworks students, reduces social interaction due to time consumption, reduces basic life skills like keeping a tidy home, and in some cases, worsens student grades! That's right teachers! Homework doesn't help students improve in school. Anybody who doesn't believe me can go look up the facts, because that's what I did!
In conclusion, homework has absolutely NO benefits whatsoever, reduces many life skills, produces stress and work, and takes away the life that was meant to be lived every day!
Homework is like leaving school and then going back to it for another three hours. When you look at school you want to barf. Its so much stress on us kids these days. "If you don't do homework you will fail." Is basically what teachers say. Then you look at those cool teachers who don't give that much homework. One every once in a while. The the ones who give you more than 5 pages from one subject.
Teachers are paid to teach my children in class, homework is to stressful on our children and it takes away from family time. I learned to hate school because of homework and I don't want other children to hate it also. If more class time is needed than they need to extend the school year.
Homework is not working, and I know that because i am in 6th grade.Through my years of school I know that when i was in 3rd grade I stopped doing the homework the rest of that year and my grades where at an A B honor roll. That is why I don't think homework helps.
I think it should becuase it doesent help kids have fun and go outside and play with their freinds. They will have more time to have fun and be heathy all day long.Homework may be too hard for kids to do every week. They might stay up all night doing homework than the next day they will be tiyred all day long. Daniel
When i do homework, I have no time afterwards to do anything else. Like hanging out with friends or family. If homework were to get banned then teachers wouldn't have to take up time of the day that they could spend doing other work in class, so then afterwards kids aren't stressed after school and the next day the come into school being happy and not worried about what did i ave in this class hat i might have missed.
I think that children do enough work at school and need to have some chill out time at home. They also become tired more easily and so to start homework in the evening after parents have come home can be a conflict. Parents do need to know what is happening but can see how their children are progressing at school through their child's mannerism . Children need time to rest and or play.
Children like me already have enough after school activities. For example
I go to gymnastics 9 hours a week and go to swimming in the morning at 5;30 isn't that already enough stress on us students.
Homework is horrible after a long hard days at shool. No one wants to come home from school and have to do homework.
These days teachers set tasks on the computer. This can cause many problems between your parents and siblings. If you are a single child you would argue with your parents about you don't want to do homework and if you have a sibling you wold fight about who goes first.
I think that homework does help one learn the material better and perform better on tests, it also helps teach time management. But I do not believe it should be graded, it is meant for practice to build the skill you had just acquired that day or that week, to grade it creates problems such as cheating. Also not every student needs the same amount of practice and should do what they see fit (much like in college) or what they think is a priority. I think teachers should give homework that will help the student keep up if they need it, but it should not be a requirement. This would prepare students for life where they decide what they do with their time. When I was in high school i never needed to do the homework to learn, and I got A's without the homework or studying, a lot of the time i never even touched the textbook. Because of my experience I view homework as supplemental learning to the class whose need largely depends on the needs and ability of the student. When a student doesn't have a need to do the assignment the grading of it only frustrates and angers the student, which then interferes with the learning process. I found that I had learned more from the teachers that did not grade homework (for either completion or correctness) than I did from the teachers that assigned and graded homework regularly.
Homework teaches you how to think, but doesn't help you remain healthy. It is worthlessly grueling, and deprives students of sleep, which would seem to actually increase the desire to learn. I'm a college student right now, and I'm overloaded with homework. Homework, while helpful to learn complex topics such as mathematics, suppresses learning in other areas, such as history. Instead of the main goal of college being to give students a desire to learn and teach them to do so without force, just like researchers do in the real world, a theory is invented that attributes the completion of work to success. In short, while homework helps to mold and shape a person's thinking, increasing intellectual capacity, it causes undue stress that might not justify it. Cost Benefit Analysis.
Homework can sometimes be simple or very difficult, homework is not just simple worksheets and textbook readings. There are projects due, essays to be written, and activities to be participated in. Many students like sports and attend them daily whether it's for school or just recreation. Students wake up early, sometimes even earlier than adults and are expected to go through 7 hours of working, listening, writing, solving, understanding, and socialize. Even though it does seem a bit lazy, it is true. Waking up before the sun even rises is exhausting and cannot allow some students to pay attention in class especially if there's a test. There's a reason students like substitutes so much, they get more time just to get rid stressed out and not work for several minutes.
Now, after all those things during and after school, there's the homework that can cause students to ignore more important things like projects and studying for tests, etc. Now if one student can go to school at 6 or 7, go through learning for 7 hours, do sports, go to extra lessons, do homework, study, eat, shower, and socialize, they would realize that that would be a constant routine. With all those things to do, sleep will be essential but there won't be any real sleep because of homework.
While doing homework, it is possible to lose interest and get distracted leading to procrastination. Then, they realized they wasted time and still have other things to do. If the time it took to do homework was taken out, students could be more relaxed and have a better time in school in a sense of being attentive, prepared, and fully participating.
My teacher helped up look up reasons why we are against or for homework, we saw that studied showed that kids had better grades BECAUSE of NOT doing homework. The kids who DID do homework showed a worse result than the kids who didn't do homework!!! The ITBS test was the test they took to see who was better No homework Or All the homework.
I have so much homework that there is literally not enough time to finish it (if i want to actually learn something), and if i plan to finish it, then i best plan on 3 hours of sleep. It'd be nice if i could actually learn without attaching 20 questions that simply distract. I put words on the paper, but because im so focused on finishing the work and getting a decent grade, it's almost impossible to efficiently learn. Im tired, and I just want to learn. It literally makes me angry
Because reasons...Elementary school, and there is little reason to believe that homework is necessary in high school. In fact, it may even diminish interest in learning, says Kohn.
If you've ever had a late night argument with your child about completing homework, you probably know first-hand that homework can be a strain on families. In an effort to reduce that stress, a growing number of schools are banning homework.
Mary Jane Cera is the academic administrator for the Kino School, a private, nonprofit K-12 school in Tucson, Arizona, which maintains a no-homework policy across all grades. The purpose of the policy is to make sure learning remains a joy for students, not a second shift of work that impedes social time and creative activity. Cera says that when new students are told there will be no homework assignments, they breathe a sigh of relief.
Many proponents of homework argue that life is filled with things we don't like to do, and that homework teaches self-discipline, time management and other nonacademic life skills. Kohn challenges this popular notion: If kids have no choice in the matter of homework, they're not really exercising judgment, and are instead losing their sense of autonomy.
At the Kino school, Cera says children often choose to take their favorite parts of school home. “A lot of what we see kids doing is continuing to write in journals, practicing music with their friends, and taking experiments home to show their parents,” she says. Anecdotal information from Kino graduates suggests that the early control over their education continues to serve them well into college; they feel better equipped to manage their time and approach professors with questions.
Homework is really hard work, and it is hard to remember things you need to do. And I can't remember some things for homework. And it is so complicated and so confusing to me and maybe you . And it is so much stress.
A thoughtful person
Homework is pointless and should be banned because its causing a drastic decrease on high school students grades . The schools give the students to much work, after working hard for about seven hours. Its like work after coming right from work. Your overworking yourself. Since high school students get to much work they don't have time to study causing test results to decrease drastically
Homework creates stress, and limits leisure time. Also, if you have to much homework, you wont have enough time to go to band and also sports after school. We do work for five days a week and five hours every day, why would there be more? People say that homework gets you a 100% on a test, but it really doesn't do anything. And thats my thinking on homework.
I think we should not because we need time for a family we need time for dinner we get way to much i can see if we are punished but for no reason its to much we get like 60 problems a day that is bogus we should ban homework for good
Some kids have work, social lives, and sports. Homework takes up a lot of time after a full day of working at school. Creates lack of sleep in students, students stay up to late to do homework, then have to wake up early in the morning only to go back to school and do more work. Homework should just be optional for students to get extra practice and understanding of a subject.
I recently read an article about how too much homework is very stressful for students, and as a student, I agree. I highly doubt teachers get together to see how much homework the give out, and myself and my classmates tend to get a lot of homework all set for the same day. Besides, we spend six hours in school, and it's pretty unfair to make us do more work at home when we should be able to kick back and enjoy ourselves.
I fail all the time in school sometimes our teachers are not around to help us when we need help or having trouble , our parents may not no what we are learn every day in school so when we get home they wont know how to help us with our homework or know what to doit is a waste of time !
Homework uses up pages and copies and our schools are meant to be green.
They use up copies that use up pages that use up trees and we are not planting enough trees.
Homework is also useless when are you ever gonna use the questions in your book !
NEVER !! So i think homework is so crap.
Homework can be very time consuming for students, resulting in restrictions from hanging out with friends. It can put stress on them when given excessive amounts. Alongside that, when you think about it, most jobs do not send you home with work to do. You get to go home and relax and spend time with people. Almost all work done at home is to keep the house clean or yard work.
I think its does not help it is like torture if you say yes your dumb i got c,s and d,s because of it now i have a,s for not doing it homework it hurts your grades and holds you back in grades sometimes you wonder why some or all of your friends are held back because of it and cannot advance to there next grade
I think homework should be banned because you can't spend time with you family and friends also some times it should be banned because you sometimes just want to go home and relax, have fun and have play dates with your friends, cousins and family. So I think that homework should be banned.
Homework does help me practice skills and concepts that I learn at school, but there are nights that I spend over 5 hours doing homework. Why would want to spend most of my day at school only to come home with hours of more schoolwork to complete? It doesn't make sense. I am only in high school for four years and I want to create memories and have a social life but homework prohibits this. Teachers should be aware that students often have sports practices or ballet or dance or rehearsals after school that take up most of their evenings. After a day at school and 3+ hours of an activity, the students are likely going to be tired. A little bit of homework is probably healthy to keep the kid's brain active, but students don't need to have hours of homework to do every night. If each class could give homework that they believe will take the students less than 15 minutes to complete it would be amazing. If a student had 7 classes each day that would be 1 hour and 25 minutes of homework. Some students would finish at school or during study hall and wouldn't even have that much. If homework can't be banned it should at least be limited to lower student's stress levels and allow them to get more sleep at night. Teenagers need lots of sleep anyway. And how can students be alert at school if they were up all night doing homework? They won't! They will continuously be tired and it will reflect on their work. The extra practice that homework is supposed to give them will only tire them and worsen the problem.
Homework causes stress and we already have 7 to 8 hours of school so why do we have to go home finish all of our homework. Kids usually want to relax after school and hang out with their friends and have fun. Homework is preventing that because they have to do their homework that takes like 1-2 hours and my school gets out at 3 so we can't do anything because its already dark and you can't do any thing. Teachers say kids have to be more creative, but homework gives us less time to do art, music, dance. My friend plays piano, violin, and has tutoring. She gets home at about 4 from tutoring has to do home work that she end at 5-6 so she doesn't have time to practice her instruments, eat, shower, and sleep. Kids also get bad grades on test because their sleep deprived from studying all night. Since they don't get any sleep their brain dosn't function correctly.
Homework is pointless it doesn't let you do the things you want to do or need to do. One thing you could do is a sport or something academically. Or something you need to do is study for a test or help and take care of your family. It also cases lots of stress.
It should be banned because we have no time it is boring. It take up to much of our time . HOMEWORK SHOULD BE BANNED. Homework is stupid no kids like homework. Because in the summer do u want homework i say don't do the stupid homework it . It is to stupid. I HATE homework.
I have other things I have to help out with!!! After 8 hours of school, I do extra curricular activity's until 5:00 and some times that's when my teachers decide to load us with homework! On the weekends I like to play with my friends on my favorite computer game but when I have homework I have to finish that BEOFRE I can play my games, and for the Science fair, it seems like the teachers plan out when to load us with homework. I am so STRESSED. >:(
To much homework can course stress and eating problems. Also it could lower your self a system and never getting to go out with family or friends during weekends and week days. Kids do a lot of work at school most of the math today no many adults would under stand because its so hard.
It is taking away my play time and I need my exercise and I am forced to do it for my elementary school. My teacher believes that homework helps you but I don't believe that it does. Last year, I failed because the homework was too hard for me.It doesn't make things better.
Homework cuts into your normal life time and somtimes can tae up your whole day and sometimes it can create stress between parents and students because it can be hard but then thats where school comes from you have 7 hours to get stuff done maby cut down on some othor class time to get inmportant stuff done like if your lacking in math and 90 percent of the class is having trouble with it help OUT THE CLASS DURING CLASS TIME!.
I'm a sophomore in high school and I realize that it's supposed to help with studying and everything but there are kids out there who come home to an unstable environment. There are kids who have to work after school to keep their home. And there are kids out there who are suffering from mental illnesses. It just drives me to insanity to see that those kids will ultimately have a worse future than those who have a stable home/health/income.
Having two kids in highschool, I can see they are both miserable. One used to be a fantastic student in middle school and was very lively and happy. He's now a freshman and is constantly stressed out and depressed. He comes home from school and goes to his desk and does homework all night long, sometimes I can hear him up at 2 am - 3 am doing his work. Not only that he often will wake up at 4:30, to continue his homework or study (he takes all honors classes). I can't imagine he ever gets more than 4 hours of sleep. He always looks tired and sick, and the lack of sleep is making him look unhealthy as well. He is NOT a lazy person at all, in fact far from it, to all those who say that us who are for banning homework have lazy kids. My point is, as adults we go to work, we have our hours, and when we come home after work, we don't have to worry about it for a few hours, we can go to sleep at a reasonable hour, and we get paid to do what we do. Kids these days don't have a minute to not worry about their schoolwork and just be kids. The American education system, in my opinion, is awful. 75% of what the kids are learning, especially in high school, will never actually be applied to their lives. This is because of state and national standardized testing, that forces public school curriculums to include arbitrary units and skills, so the students can pass the state tests. This is not fair for the students in any way.
I mean, we go to school 8 hours already, so why spend MORE time at home. So ya. We should not get homework. Plus it kills trees. Kids stress a lot with personal problems, and now graded homework? We should stop homework. Maybe just math because it helps you remember.
High school students have way too much homework and do not have time to focus on things they are passionate about. Homework discourages creativity among an age group where creativity should be encourages the most. Finally, the ridiculous amount of homework given out in this day and age stresses out students from middle school until they graduate and creates way too much anxiety.
I dislike homework. I'm not one sided at all. I understand why it is given to us, but we have 5 days of school and the teachers say "Have a nice weekend!" but you know that it will be spoiled by stressful homework. I would much rather have an extra 30 mins of school than have to go home and not be able to relax or just do something.
I am in middle school currently. We get loads of homework; I'm up until 9:45 PM recently. Our teachers promise us 20 minutes of homework per class per night, but they certainly don't keep their promise. I can't recall one homework assignment so far this year that took under 20 minutes. No joke. And weekends? Aren't they supposed to be for free time and fun; a break from school? Well, not when you have a truck load of homework on your back that you have to stress about. I don't think homework should be banned, but they should at least decrease the amount of homework they give us; at least keep their promise. I may be a straight A student, but that doesn't mean I like homework. It'd help teachers too, because then they don't have to grade everyone's homework!

Everyone in my family agrees with this. I'm a high school sophomore, and I go to school all day, cooped up in a desk doing work. This is a seven period day so I do schoolwork in all of these classes daily. I go through all my classes, working diligently while thinking of all the stuff I have to get done at home, and how I'd like to have a little down time afterwards. But then I remember my mountain of homework, upon which point I wince and put my head in my hands, knowing that even if I start on my homework as soon as I walk in the door it'll take me until some ungodly late hour to finish it all, even keeping me up until 2 AM at times, sometimes even on weekends. Obviously after my homework's done I have to eat supper and go to bed. It isn't always that bad but once you lose time in your life, you can never get it back. Homework is consuming my life minute by minute, hour by hour. I just wish someone would just say "OK screw it, we've gone overboard with this; we're not assigning homework anymore." and end the madness...
Just to prove that I'm not some slacker, I usually get straight A's on my report card about half the time and I've been on the honor roll every term. I get up everyday at 6:00, go to school at 7:00 or 7:15 (depending on if I have a morning activity) and leave school at 2:00. That's 7 hours in classes. I spend about 2 hours at after school activities everyday and arrive home at 2:30. Including other activities like showering or eating, I have about 8 hours at home (since I go to bed at 12:30 though this is not my choice.) Showering usually takes an hour and eating takes a half an hour. This leaves me with 6 and a half hours. Since I do homework for 5 hours at least this gives me 1 and a half hours of free time. This is only enough time to watch one television show and a few YouTube videos (or one crying session.) That;s ridiculous. Spending 7 hours in classes and 5 hours doing homework is 12 hours of work. And do not try to claim that this is preparing me for the real world because I will not be working a twelve hour shift as an adult.
During high school, my teachers have me in class for an hour and a half (or more sometimes) and "use" that time to teach me the material. Yet, they seem to think that I need three or four pages of homework along with the hour and a half of class time. I feel that homework should not even be a factor in school because it apparently "teaches" the material. But didn't I just spend an hour and a half learning the same stuff? My point is that if a teacher cannot for some reason teach the lesson in a way that student can properly receive it, and do it in the time given to them; then they are not a good teacher. I'm already at school for 8-10 hours a day, and if I am not being taught the material I need in that time-frame, then something is wrong. The last thing I want to do is bring school, home.
Long hours at school is enough. Anyway, the school system will be even more unfair since some students won't have any help available to them at home. That's what school is for! To those who think it's "beneficial," it's not. Students don't need it and life isn't all about working. Kids need a break to live their lives.
Homework should be band because the teachers control kids for 6 and half hours a day now they try to control us at home should they really control us?!?!?!?! Homework can become a huge stress when you come home from a hard day you just wanna relax or go play a sport or game!!! But no we cant because homework holds us back stresses us out and is completely not fair the teachers get six and a half hours of our time to teach us they cannot cut into our lives this is totally unfair and not OK! This is from a kid so i understand the stress! JUST BAN HOMEWORK PLEASE!!!!!!!
Homework causes unneeded stress and causes students to loss stress and free time.I don't get why we HAVE to do it when countries like japan and Sweden have higher IQ and they have absolutely no homework. Also their is know scientific proof saying homework is good or great. In fact scientists have proven that its bad for familys.Plus country's have done surveys on kids from all grade leveals and 99% said they hate it.IT was good in victorian times when common jobs where coal miners and soldiers. But now i think it is just bad
Studies show that more homework actually lowers grades. When students have too much homework they are stressed out, which causes fights in family and at school. Mass amounts of homework keep students up later which means they are not getting enough hours of sleep that they need to get through the day which causes students to not pay attention in class.
Homework can cause stress and less time of physical activity its a bad thing. Its not good to lower a kids self-esteem. Homework is pointless why do teachers hand it out when it only causes trouble. Some teachers explain it helps reinforce what was taught , that is horse crap I mean it does but it harms kids.
I ask adults how they would feel after coming home from a long, stressful day at work, and having about 6 more hours of it to do. On a good day.
Kids are supposed to grow and learn. They're supposed to be active, not stressed, and enjoying actives that enable better communication and social skills.
If you're an adult, you don't have a right to put forth your opinion on something that KIDS do. That would be like me walking into your boss' office and trying to argue that I think you're lazy and don't need to be payed for over time. Do I work? NO. Do I understand what you do every day? Damn right I don't. So your boss would tell me to shut up and leave because I don't know what I'm talking about. News flash: you don't know what you're talking about if you're against a ban of homework.
It won't affect your life. Promise.
Need an example of how this would work? Do some research on FInland.
Why should students have homework when they give up at least 5-6 hours of they're day at school. Not only are they doing it at school for that many hours, without enough breaks, but now what's to look forward to when you get home and its like your still at school, but without the help you need. If teachers don't have enough time to teach all of this stuff, then I guess they should offer you a homework class in school, because guess what? Students have lives too. You encourage them to join sports and clubs, but don't give them time by giving them homework? That seems unfair to me. I think I've made my point. Have a good day.
Many studies have been conducted over the course of decades on this subject. People who say that homework provides a student with preparation for the "real world" and say that it is necessary are not only misinformed, but possibly ignorant as well. Face the facts, from elementary to high school, homework has little to no benefit on the student. The only grade level that had a slight correlation between homework and grade averages was highschool. Even so, when more variables were added to the study, the correlation was lost. Research your stuff people!
I wake up at 5:30 so that I can be on time at school by seven. At school there is basically no chance to be a creative spirit, which I am. I sit down at my desk for seven and a half hours, we have twenty minutes to stuff food down our throats and try to be social. When I get home at 3:00 I have a snack and do my homework when I am completely finished it is around seven o'clock. I have dinner quickly then rush to finish the rest of my homework. I go to bed at 11:00 most nights, only to wake up at 5:30 in the morning, and not be so tired. I am very smart and intelligent but not in all my school subjects. I would do absolutely anything to go to a school and just do art. I am in seventh grade and I was forced to give up sports and friends just to finish homework. This is insane!
I'm in high school and yes it is useful but there is to much home work like yesterday I came home with 10 papers form just math and I'm in 8 grade -_- now I'm to stress out because I stay up Intel 12:00 got to school got 7 papers done and what does the teacher say there all wrong and I was looking in the book my dad got stress out from helping and now I got 11 paper do Friday and she does not explaining what is wrong with she said oh it wrong so I think we need less homework or none but it should be 1 paper a day and now super long like one of those paper is 1-46 that what I did and it is wrong because it is 2-46 evens so I have to redo it and now I'm so stress out that my chest is hurting from sitting at the table so long so we need homework but not to much. OR NONE AT ALL
Kids have better things to do like socialize. Kids need to know how to communicate with people and homework is preventing them from doing that. Kids also need to sleep and homework is keeping them up half the night. Kids also need to exercise or they will become obese and enough people are obese already
It will affect the parent teen bonding time and the stress of the due date being turned in at the right time or the students would get sad and upset no time to play with friends and loose opportunities of a life time the teacher stress to much about it coming back that kids stress out and get scared of school and don't want to learn so homework hurts kids learning it should no be given out schools for learning not home.
Home work is good for you but after school activities such as sports are better. Sports can help you mentally and athletically. It can also help you get a job when you are older. Homework it bacically is forcing students to go home after sports and be stressed out about math and science and social studies and language arts etc. In conclusion homework is stressful and should be banned or at least students should have less
1) It takes a lot of time and it causes less time for hobbies or activities.
2) Usually students finish their homework really late and it shortens their sleep time and it harms their health.
3) By not doing your homework you get a bad mark and it only disapoints you and you stop seeing a sense to do them.
Homework does help some people sometimes but in truth it can be a time waster. Instead of homework there should be an extra hour of school devoted to studying and finishing homework. My high school starts at 7:00 and ends at 2:00 most people wouldn't mind staying another hour if they had a school like this. Homework also causes problems with slower students as they take longer time than others to do homework and many times they may stay up late doing their homework. Although this is not true for everyone there is still the idea that homework does not help at all rather it hurts students by stressing them out when they get home. Students can be taught to take notes and study in class without the use of homework. The only thing students really need to do while at home for school is study or read not spend time in their room, living room, etc. Doing nothing but homework for many hours.
I think it should because, what if we wanted to do something with our friends after school, if we had homework we couldn't go with our friends we would have to stay home and not have fun. Homework is just to some kids boring and it's something that take away from our time to hang out with our friends.
Homework should be banned because people have lots of things to do at home.
Some people do sport after school. Sport training is sometimes on every night.
Some people have visitors over. My family sometimes pops in for a chat every now and then without us knowing.
Some people also like to hang out with friends allthe time.
In full, I think that no one should have to do homework, apart from the nerds that read every second.
When get ready to go home from school that means school is over. So I think we should not have homework for home when it means to do work at school. It just gets stressful even more when you get home. People should be relaxed when they get home period.
Unless the class is taught specifically through homework(homework being 70% or more of your grade) there is less motivation to do homework in general, and less care put into the work by those being forced to do it. This is especially prevalent when the homework is literally something that is time consuming and simple. Entering numbers into a calculator then putting the results in little boxes isn't teaching you anything other than how to use a calculator. That is all well and good, but the class isn't called "how to use a calculator" it's supposed to teach you how to do a specific type of math. If the answer can be figured out by pushing buttons, then let the programmers worry about the computers doing the math by pushing the buttons correctly, and recognizing what buttons to press. We don't need to train people to push buttons, we need to train people to understand concepts. Pushing buttons does not help with concepts, communication is what gets concepts across. Homework does not communicate with students, it ignores them and stares at them blank-faced while the student monotonously chugs through their repetitious questions.
Youth are at school for 8 hours, then you get home and do more work and the child has no time to do what they want except for the weekends. The whole reason for why we have teachers is because they are supposed to teach the kids how to do the work. Children are too young to be up at night doing a bunch of assignments and its not good for their health. That's not good for anyone's health. That's too much stress for a child who's still growing. All that work is teaching a child how to be stressed. The whole reason for why there's school is for the child to LEARN and that's it, why should they have homework when they have CLASSWORK? Class work at home? What the hell? If anything homework should be used for extra credit and not be mandatory.
Some of student from my country look stress because many homework. They need more relax. Some student look unhappy with homework because the stress and headache. Homework makes lazy to do and some student don't want to do it. Thats why i think homework shoul be banned and sometimes homework can help you for study and anything else.
First of all, I am not agreeing to the homework ban just because I don't want to do work, or because I am lazy. I am one who actually enjoys learning and advancing my mind. But since I already do it 5 days a week for 6-7 consecutive hours at a time, I think that when we are at home, we should have the freedom to do whatever we'd like without having to worry about extra work after just completing hours of it. They have taken school, a wonderful and creative concept, and have corrupted it into a place of nothing but deadlines and stress. So yes, I agree completely that homework should be banned.
(First thing, Pol Pot was a teacher)
Now, I'm sure most of these views will be coming from developed countries or countries with soft educational systems (such as the US nation or Oz), but I am speaking from India, where we have a strict education system and we barely get a half an hour or so for ourselves. I am a student of the seventh grade, studying in a ICSCE board which would give us a chance for IGCSE board in classes 10,11,12. Here,we have even more advance topics from an early age such as stereochemistry from class 7. We get loads of homework and even my mother is a teacher and she does support me but is forced by the school to give homework (feel sorry for you mom). For example during my final exams last year I had to finish my homework for Hindi while the exam next day was of physics. Though if homework is given in moderation, with a lot of teacher support, like a worksheet of maybe only 20 sums or similar amount and the teachers explaining it thoroughly, I believe a little practice is necessary such as only about two pages in total for a day, half for the weekends, and fun activities and projects us students might even take it seriously.I am a student and I dont want my only childhood spoilt . I've heard enough adults complaining how they took school too seriously, even succesfull ones .So cry all you want about your theories that it'll help us but when your children get frustrated you'll just have some chai and bicker about your son getting low grades.
I'm a high school student and my friends and I spend way too much time on homework. Weekends I don't feel like doing anything because it's a break! I don't want to do anything' ridiculous I don't want to write a paper that will take two hours JUST FOR ENGLISH. It's ludicrous.
Children haven't got enough time to spend with their parents because some go to work later than over. Some Children only see thair parents about 2 hours daily and that is not enough. A child needs time to rest and play and have some time of their own homework dosent help in that.
It creates stress in child's mind, less time is left for extracurricular nactivities.
Children get less time to sleepandplay, and sometimes they lose their imaginative power.
Childhood time is to enjoy not to do studies maximum time. An average child spend more time in school than at home and again he/she is stressed up with homework. Excess of anything is bad so sometimes it creates hatred in a child's mind for studies.
Most schools have six and a half hour days. The time outside of school hours is a time when kids should be able to relax and do what they want. Homework makes this impossible. Every minute of the day kids are forced to think about school and feel guilty if they have not completed their homework. If teachers cannot fit all the material into school hours, then maybe school hours should be increased. Personally I would rather spend more time at school and have no homework than have short school days but come home to work for another few hours. For one thing school is actually quite fun; students can work with their friends and seek help from teachers and peers when they need it. Completing schoolwork at home is the opposite of this. It is boring, often repetitive and sometimes not even relevant. When students have trouble with homework, they cannot seek help for another day, so they have to either randomly guess the answers or worry about not having completed their work and then quite possible get in trouble the next day for not having done their homework.
As a child, let's say, Grade two, you would typically find yourself having your first sleep-over, going on playdates, pretending you had a girlfriend, not to mention doing well in school.
But as it happened for me and many other kids, this is quickly snatched away by Grade three - when the prospect of homework now looms right under your nose, waiting to be filled with answers. Okay, let's be honest - it's pretty easy at first, but still, for children like me, who may have ODD or ADHD, it can become a real challenge and certainly take away the last little bit you enjoyed about school - going home.
When I got homework for the first time, I thought it'd be fun. It was exciting, I knew I'd do well, as I had been a year ahead in the work than my peers, thanks to the lovely teachers I had prior. I got it, and whizzed through it in about ten minutes (yes, I know it's easy at first). One little mistake caused my grade three teacher to flip out - I was detained that afternoon for the first time IN GRADE THREE, mind you. That put me on a bad path.
I struggled to do work after that. The teachers gradually got angrier and angrier with me as my oppositional defiant disorder became worse and worse, and in about two years I was way ahead to way behind, and I was getting suspended at least once a month and detained at least once a week. That was only grade six; it was only the beginning. I'm now in Year nine and am failing all of my subjects but two, averaging one suspension every two weeks and detentions ONCE PER DAY (not that I show up, or anything.)
Now, before I continue, I'm just putting it out there that homework shouldn't be banned because I'M having all of these issues of having my future taken away from me because of my uncontrollable stubbornness that nobody recognises, but rather because of another reason - ALL kids miss out on having a good time.
It's the hour and a half we get, five days a week when we actually get to talk to friends and be ourselves - children. Other than that, it's just going home (again, for all kids) and sitting at the desk, getting ready to do homework, which can take away from not only our childhood, but also sleep and availability for sports and other activities for perhaps focusing on a child's dream.
So what have we learned? It takes away from our childhood and potentially, future. Finland banned homework and is known for the best education system worldwide - is it time for us to do the same?
Students can never (not saying all but most) apply what they have learned in the real world because they are to busy doing homework. Its a waste of time, and is probably one of the many reasons why many children don't look forward to going to school. I think that children should relax once they have come home so they will be refreshed for the next day of learning. Doing homework will often leave you frustrated and irritated, and so, you will not look forward to the next day of school. Forcing knowledge and learning onto to someone with statements such as "It prepares you for life" or "You will get into a good college" isn't going to make the person care more or less about their feelings to school. Unless it comes from within, you won't be happy.
You already have to go to school for 6 hours, and then they assign you homework? I've been told by all my teachers that after school is my own time, so why should we be doing school work after school when it is our own personal time? We need the time to socialize and be active and play outside.
Previous generations are out of touch with the reality of the education system today. The kids are there about 8 hours a day 5 days a week -- roughly the equivalent of a full-time job. Add the absurd "two hours of study/homework for every one hour of class time" or similar mantra, and kids never have any time to just be kids. Believe it or not, kids can learn without dedicating every waking hour of the day to class, homework, and studying for tests.
It's even worse when you get to college. For graduating seniors especially, sleep deprivation is the norm. This is due entirely to the sheer quantity of busy work, not necessarily due to the material itself being challenging.
I graduated from college a couple years ago. Oddly enough, I have far more free time as a working adult than I ever did as a student. I go to bed by 11 every night and sleep in until 7 every morning. I have 5+ hours of free time every evening to take care of personal things. And I'm getting paid. This is a dream compared to my college years.
The THEORY is great, but in REALITY, it usually benefits no one. Homework is supposed to be a review of the material learned in class. I support doing 10-15 math problems, maybe writing a paper every 2 weeks, or taking notes that are due on Fridays. But, many schools are implementing "21st century learning" in which the classroom is flipped - kids are learning the class materials/procedures at home and reviewing at school. We teach ourselves, then do assignments, and then check them in class. Teachers should teach, not do away with, but limit homework.
Everyone remembers their high school years in one way or another. One commonality is angst, excessive schoolwork, pressure, and a multitude of after school activities. High school kids already have enough worries.
On My Average School Week, I spend four to five hours doing homework per day. Now Add that to my time in school, which is seven hours and 30 minutes. So that’s around 12 hours. Plus 8, which is the time I spend sleeping, it becomes 20 hours. Now, that leaves me four hours for free time. But then again I have piano for one hour.... So that leaves me three. But then again I have spring soccer, so.. That leaves me ... One hour. Yay! Finally ! One hour! But I need that hour to transition from soccer to piano to school to my house... So that leaves me.. 30 minutes. 30 minutes of “free time.”
This is why Homework should be banned.
Some teachers say homework helps review what you did that day. However, When I learn something in class, I mark it down and my brain remembers it. I don’t just suddenly forget it the next day. I don’t need homework to remind me what we did that exact day. We spend 45 minutes on one subject, I’m pretty sure that I don’t just forget it the minute I exit the school doors.
Now, I get it if you are a student and you have a project due tomorrow, and you didn’t finish it in class. Of course you have to do that at home, unless you want to have an F on that project. But what I don’t get is when we get a worksheet to do at home, that we didn’t even have time to do at school. That piles on our worksheets, our uncompleted class work, and our tests that we need to study for. It’s just too much! It stresses a student out and makes him/her hate school even more.
When students have hours of homework, they don’t get enough sleep, sunlight, and exercise. There is a lot of talk about global warming and how us kids are the ones who should take a step. Well how are we going to have time for that when we are locked up in our rooms doing hours of our endless homework? How are we going to have time to do any good to the world when we barely have time to do our homework? If teachers stopped giving homework, sure, some students will still be locked up in their rooms playing video games, but some of us, might be outside, exploring what’s out there. Helping people in need, selling lemonade for charity, playing outside, breathing in fresh air (even though that’s not the case in china) maybe even getting small babysitting jobs or other small jobs that will teach us how the real world is like.
Would you rather have kids doing homework 24/7 until midnight or would you rather see kids playing outside, running, and maybe even helping others?
This, is why homework should be banned.
Creative play and imagination are vital for a child's development. Why should this be jeopardized over something some think of as 'achievement'? Children need time to relax in the same way adults do when they come home from a hard day's work. What is the system afraid of: children having a good time, or expressing their own free will? A quote from Albert Einstein, "Imagination is more important than knowledge. It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education."
Homework is the cause for most stress among students, especially when they do not understand a subject. When students feel they have too much homework, their grades can suffer, which may lead to negative effects in other areas of their lives. If students were better rested, they would show up for school and be more prepared to participate.
Something needs to change in order for effective learning to happen during the school day, without the need for additional work at home. Students are expected to spend most of this time sitting and listening and the curriculum is gradually squeezing out almost all physical education. Most children come home exhausted, tired and hungry. They need to relax and use up their contained physical energy in the very short space of time left in the day after out-of-school activities.
Many students need time and experience to develop the study habits that support
learning, and homework can provide that, but what about the students that are doing it wrong and then have to “unlearn” a subject? When children are given homework and are unable to do it it destroys most of their intellectual knowledge and creative capacity. Destroying this capacity above all by making them afraid, afraid of not doing what other people want, or not pleasing, of making mistakes, of failing, or being wrong.
Since most homework assignments are just busywork, learning often becomes a chore rather than a positive, constructive experiment. For some families, it’s even difficult to figure out how to carve out the time that children need to complete homework assignments, especially when there are assignments over the course of the weekend. Homework overload is also affecting family life- a lot of kids can’t even make it to dinner, and as a result, the only interaction they have with their parents involves arguments about homework.
Books like “the End of Homework”, “the Homework Myth”, and “the Case Against Homework” and the film “Race to Nowhere” make the case that homework, by taking away precious family time and putting kids under unneeded pressure, is an ineffective way to help children become better learners and thinkers.
Alfie Kohn, author of the article “Does Homework Improve Learning?” and the recently published book "the Homework Myth: Why Our Kids Get So Much of a Bad Thing", states that there is no real evidence that homework is beneficial to students, he writes that he ‘found no connection between homework and improved standardized assessment scores’.
Homework can cause stress for both children and parents. It can be the cause of frustration and conflict. Humans are social animals and it would give us more time to socialize. We believe it is a waste of time because enough time is pent during the school day. It can have a negative effect on our hobbies.
After a seven-hour long day at school, many kids are exhausted from waking up at the crack of dawn and learning for seven hours straight. Most students also have after school activities like clubs and sports. Adding homework to the mix just adds on even more frustration and stress. I believe that students work hard enough as it is.
Some students have hard time at home as well, like arguing families, single parents, sick family members or mental illnesses. It has also been proven that homework gets in the way of a child and their families relationships.
Homework is always in the back of your mind, even in times where your supposed to be relaxing, such as the holidays or the weekend. More than half of the students don’t take homework seriously and rush to get it over with anyway. Children need time to let all they have learned sink in. Your only young for a small amount of time, and after that you don’t get the opportunity to play and be active and hang out with your friends. If homework is taking up a massive part of your life then it’s a waste of the small amount of years you actually have before you get a job then grow old. Instead, kids should be playing outside with their friends; having fun and being active.
Banning homework would benefit the lives of parents, students and teachers all at the same time. Studying, reading a book and practising an instrument at home is good and should be mandatory, but the additional revision homework has got to go. People will have their own opinions on this, but if you agree, then spread the word. If you don’t, then get back to your desk. Your homework is waiting.
Large amounts of homework causes nothing but loathing for school/teachers, and a lack of interest. I know from experience. I have come to love and respect teachers who give little homework. I appreciate that they respect that i have a life outside of school, and so i make an extra effort to do well in their classes. It also takes away from time spent with family and friends, which can damage kid's social skills and emotional state. I say, homework has got to go.
Homework should be banned because its a waste of time if their is no supervisor to help you. It just helps you to 'revise', but 'over-revision' will stuff up your mind (personal experience). At the moment I'm in year 8 and homework is like a prickly thorn in my backside. Instead of being social, I'm stuck at home with Asian parents forcing me to do my homework.
The following information comes from personal experience. I feel like a slave, waking up to go to school at like 5 Am, staying at school for 6+ hours, and coming home to do homework. My school has required sports after school so I arrive home at like 5. I need time to take a shower, eat dinner, and sleep! Also, many people may argue, "It helps review the lesson learned in class and it prepares us for the next day." Wow.....Isn't that what school is for? We learn the lessons AT school and do reviews in the 6 hours provided (perhaps more). It may be an "easy A" but if a student doesn't understand the material, he/she doesn't have the teacher at their side to explain. Also, once again, we have tests, worksheets, and other "easy A's" AT SCHOOL. Homework should be a punishment, and we should only have it to study for a test or something. Also, it is "building my character" by making me a stressed grump who looks at school negatively. I feel oppressed and controlled, and tired from the lack of sleep, so please excuse my grammatical errors (I don't need grammar homework, thank you.) Homework, for me, could be hindering my grades. Homework should be severely reduced. Also, notice how the more homework we get, the more the teachers have to grade?
I have never seen a study that proves that homework is, in any way, useful. In the past 10 minutes I've seen approximately 40 proving that it is useless AND harmful.
I am not convinced.
So, if the hours I'm spending on homework aren't helping me, and are, in fact, both lowering my test scores and health, then they're being wasted. Time is money. And my time is being stolen from me.
I have almost flunked classes because of homework. I have 2-3 hours every night, and it sucks. I cannot have time with friends often because of homework. We spend 7 hours every day at school, then go home and spend three hours on homework. Every day, I am tired from homework. It needs to stop.
Homework should be banned because I'm doing sports, hanging out with my friends and helping around the house. I can't do these things because of homework, this message is because of homework! I'm tired after school and I want to do things with my parents and they say "after your homework is done. "And it's time for dinner and I can't do things with my own parents.
Yes, homework should be banned because as a middle school student, I feel that I would do a LOT better on my assignments if I didn't have to stress over getting my homework done or else I will not get all A's, which will take away privileges, ultimately leading to even MORE stress and even WORSE grades.
Many parents may not know how their child is doing at school. On the other hand parents may not be able to ask their child how they are doing at school. Would you rather do homework or go fishing with your family? By Andrea in the sixth grade. This is my point of view
1. You dont get enough time to do anything
2. We already work at school so why do more?
3. It puts pressure and stress on kids.
4. Causes obesity
this is why we should ban homework, I mean who wants all of that stress and work that we already do at school?
I have a friend that gets a lot of anxiety about homework everyday, it gives many students stress. Whether it be the procrastinating, last minute doer(me), or a 'must get perfect grade' student like my friend. Actually I want to say that the amount of homewok should be limited or be more interesting, but the number of classes and stubbornness of teachers might cancel that out so why not ban all homework. Why is it that we spend about half our day in school and have not a lot of time to do what we want at home. Because of homework people like me are getting much less sleep and have trouble paying attention in class. I know homework is supposed to teach responsibility and such but some people just cant be taught.
Honestly, I disagree with those who wish to keep scraps of destroyed trees and force children to write on voting assignments. Let's face it. 8 hours of school and other activities with importance can't fit in with it. It does not improve a child's intelligence. Why? Because the Human brain, especially a kid's, needs to stimulate. And you can't put the fears of failing it with this. It does not work. It only makes a child disgust schooling even more. It should be banned.
Kids, as we all remember, find homework stressful. I remember waking up at 7 am in the morning, arriving at school at 8 am. Working 6 hours of hard work, to come home and have been assigned another part of my hard earned free time for "school chores". Parents should be able to decide whether their child needs homework. After all, they see their child's grades. They should be the ones who choose if their child requires some "additional help" in certain subjects.
Homework should be banned because kids should be spending my time outside instead of being in a class room for 6 hours they could be just enjoying being a kid. They have plenty of time to have homework when they to an older age!! That's why I think homework should be banned!
Teachers are just wasting their time giving kids homework. We all know that nobody does their homework. Studies have shown that homework doesn't do anything for kids. I'm so tired of teachers wasting their energy grading papers when all most of us kids do is copy off of one another. When will teachers learn that all we kids are dumb idiots.
Teacher: Why did you not study?
Student: A year has 365 days for you to study. After taking away 52 Sundays, there are only 313 days left. There are 50 days in the summer that is way too hot to work so there are only 263 days left. We sleep 8 hours a day, in a year, that counts up to 122 days so now we're left with 141 days. If we fooled around for only 1 hour a day, 15 days are gone, so we are left with 126 days. We spend 2 hours eating each day, 30 days are used in this way in the year, and we are left with 96 days in our year. We spend 1 hour a day speaking to friends and family, that takes away 15 days more and we are left with 81 days. Exams and tests take up at least 35 days in your year, hence you are only left with 46 days. Taking off approximately 40 days of holidays, you are only left with 6 days. Say you are sick for a minimum of 3 days, you're left with 3 days in the year to study! Let's say you only go out for 2 days... You're left with 1 day. But that 1 day is your birthday.
Students spend their lives doing homework. I know from experience that homework is always a conflict in my busy life. And thus, my home life suffers because the homework is always an issue. Its stressful for everyone even involved in my life. It holds me back from doing what I want to do with my own time. Isn't 8 hours of school a day enough?!
Excessive amounts of homework can be harmful to kids both physically and mentally. A lot of homework usually means a lot of books to carry. Fifty-five percent of children surveyed by researchers at Simmons College carry loads heavier than fifteen percent of their body weight, the suggested limit. Carrying large amounts of weight daily at a young age can do a lot of damage because bones are still in development. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has reported that in 1999, more than 800 kids were treated in emergency rooms for backpack-related injuries. Many of these injuries can lead to serious problems later in life including chronic shoulder, neck, and back pain. The large amount of homework is causing kids in both high school and primary school can be up until midnight or later. When extracurricular activities such as sports, clubs, etc., are added to the picture, kids may even have to wake up early the next morning to finish their homework, leaving them with an insufficient amount of sleep. Some parents and teachers argue that it would be beneficial to a child’s academics to limit after school activities. However, cutting back on the few hours a week teenagers use for exercise could be a factor in the growing obesity rates. The number of children who are overweight has doubled in the last two to three decades; currently one child in the age of 5 is overweight. These children are faced with even more problems in school than homework. Instead of learning and concentrating on their work, many children are teased and end up developing low self of steam and even depression. The factors in this growing rate are most certainly due to the lack of movement occurring in today’s children. With more and more homework being assigned, kids simply do not have enough time for the proper amount of exercise
Homework also takes away from time that a kid could be spending with his or her family. Rather than spending time bonding and building strong family relationships, parents and children argue over homework. Time is taken away from important elements of daily life. This time is particularly precious in families with two working parents whose time with their children is limited. This time could be better spent going out to dinner as a family, or doing other activities that most families are not able to do because the kids don’t have time to take a break from their homework schedule. . Overwhelming kids with loads of homework can cause them stress and possible physical injury. Homework takes away from the small amount of time kids get to spend with their parents and siblings. A limit on their physical and social activities can also take a large toll on their lives, and could ruin their health and future relationships.
When assignments are given carelessly and frequently, it causes students to lose interest in the subject. Negative results can also occur when a student is not able to complete his\her homework.
We shouldn't have to do homework. It is extremely stressful and is too much for us. It is not necessary for us to do since we already have enough on us. I have missed a lot of family activities because of homework and studying. It is unnecessary for us to do more than we should. We are like slaves.
Kids are actually becoming obese from homework. They are spending their time inside doing homework instead of exercising, and when they're finished, they have no time left to play. Then, at recess, they have their 30 minutes of freedom taken away because that deep blue sky outside was too difficult to ignore, and they have to finish up their homework.
After a long day at school, many are exhausted from waking up very early and learning for six hours straight. Most students also have after school activities like sports and clubs. Adding homework just adds on even more frustration and stress.
Some students have difficulty at home as well, which adds on to the stress.
It has also been proven that homework interferes with the lives of kids and their parents, and that it is counter-productive.
Students come home from a long day of school with hours of homework and don't have any time for themselves. Students have obligations at home they need to complete and cant because homework is always in the way. I stay after school until 5 pm because of tutorials and come straight home to do my homework, eat, shower, and sleep because I have school the next day and I need to wake up at 5 am! I don't have anytime for myself and on weekends we have to attend to many things and wake up early also. I'm not just speaking for myself because I'm sure there are many more teens that are more stressed than me.
I'm a student at Sylvandale Middle School I know I am still young but I truly believe homework should be banned. The reason is when I get home I don't want to do even more work even though I already have practice in class and also need some rest or spend time with family.
So I do homework every single night and I get 4 hours per night, with ABSOLUTELY NO parental help, my dad lives in Australia and my mum says 'just do it and show me' and so I cant do it, teachers often give homework not knowing how much they have been given already, often resulting in up to 5 hours per night and I am sick of it, the same old 'do your homework or I will confiscate your Wii U,' and I get that same saying all the time, I have it on my schools website and when my laptop is confiscated, I can do nothing but watch all of my items get confiscated. Oh sad times
I am bombarded with loads of homework every single day. It's especially hard when you are out sick. Isn't home a place to lay back and relax from a hard day at school? We do work at school, so why do we need to do it at home? Studying is not considered homework in my book, it's something you just do. Besides, teachers don't want to go to the trouble of grading and checking our homework. I am stressed out the most with homework, I can't think and my head is fuzzy. Also, homework makes us miss out on other things. When I was sick, I was trying to do a mountain of homework with a headache. In other words, stop giving homework. I love math homework and actually all homework, but the amounts are plain dead unreasonable. A lot of kids stay up until mid night trying to finish their homework, then they only get 5 hours of sleep, and because of that they can't do their best at school. Instead, they put their head on the desk and fall asleep.
Homework should be banned for many reasons. One of them being that you already work hard at school, kids shouldn't have to go home and do MORE work. If there were no homework, I would most likely have straight a's. Another reason is that kids should be able to have free time when they get home. I rarely ever get to go outside and hangout with my friends because of homework. In conclusion, if homework were banned life would be better.
Not only is homework consuming peoples lives but is decreasing health and well being, not to mention ruining students joy for school! The amount of homework giving to students is increasing rapidly, before we know it we wont be able to tell the difference between home and school. Returning home from school used to be joyous, I could play outside with friends and siblings, but now am faced with loads of homework and instead of being health outside in the fresh air I am hunched over books becoming more stresses by the minute. I used to enjoy school, looking forward to school but now I am still tiered from staying up all night to complete homework and I dread going to school as I know I will get more.
I believe that homework should be banned for alot of reasons but one of the biggest reasons is that you dont get enough family time. I have found i am becoming more aggresive and rude to my family as i went into high school. I am in yr 8 and get wayyyy to much homework. I am constantly in my room doing homework because there is too much. My parents threatend to stop my dancing if my grades and homework and the effort i put in at home doesnt improve.
Every kid knows that great feeling you get when its one minute until the final bell rings. It should end there, the bell rings school's out and its time to relax. In these this is far from the case. When that bell rings it just means that there is more work to look ahead to. These kids are already working a 30 hour week (6hours times 5 days) then you add THIS onto it. The worst is that at home, many kids cannot get the help they need because parents are busy or can't help because they don't know.
Homework has a lot of advantages but it also has some disadvantages.
1. Some people don't do homework because some times they think that teachers are not going to check. That's why instead of giving homework to do at home they should have them do it at school. It can help students concentrate more and if they needed some advice or help, they could ask the teacher. It would help them better understand what they are learning. Kids tend to not do their homework when they are confused or when they need help with he homework. The trusty ole teachers would be there to help them if they do their homework at school.Kids don't have that much assistance for their homework when their parents or siblings aren't there to help them.
2.Kids also have some personal issues and other reasons like work to stop them from completing their homework. It can be a tragic loss in their life like a death or injury or simply a visit to grandma's.They lose some of their time from doing homework there. There are some kids that have hockey, soccer or other matches or games that might be important to them that they don't want to miss. Some parents also don't want their kids to miss that swimming lesson.
3.If they have too much homework, they won't have time to do that math homework and study for the history test. That often leads to a huge pileup. It can also lead to confusion. With all that homework to do they might get mixed up with History and math.If you have to spend too much time on homework ,then you're not going to have chances to do other things. It can also make you get lower grades. If you stay up all night doing homework then when you go to class, you are probably going to be very tired. Then, you can't pay attention properly in class.
I say this because most students are lazy and don't care about homework and just don't want to get the work done. Teachers struggle on getting students to turn homework in on time but some are giving up because so many students don't like homework. Some think that it is a waste of time and they don't get enough time to spend with family and they don't get enough time to sleep.
Homework should be banned because we already have enough work at school. If we do work sheets at school its like doing homework at home but saving us the time. We can get enough education at school to get rid of homework. I think it should be banned. What do you think?
I think this because why should kids be wasting their time doing work at home if they already learned the whole day? I mean honestly, teachers are always saying how you should get involved in sports and after school activities, yet they assign us homework that is exactly what we did in class. I find homework pointless, and it doesnt improve our education at all.
I think that teachers should NOT assign homework to students simlpy beacuse kids need time to be kids, go hang out at a local community center with friends, bike, skateboard. We don't need extra curriculum unless we really want to. I think it is the students choice if they want extra marks for the future but if you decide not to take the homework it will not effect your grade. If kids are stuck in the house all day doing homework they have no chance to be healthy active kids. What is done at school should stay at school not be carried on to personal life.
I think that homework should be banned because without homework kids can take the easy life but with it it tears family's apart. It can make our loving parents look like the bad guys when they enforce doing homework. It makes kids groan and hate the teacher that gives them the assignment and it can really make our childhood a pain.
School homework should be banned for the reason of taking up all our time and not allowing us to do what we want as children or preteens. Also studies show that homework and studying does not effect the grades of preteens or children and therefore should be banned. Also it takes too much time and also our parents can't help us, only your teacher can accurately help with the homework, so it should be banned.
Homework is like extended school! If you have been at school all day, there should be no reason for doing schoolwork at home. Some people may learn better without homework, while some people can learn better with homework. Schools should give us that choice. We should have time for our hobbies. All of us learn better by doing things that we like. By hobbies, I do not mean video games, but perhaps Legos, or a sport. I feel that homework should be banned
After a long day at school, students are forced to go home and work, or they're punished. If students have already studied what they're doing as homework in the daytime, and then go home to do more of the same, it doesn't benefit them. When it comes to a test, pupils have often forgotten that work, because they only did one day of it.
Instead of doing homework right when you go home you could be playing outside or playing sports or even being with family so isn't that more important? If it isn't why kids shouldn't be doing homework that's the stuff that they should be doing at school so their should not be homework!
American history is all lies. The US government lied to us about the atomic bomb. They constantly send us to wars that we don't support (i.E. Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Afganistan, etc.) The FDA is trying to kill us with it's high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, GMOs, etc. The T.V. Is basically mind control. The Americans slaughtered the Native Americans. The Americans practiced slavery. I don't know what this has to do with homework, but I am so tired of learning about American history.
I value life. I value experience. I also value sleep. I value my friends. I value my time. I value my family. I value myself. I value knowledge. However, I can learn just as fine without homework. I can teach myself all I want to know on the awesomeness of the internet! The subjects I want to go in depth are not taught in school! What's the point? (Maybe I'm just mad at homework because I have a bad case of senioritis? (In junior year!)
I feel I learn more on the internet than I do at school. The school has limited knowledge compared to personal experiences and human communication. I like learning about ancient cultures and their ancient wisdom, which they rarely teach in school. I also like to learn about the complete 'connectivity' of the human body. I like to learn natural methods for common diseases, instead of relying on the corrupt FDA.
It is so annoying to come home and to have school for an extra three hours. I feel that if they should be any homework it should take less than 15 mins.Waking up in the morning and knowing that school is nine hours now is absurd. This why homework should be banned.
Kids should not have to do additional work when they are already in school for 6-7 hours. Kids have to have time to themselves and not sacrificed for school. Work piles can get so large that it could affect sleep and thus the child's performance in school the next day.
If teachers are doing their job right, students should be able to understand 90% of the material after the lesson is done. Once you understand you know it. And homework or revision should be a maximum of 1 hour if they are going to keep homework. Although I believe homework should be banned because teachers are not aware of what a child finds easy or difficult. They have a one-size-fits-all attitude to homework. Which is not true. Some kids are way ahead they need to be working on something ahead of where they're at. Some kids are behind and they need to work on homework that reflects where they're at. If homework can't be banned then teachers really need to let the students choose what they do for homework. They need to make learning a choice, not a chore.
I think homework should be banned because it is boring and most kids don't try hard so they practice wrong habits for life. Usually it does more harm than good in my opinion. I think school work is enough, it does most of the work. That's why homework should be banned.
Students are losing sleep. I'm a student and I'm losing lots of sleep due to homework. It is also killing trees. Homework can be very stressful. Homework also, prevents students from spending time with their friends and family. Homework stress also lowers your test grades. And in most schools, if your absent for a day, you'd get your homework from the previous night and no one would explain what to do so your left clueless. Homework is not necessary at all! Why would you get extra work for something you already reviewed? Homework isn't necessary and I'm losing sleep because of it.
Yes. It totally should. Who likes it? It sucks. All it does is cause stress throughout the whole house. It cuts out on your physical activity too. All homework does is cause negative affect all around it. It also cuts out on all your family time. Who likes to be left out in memories. No one. I think homework should be banned once and for all.
It puts too much stress on students. It cuts in to students social and private lives and leaves little free time. Homework can also lead too depression. Other countries have already banned homework. Lower test scores have also been found to be related to too much homework. Teachers should have already taught the information and not just make students do it on their own.
Homework can cause stress and arguments... It should be banned right away. School is six hours, that's a lot of time, once you get home you think you're free but then you remember you have homework. It takes time off of physical education and causes the student to sometimes stay up late or argue with their parents. HOMEWORK MUST BE BANNED!!!!
School should be like a full time job. You work for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and then you're done. No extra work to do outside of your "job." In the "real" world of adults and jobs, you work for 8 hours, and then you go home and have 16 hours of free time in which to be with your family and friends, eat, and sleep. Why is schoool any different? Students are at school for 6 hours and then they get home and have 2-8 hours of school work and studying. Now, studying is a different story, as it is something students choose to do to prepare for upcoming exams. Longer school days would give more time to teachers for them to teach. Students may have less focus because of the longer day, but it is likely this lack of focus would disappear because of the lack of school work to do once school is over.
Long story short, school is a full-time job. Why is it treated differently?
I'm going to be a junior in highschool I'm a good student in school but I failed 5 classes this past year. Freshman year I was a honor student. Then I was diagnosed with chrones disease and have pain every day with my stomach and chronic diarrheal. The reasoning is stress causes my ulcers to flair. Thus giving me my diarreah. After a 8 hour school day. I had pages of school work to do but my body couldn't handle it. I was put on a medical 504 plan and on home bound. The teachers didn't help at all. Now I have 5 classes to make up plus a medical condition to deal with and this year to do. Homework point blank hurts me
The thing is, we are doing the exact same thing we are doing in school at home. I'm in my last year of primary school and I'm getting a ridiculous amount of homework for my age. On a normal day I can spend up to 1 hour doing sheets, spelling lists and online programs, such as math online. I also play an instrument which conflicts with a lot of my English lessons meaning I get even more homework. Another key point is that I'm fairly smart so if it takes me 1 hour to do my homework, think how long it would take for someone who is having troubles with school to finish. So eventually everyone is staying up to 12:00 doing the exact same thing you've been doing at school for 6 hours.
To start let me say that I am in the tenth grade in regular classes. Every day I stay up on average until 11 or 12 o clock doing homework. This coupled with getting up at 5:00 every morning is a huge stressor. Every time I get ahead, another teacher throws me another assignment. When I will ever have time for actually living a so called "normal life" let alone anything more is beyond me. I wont even delve into the amount of assignments I get during the summer. If this is what high school is like I really don't know If I can deal with college.
Homework should be banned for obvious reasons.
Homework causes stress, anxiety, depression and even lower grades.
Homework is torture of the 21st century.
You already have 6-7 hours of school a day. I think that homework on top of that is just ridiculous.
I think school should be reduced to 5 hours a day and homework to banned.
Homework reinforces children's perception of learning as labor.
If children are made to do homework, they will, at a very early age, begin to associate learning, education, and the school system with mindless labor and busy work. This discourages children from wanting to learn more, because they will not see learning for the opportunity it is; they will merely see it as a job they are FORCED to do.
Homework is just so boring and hard that is why i say yes we should ban homework. So boring and hard. So boring and hard. So boring and hard. So boring and hard. So boring and hard. So boring and hard. So boring and hard. So boring and hard. :)
Homework gives students lots of stress, and no free time. Stress obviously doesn't make people smarter. Finland, Japan, and more other countries don't have homework, but those countries are one of the smartest in the world. Kids NEED to have lots of time to play and rest. Instead, they should have a workshop.
Homework sometimes has nothing to do with the work you are doing at school. Children can have a lower self esteem because they could be getting all the answers wrong and it is just making them feel worse whereas at school a teacher can help them. This is why homework should be banned.
Children don't need work at home to prove that they are capable of doing the certain skill given by themselves. Also the ink to print hundreds of copies of the homework assignment can be extremely expensive. At home, the teachers don't know if the student is REALLY doing the work themselves. They could just be using a calculator for math, a dictionary for spelling, etc. Lastly, homework can be challenging to find time to do it for children with lots of after school activities, disabilities, working parents, etc.
I am a high school junior, every day I get 12+ pages of homework minimum. Because I cannot possibly do all of this and help around the house as I am the only one able to do so, and therefore I have no time to study my material and therefore my test grades suffer as a result...
Do you people have any idea how much you ruin childhood when you overload them with ridiculous amounts of work children show have free time and have their needs not slaving away miserable second of all when they come home that's family time not homework your ruining family time thirdly you are stressing them out and stress can lead to being overwhelmed overwhelmed can then lead to tears then finally the child feel ill is this what we want for our children NO we want them to learn and we want them to be healthy and happier and as teacher im dead against homework it does teach anything at all and ruins family and their time is wasted by learning nothing if they must do this say in understand for importance learning that's what classroom for not home my opinion ban homework no more tears no more stress full stop now!!
What's point giving children heaps of work when they find it boring they will not learn anything second of all homework does cause stress and overwhelms child thirdly not all parents want to see their children be in tears or upset I was teacher once to disabled children I don't believe overloading them stressful work others wise they don't want to learn how would you feel if you had come home with ruck sack filled with lots of books that are so boring even you would not find it interesting and someone keeps piling you up with ridiculous amounts of work I think its wrong to do this to children at age 5,188.8.131.52.10 or even in their teen years ;lets face it if children are interested they want to learn if they not its wrong to overload them with stress and pressure so If you want my opinion homework should be banned if there's work to do in school do in classroom not at home let child live have fun as much as possible in their childhood not ruin it by stressing them out with books of work very wrong so lets give them break ban home work put stop to tears and stress
It takes too much time. I have not enough family time to spend playing games, opening presents, playing with my little sisters or to spend time with my mom or dad. I think homework takes too much time. I want more free time, less homework, and more time with my friends, my dog or outside with nature
I have to spend my time out of school doing extra school work(if school wasn't enough) and I also do lots of sports so I find it hard to complete lots of homework when I don't have the time and when I do have time I like to rest or do something I enjoy doing because I don't want my life to revolve around schoolwork.
There is absolutely no evidence that homework helps kids learn. In fact, kids who do homework actually score lower on tests than kids who do not do their homework. It adds overwhelming stress to kids who have social lives and end up freaking out and having breakdowns because they didn't have enough time to finish 150 sum odd pages of homework due the next day.
Because it takes all kids freedom and having fun away, weekends and holidays are for relaxing, not studying even more and it makes them lose connections with their friends and also stresses the child and makes their life more frustrating and less fun. School days are for learning, don't force them to do any more work.
Children may already know the topic or subject of the homework given to them and kids need relaxation and time to give their brains a break too. It's hard enough having to get up early in the morning for school and coming home afterwards with homework. It's just not right!
Children r really busy these days they need some tym to relax too i even alwayz stick myself to books and i even dont get tym to relax so hw should definately be banned i just hate hw guys try n understand students r also human not machines tht they will complete the given task in the limited tym
As a student, I can speak for myself and many others when I say I am completely capable of sitting and listening in class and remembering my lessons. I do not need to bring three books home and two packets full of work so the school can ensure that I "understand fully." That is what tests can determine, and those are done in school. I already come home exhausted, being pressured to finish homework in a short amount of time and getting an excellent grade adds unneeded stress. I think a binder of notes and more chances to interact with classmates upon a subject, and more time to study in school with more quizzes and tests, would suffice.
Homework... If you can't get all the work done in one lesson then extend the hours! Homework demotivates kids. Class work is often made a tad more exciting by adding challenges and competitions but homework is just boring, it has no excitement whatsoever. Please just make it fun and it may motivate children
Don’t assign homework and I haven’t for the last four years. It’s been a slow journey, because it runs against a very powerful ideology within the United States. Here are ten reasons to abolish homework:
1. Young Children Are Busy: If a child cannot learn what needs to be learned in a six hour day, we are expecting too much of a child. We are creating a jam-packed hurried day without a chance to play, reflect and interact. Adding hours to an already busy day is absurd.
2. Older Children Are Even More Busy: So if younger students need a chance to play, the reality is that many older students are busy with extracurricular activities,
3. Inequitable Situation: I have some students who go home to parents that can provide additional support. I have others who go home and babysit younger siblings while their single parent works a second shift. I have some who don’t have adequate lighting, who constantly move and who lose electricity on a regular basis. Call those excuses if you want. I’ll call it systemic injustice instead.
4. Kids Need to Play: My son loves school. He loves the chance to learn to read, write and think in a way that is different from how I engage him. However, when he comes home, he needs to ride a bike, throw a ball or climb a tree.
5. Creates Adversarial Roles: It is possible for homework (or rather home learning) to be a positive force. However, when a parent is stuck as a practitioner of someone else’s pre-planned learning situation, it becomes an issue of management.
6. Motivation: It is possible to provides students with meaningful learning experiences after school. However, if that’s the case, why make it mandatory? Why not say, “I offer tutoring if you need help” or “here’s an idea of something you might want to pursue on your own?” When I was in high school, I wrote pages upon pages of poetry, a novel (never even told an adult) and countless short stories. It was, on some level, self-directed homework. And honestly, I would have allowed a teacher that I trusted to provide feedback. However, if the process had been formalized, I would have kept all of that even more underground.
7. Homework Doesn’t Raise Achievement: I know Marzano looked at one study and concluded that homework works. However, Duke University’s study (by Harris Cooper) concluded that homework does not increase achievement and it often decreases it instead. I spent some time looking at the “studies” regarding homework and they all point to a correlation rather than a causal relationship between homework and achievement. The bottom line is that the research is sketchy at best.
8. Most Homework Is Bad: Most homework recreates school within the confines of a home. So, instead of having children do interviews, analyze a neighborhood or engage in culinary math, the traditional approach involves packets.
If kids have heaps of subjects they then don't get outside and play. Kids need to run around otherwise they will get obese and lazy. If kids only worked at school and played at home they would work better at school because they then have the energy to work hard. It's all right if they are studying for exams because that is a different story.
I'm in the 8th grade. The school year just started and my life has been taken over already! Each day we have to sit through 7 hours of (what seems like) eternal suffering. I have severe depression and school is to blame. And no, I am not bullied, it's the homework that gets me. I slept at 11:30 last night, finishing up 5 stories in my text book, 5 graphic organizers, 2 math worksheets, and to sum it up, I had to study for an English quiz tomorrow. Now, studying is nothing one can control, but the nerve of my teacher (who happens to treat every student like an uneducated bloke) assigning us that amount of homework the night before a quiz, that is what really upsets me. I am now regularly seeing a therapist, for the purpose of this subject.
Homework is a waste of time because after school is to get to know your friends. School is for learning
NOT home. (Unless you are home-schooled) Why do our parents pay to teach us our homework? I get research for a test or something but not something I already know!
There should be no homework because it takes up too much of a childs childhood. You only have one childhood so live it too the full. You have the rest of your life to worry about homework. Homework is boring and time comsuming and should not be given to children.
A lot of students get there brain fried because of homework. Some of them even get brain damage.
Homework can cause especial stress which causes great harm in our lives. It also has a bad effect on our lives such as headaches and tiredness. Its a fact that homework tends to increase when a school is under a lot of pressure. If we don't do homework it saves paper therefor saving trees and our environment. Homework takes away our free time. So homework is not a good thing like teachers think it is. Note that. Homework is so not necessary!
Homework is the reason I fail. I am a school boy of class 10th, every day I get 12+ pages of homework minimum. Because I cannot possibly do all of this and help around the house as I am the only one able to do so, and therefore I have no time to study my material and therefore my test grades suffer as a result.
Satisfactory performance and understanding of a lesson is inside the classroom, not out. Besides, anyone can do the assignment for you. I believe seat works are more beneficial since it is inside the classroom and within the supervision of a teacher. Also if a student needs help in a problem, they can get help from a teacher instead of someone else for them.
Why do we have homework? Education is important and helps us to be successful in life, but what is the reason for doing work after school when you have been working hard all day. Therefore, I feel homework isn t necessary because it is stressful to students and that leads them to dropping out of school, it strains on the parent/child relationship, and if a student doesn t complete their homework they might fail one or more classes.
I dislike the homework I get because of me getting the feeling of being unintelligent, it hits my self esteem hard every time. Why this is I don't know to good, but I do feel horrible when I don't understand what I'm doing, and as I only have 1 parent which isn't taught the stuff they are teaching today I can't get any help at all.
I see this in myself that Homework affects my mental state all the time, My self esteem goes down as I feel I am less intelligent as everybody else because I can't finish my homework, I get stressed as I do sometimes get to much for me to handle, I feel left out when I try to do my homework as homework + Social life isn't really a thing..
I feel guilty and sorry when my teacher asks for my homework and I say I didn't finish it, and I also get extremely tired, I get little to no sleep during the school terms, around 7 hours is my average sleep every night.
This is even worse as Homework comes at the wrong time, for example, you have a test in two weeks, why not then get two homework's form other teachers? It really just comes up at the wrong time.
Also, I see no need for them, I never see anything I've learned in homework in tests.. EVER
It doesn't exist, It's just an excuse for my school system to say that I am stupid or smart.
Have a problem doing homework? Well do it right? Why don't you do it right? That's how the damn school system works.. They expect me to understand and know it without anyone teaching me it, EVER!
Homework should be banned because it is a complete waste of time. I'd rather suck up all the knowledge at school than at home. Homework is frustrating and that is why I always leave it to the last minute. Homework takes away family time, chores and even having fun. I know that it helps us learn but I'd rather do that at school than at home.
Homework is waste of time and give the students headache because of doing home work students had no time for self - studies , playing , and do not give time to enjoy with family members . In my opinion it is very bad thing that we do homework and do not give time for self - studies
It is a huge burden on us and because of this students suffer a lot and spend a lot of time in doing homework as a result there grades go down Students can get stressed out over too much homework and it can make them lazy and not want to do their assignment that was assigned for that night. They won't turn it in because it is incomplete and they did not want to do their assignment and it can bring their grades down.
My child is an 8th grader and he was at first doing okay with the homework. However, his grades start to go down, and he rarely interacted with me and my wife. He started to look stress and he seemed way more aggressive than he usually is. Most of the time he is a good kid. Because of the homework, he stays up 'till 11. I think that homework should be gone.
Homework causes students to stress out over tests because they feel like they need to master every subject they learn in school. School does not teach how to pay bills, pay taxes, buy a house or a car, raise a family, etc. School should at least teach things that are useful to ones everyday adult life.
There is no point doing homework because you do the same work at school so it does not actually make a difference. Also how do the teachers know if the pupil did the homework for them.
In addition to that, some pupils find it that they are forced to do homework. It is a job for them so as a result they do not find school any fun.
My mother and father scolds me for not doing self study just because of lengthy and boring home works . This keeps me out from self studies as self studies are more important. It is a waste of time and energy . This banns me from playing outside thus making me lazy. My teachers give me a lot of home works . To prevent this a schedule was made which is violated again and again .
Homework is bad for children because it is forced labor, I, as a student, I hate it, it takes valuable time away from children, they spend 6 hours of school and they have enough work, it takes over 4 hours. All of it should be banned! It keeps failing grades, tests and other crap you will never use!
Schools will assign homework to shift responsibility from lack of meaningful class preparation. Although in some instances homework serves to reinforce what has been discussed in class, at other times it is merely a way for teachers to shift responsibility onto the students. Homework is definitely a form of labor, it harms family dynamics and does not allow students to learn basic independent thought if they are worried about getting a bad grade. Students who do not do their homework who would otherwise be fond of the learning material and excellent participants in discussions are blackmailed by bad grades. Homework should be banned if used as a method by teachers to shift their responsibilities onto younger students without a developed ability to think independently for their own well-being. If Homework instead is used to reinforce important material and practice misunderstood concepts in class like it's true intended purpose then by no means should it be banned. But as far as my experience goes, teachers and schools are not doing that as often as they should be.
Arriving home with an achy back from your heavy bag and a headache from all your weakness during the school day, all you want to do is lie down, watch some TV, talk to some friends, or read a book with a cup of tea. Usually students have to give up their weekend to finish assignments and catch up with work. Homework can mess up our brains because students go to school and learn for 6 hours.
At my school, which is an all-girls school, because we have at least 2 hours of homework a night, we lose sleep. Our school has an odd schedule which has us having at least an hour in each class every other day. Science shows that our attention spans can only take an hour of information at a time. And even though we aren't children, we still need at least an hour of exercise every day which we aren't getting. At my school, we have a recurring joke that says that we all have no lives and that during the school year, we spend more time at school than at home. The ironic thing is, that joke is true.
Some students may not have enough time out of school to do homework because of other activities. Also nobody likes homework so they simply just ignore it. So I say no homework, amd some assignments just get you confused. Parents help with most of students homework anyway so whats the point?
Yes, home work should be banned. Kids would rather be outside playing games with friends and siblings than locked up in their house getting homework done. Almost every kid doesn't like or do homework. Teachers hate having to spend their free time grading papers. Why not stick to learning subjects in the classroom and leave the home for relaxation and social time. That's why I think home work should be banned.
We already give the school 7 hours of our lives. I don't think it is fair that when we go home we should have to spend another 1-3 hours more on our homework. We should be able to go home and not have to worry about school until we go tomorrow and spend another 7 hours there.
Homework is the reason why some kids cry themselves to sleep. This is true. After at least six hours of school, plus time getting to and from the school and/or playing sports or other school-run clubs, students then have to add in chores, meals and have time left for homework. Many nights, students get so much homework that they become frustrated and end up in tears. Others stay up until early morning fitting in all of their work, chores, sports and personal time.
Some kids finish their homework, finally get ready for bed happy that homework is over, only to remember about an English assignment that is due tomorrow. That poor kid has to stay up all night to do the work. He wakes up sitting in his chair next to his undone assignment with swollen eyes when his mother comes in to wake him up. What did he even do to deserve this?
Now he's super tired, has six hours of school to deal with, plus any extracurricular activities and transportation times. Plus, there's more homework, chores and meals waiting for that teen too. It makes life a complete disaster, I dare say. For a teen's sanity, homework should be banned. Teens should be given a little bit of freedom.
Homework is a devil. It wastes your social time and can make you lose focus in school. I think it should be banned for many reasons. They ruin plans for holidays and weekends. Homework puts you off school. It is very annoying when you have plans and homework ruins it.
Homework should be banned because my children come home from school brain-fried and can't have family time with me and my wife. We never have a proper family dinner because my children are too busy with homework. Me and my wife would rather love for homework to be banned, thank you.
Because students have this this called a social life where they get out in the world and socialize with other people instead of being stuff in their homes doing math homework about what a is equal to that's what school is for because if you don't know there's a teacher to help you because my parents don't know what a is equal to that's what my teacher was trained to do then they help me do it.
Look, My point here is homework only has the "study" card to use against the reasons it should be banned, and also you will be back at school in the next few hours, and if you on a vacation it can be the students decision. We have lives too. NOW the reasons that go against the study card:
1: We only have about 8-5 hours of free time before we sleep and then the next day of school i think we could handle not learning until then.
2: We have lives too, we only have 8 hours in my grade, then in high school its 6-5, So we need to be able to have some time to do, i do not know, Enjoy our child hood!
3: 60% of the people who think homework is good of the already tiny amount that want homework to be given do not go to school so why should they be choosing OUR lives for us?
4: And it causes teen depression, once your 11, Homework increases by 30% (mostly)
I personally think homework is just a review of a review of something you learned. You learn something (the subject), then do a worksheet or project on the subject (review of subject), then you do another sheet or project for homework (review of review). In fifth grade I had trouble with fractions. I didn’t understand the mechanics and therefore I couldn’t do the homework. And since I couldn’t do the homework, I just wasted my time on it. I think that homework should be done in in school, where you can receive help, instead of at home.
If you ask me I think homework should be banned especially over the summer. It has been proven that countries that are above us in the education rank such as Finland and Japan are getting less homework. When kids come back from school they do their homework immediately and by the time there finished its 8 or 9 o'clock which doesn't give them that much time to have time with their family or to go outside and play. Whats the point of homework if kids are going to forget about it anyway. So lets get homework banned and let kids be kids.
I play ice hockey all the time so i dont have any time at all. I like my homework but i cant do it so i cant hand it in. I like in a garage with my mum all so. I try but their is no way i would have time.
Homework caused me great stress. Often I didn't have any time to do the things I enjoyed as a result of the immense quantities of homework I was given. I am a perfectionist therefor I would spend a long time trying to complete work to a higher standard than I was almost capable of. I would get very hot and stressed. I would get distracted easily too. The less important pieces of homework I was set I rushed through meaning they were not nearly as god as the work I did in school.
Teachers would set me homework as if it were something they didn't enjoy doing but felt compelled to do. They would sometimes sigh and very reluctantly call someone over to give out the homework sheets.
Other times essays we did not finish in class were given as homework. That I thought was more fair but upon thinking it over again I have come to the conclusion that we should have had time limits on the assessments.
My maths teachers would give me homework every lesson. Sometimes a huge amount to be in the next day. This did not advance my intelligence, my knowledge. It helped nothing. The only thing the constant homework did was make my life difficult.
I pushed on expecting it would all help. I told myself it would pay off. I would be pleased in the end. I left school still wondering what the homework did to help me. I still don't know what the homework did other than stress me out and keep me stuck in my room for hours and hours on end . I believe that ,yes, homework should be banned. It does a lot more harm than good. In fact it did me NO good. Whatsoever.
And yes I would have rathered a month more of school days if it meant no homework. I think most people would.
We get projects, assignments and homework tasks, EVERY, SINGLE, DAY. It's stressful. What if a child doesn't have any interest whatsoever in homework? Do we not do enough work at school? Not everyone wants a job in medicine or politics. School gives us enough education. And besides, homework doesn't help at all. It's a completely different thing from studying. Studying is what students really need, NOT homework. We're just repeating everything we learnt again and again in homework, and that doesn't help at all. That isn't what learning is about.
I have seen many teachers who slam the project paper in front of you and impatiently wait expect you to do it without teaching you anything.
I never met a kid that learned a lesson from homework its just hard to teach a child that kind of dedication when their supposed to be enjoying themselves life is short. People learn when they want to not when their told to in my opinion. Studying on the other hand is a good thing.
Kids are sitting inside getting fat while doing homework when they can be outside getting fit and not having to worrie about homework. When i was a kid i gained fifty pounds because i was sitting innside doing homework and i dont want my kids to be like me. If you have kids you should understand. I do want themto be smart but not fat.
Kids learn for 7 hours in school. Homework just adds to the pile of work kids have to do. I believe in optional review work and studying, but things that are learned in school that are used for homework is not valuable. Homework shouldn't be banned, but should be slowly decreasing into nothingness
Kids don't have times to be kids anymore. Let them practice in school and then relax at home. The only home projects should be long term ones, that require research and planning, because learning how to accomplish a large task by breaking it into pieces is valuable and needed in life.
-On average, students spend seven hours a day, thirty-five hours a week, one hundred-forty hour a month, fourteen hundred hours a year. All of these 1,400 hours is spent in a class, listening and directing all of your focus and attention to the head of the class, which is the teacher. After a long day, working your tail off to try and complete your assignments, you couldn’t be happier to come home and relax and watch TV for the night. No, because Mr. Or Ms has to give extra work, which is mandatory and must be completed by the time you wake up. The youth need time to rest their brains to rejuvenate for another full day at school. Furthermore, at the end of the week, Friday is now complete, and the teacher says “you must complete this work for Monday,” just adds more salt to the wound. The “week” never actually “ends.”
-For example, in the film business, why does the rule state that children can only work for up to eight hours? Because a young one’s brain cannot function for that long of a time, it needs to rest to perform at it’s best. This is the same with school, but the Ministry of Education obviously does not understand.
-Homework is preventing children from leading balanced lifestyles. For example at PEAC, all of the students are also athletes. There is no room for students, let alone athletes to fit in this extra work. This must come to a stand still.
People can get annoyed by all of the homework they get. They would probably rather play outside or something than sit inside and do homework. Kids miss things that they have been waiting for. Parents make kids stay home from there fun activities or sports just to finish there homework.
The reason why homework should be banned is because we already spend 6 HOURS in school so what is the point of adding more work because as you can see many kids DON'T like school. If you don't believe me look at the percentage. Ask anybody that you know! :)
Yes we need homework and there is no way schools will banned it but this is a debate where everyone can post their opinions therefore i think homework should be baanned with the reason that its stressful for students to come home after a stressful day and do more work. I am a 7th grade student and at that age no one wants to do their homework because of the warm weather and friends. In 4th grade i hadent seen my father in 2 months, he invited me to the movies and of course im going to say yes, but i also had math homework, when i came to school the next day i ytold my teacher my exuse but still got in trouble, therefore i have always thought homework was ppointless, teachers, parents and granparents tell us to go outside and play, we cant when we have homework.
Honestly, I don't know how many times I have been assigned homework and either don't understand it, or not have the ambition. Schools already have busy work, why not just have that instead of homework. Without homework students will have more time to relax and get ready for the next school day. Ever been absent for a long period of time? Ever been swamped with homework because of being absent? It's not fair (unless you purposely skip school, then it's totally fair).
I think it should be banned. The reason why is because after a day at school you're like," No! Not homework!" WE WANT TO RELAX! The teachers should leave homework for us to do in class to make sure we get it done. Most kids dont get it done because at the household, There are too many destractions like T.V. And videogames and other FUN things to do. So that is why we should ban homework
I think homework should be banned because it takes away our free time and plunges students (like me) into a pool of stress and anger. Also I feel that the idea of homework is completely ludicrous and I disagree with it and you should too. Ban it for god sake and end this stream of madness.
Sincerely: A.J Rainville AND William Bridgeman
Homework should be banned because children go to school to learn and there are only a few reasons for teachers giving out homework. From experience i have learnt that teachers spend so much time dragging on about one thing that they don't finish the lesson that they have planned and they set the children homework regarding the lesson that wasn't completed. The second reason that children are given homework is that teachers don't think that the students have understood the task which is the fault of the teacher, if they believe that their pupils have not paid attention to the lesson because they get bored then the teacher should find a way to teach the class whilst making it an enjoyable lesson.
While I concede that homework does help kids to learn the subject, it most certainly does not teach them responsibility or independence. If a kid doesn't have to do homework, he might not remember the subject as easily. That means when he goes to take a test he has to study for it on his own terms, from his own notes. THAT teaches independence and responsibility, not pre-prescribed worksheets. Children don't learn better time management by deciding which "paper pill" to down first.
Not everyone has hours upon hours a night for homework, if you simply don't have enough time to do the homework, it will not get done. This results in a 0 and the kids will end up failing the class. It is not simply the kids don't want to do it, most of them dont have the time to do it. There are a select few that have time to do the homework. There are kids that are involved in multiple sports and dont have enought time.
Kids start school with a capacity to love learning. Before they started school, they learned everything on their own, finding the world around them interesting. Then, when they have to do a bunch of homework, they learn that learning is not something you do yourself; it's something that is forced upon you, so this must mean the opposite of play is work. We do not realize that we ourselves are teaching our children horrible things. In fact, as far as I can remember, I'm thirteen, and everything that has been of use to me I taught myself, so I didn't have to pay attention in school. Luckily for me, I got such great teachers who either gave little homework, or a lot of homework due after a very long period of time. This taught me time management. Of course, when I got to middle school, I started to truly hate learning, and I'm in eighth grade now, and even after skipping a grade, I still have trouble with and hate school, but my parents say there is nothing they can do about it. So I've decided to take action, because I know that most adults don't understand what kids face these days because it was so different just ten years ago. Homework has taught me nothing, and everyone I've spoken to finds cheap ways to do it and still get one hundred percent. Since my school hasn't banned homework, I utilize these cheap ways so I to pursue my passions. Back to my previous post about it being slavery, it violates the 13th Amendment, which abolishes slavery. I don't remember approving of homework in my life, nor do I remember approving of my older brother constantly beating me up everyday. The definition of slavery is one thing that is subservient to another, more dominant force. That thing is kids, and that dominant force is homework.
"Education is the process of wasting half your life to learn how to waste the other half of it"- Albert Einstein
"The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education." -Albert Einstein
Homework is tearing apart our kids' futures. I thought parents, teachers, adults, etc., etc., wanted their students to be well-rounded people when they were older. Even if a kid is given only five minutes of homework, there is almost certain proof that spending those five minutes playing video games would be more helpful. Also, every child is born with a tremendous talent that no one ever gets to see, not even the child, because according to homework, if the talent is not academically related, it is worthless.
Kids should not have homework because they spend 7 hours at school and there is even more work for home. They do not deserve it because kids need to go out and play. They also need free time and tend to get very frustrated over homework and then they wont finish it and then they get bad grades at school.
Homework stresses kids for getting bad grades.
When kids have a lot of homework they will stress about it then it will lead up to not doing their homework. The student will put off their homework and say that I am done to their parents and their grades will end up bad. In addition, tests show that kids will be stressed and they will give up on homework and just not do it. When kids get home they will start watching TV and not caring for homework. In high school kids drop out of school because they will have to much homework and it will be very overwhelming to them because they will stress to there limits of dropping out.
Homework is unnecessary. It is only a review of what you did in class. Most people rush through it and don't even try their best because they want their homework done as soon as possible that way they can do more interesting things like go out outside or play sports. In conclusion homework is annoying and should be banned.
I am a student in high school. I have homework ever single day. I get home at about 3:30 and finish my homework at around 6:30 or 7:00. Afterwards I take my shower and like always read for my English class the daily required pages which is also HOMEWORK! I have no time for anything else. I agree with the other comments about homework being very stressful. It is very stressful. I have developed Insomnia from the stress. Homework interferes with sleep which is crucial to perform well at school. I actually doing homework right now and its 11 p.M. I personally don't think I learn anything from homework. I don't think it "enforces" anything. School is long enough and stressful enough for us students. Homework just adds to the the stress and worries that we have. School is long enough to teach us what we need. Taking homework home is like going to school all over again! Besides the stress, homework prevents interaction and physical activity outside of school.
I'm in fifth grade and I get A LOT of things to do for homework. The minimum amount of homework I got so far was 4 and the maximum amount was 9. And I get so stressed while doing it. Once, I stayed up until 3:00 AM, trying to finish a book report. I can't spend time with family or friends after school because of homework. And now I failed 2 science tests so far because I couldn't concentrate because I kept on worrying about my homework and if I finished all of it. Kids are also getting obsessed with homework. And homework led some kids to suicide. So I'm failing some tests, getting really stressed and cranky, I worry a lot, and I'm starting to talk to myself. All because of homework. HOMEWORK MUST BE BANNED!!!!!!!
People need to ban homework because it is very stressful. Students should get paid if they do it because it is work, too. You should spend fun time at home. Homework can take too long or there could be too much. No one likes to do homework and homework should be banned.
I am a 54-year-old man and I have a kid that is 3 years old who has homework everyday and it's hard for me. I need help. If there would be just no homework, I would be happy. I have a 20-year-old wife who agrees with me too. So, please, no homework.
Yes we all need a good education but homework is just over the top. We have no idea why teachers think that 6-7 hours a day, 5 days a week isn't enough. That's plenty of time. And on top of homework, I have at least an hour of music practise to do. The jump from year (grade) 8 to high school is significant as each teacher we have does not have ANY sympathy about us having homework from various other teachers. I have a poor relationship with my parents as I hardly ever get to spend time with them. Recently, I have been banned from playing games because I had so much homework to do (at least 4 assignments a week) that I went insane. My friends also think the same as me. Finland distributes no homework at all, yet 90% of all students graduate. Homework never teaches anyone anything for us. Also, most of the arguments between children and parents, are over homework.
