Should it be easier for the government to wiretap people who communicate using the Internet?

  • No, it should not be easier for the government to wiretap people who communicate using the Internet.

The Internet should not be easier to wiretap by the government. This is a situation where technology, access, and legality do not align. Because the Internet is accessible widely and easily monitored does not mean the government can use it to spy more easily or for less stringent reasons. Furthermore, it should not be easier since Internet activity and communications are cached by the companies supplying services, making it impossible to have a fleeting, undocumented communication unlike phone calls. Just because there is a wider expanse of information available doesn't mean it should be available to the government for monitoring.

  • No, absolutely not

It is a violation of the 4th Amendment, the government has no business doing that. If we cannot be secure n our email communication than we have lost our freedoms in the 4th Amendment. We cannot give up our freedoms for security it will only hurt us, the government cannot protect us in this way by violating the Constitution and principals it was founded upon.

  • No, Americans should never willingly give up their right to privacy.

The right to privacy is one of the most basic human rights that Americans have. Our founding fathers created the Constitution not to limit our powers, but to limit the power of the government. To willingly give up those rights in the name of fear tears down the foundation that this country was built upon.

  • No, it should not.

There should be no 'easy' route to spy on people. While government wiretaps and the like are a necessity for certain circumstances, I don't feel that it should be made easy. It sets a frightening precedent that heralds the further curtailing and monitoring of every day citizens. To give up privacy for a sense of security is a form of cowardice.
