Should medical care providers be required to provide authorities with information regarding patients with drug issues?

  • No responses have been submitted.
  • No, privilege is important.

No, medical care providers should not be required to provide authorities with information regarding patients with drug issues, because it is more important that people have a privilege with their doctor. If people cannot have confidence when they visit their doctor, they will not be honest with their doctor. Treatment is more important.

  • The Patient's Right to Confidentiality Should be Respected

I believe that the standards of patient privacy must be upheld. Patients with drug issues may indeed be a potential hazard to society at large, but rehabilitation clinics are around for a reason. I believe that the choice should be given to the patient to turn their life around and not exposed unnecessarily to the authorities.
