Should medical research using animals, such as monkeys, dogs, cats, and mice be replaced with other methods?

  • Horrible!!

Animals deserve peaceful lives just like people do. Animals never harm anyone unless bothered and we should treat them the same way. People have no right to kill or even harm an animal for purposes for people animals have nothing to do with it so no one should bring them into it.

  • Stop the funding!

This type of research is completely unnecessary. Research on dogs tells you virtually nothing about human biology. If you make use of alternative and complementary medicine, you won't need research on pharmaceuticals. They keep doing this type of research because they keep getting FUNDED to do it. We need to stop the FUNDING.

  • It is wrong.

If scientists wanted to find a cure for blindness they would inflict blindness on the test subject. With any other thing even for a cure for brain damage they would inflict brain damage on the subject, and any other kind of cure they would have to try it on something that has what they are trying to find a cure for.

  • Yes, the animals aren't safe.

They hurt the animals and if the medication it not quite right the animals could get very injured. There has go to be other ways to try the new medication because animals don't get to play and run out in the sun like they would in the wild. They are also kept in cages most of the day because the scientist have to do work on them.

  • Animals Have Rights Too!!!

Even though where curing diseases, it still hurts the animals. And sometimes, even kills them. We have different DNA then the animals. So, we won’t have one-hundred percent accuracy on the data, and we react differently to drugs than the animals react. When animals pass through the medical experiments, it usually doesn’t work on humans. This is also cruelty to the animals. A lot of animals die in the medical testing, or at least are badly injured. This is also a waste of money!

  • Save the animals

They should not be medical tested because they could die because there could be stuff in the medical could be poison to the animals. We need to help the poor animals, and if you are medical testing our poor little sweet that do no harm animals you beta stop or we will seriously make you.

  • wrong

Trying to use animals as research is a very common among those who are ignorant of at the very basis understanding that animals are different from humans... Trying to predict the human response to testing medication on animals is not only wrong and an invalid method for testing it is also pointless taking away many benefits to testing directly on humans prolonging medical advancement.

  • Animals used in medical research is a cruel phenomena

I subscribe to the belief that it is unnecessary to use animals in research. It is absolutely cruel! Animals feel pain, experience emotion, and they also experience fear. It is my belief that if a researcher needs to discover how medications will affect a human, he/she should do the research on a human. We have plenty of rapists and murderers in the prison system. Use them!

  • Medical research using animals is completely unacceptable.

Animals are capable of feeling pain and, therefore, should not be subjected to medical testing, even if it is for the greater benefit of saving a human life. The medical research being conducted is for humans, and humans, therefore, would be best suited for use in such experiments. Animals are like us biologically, but not so much like us to justify using them for research purposes.

  • I oppose testing on animals, because it is cruel and inhumane.

Animals have been preferred by companies for years, in testing their products. When you find out what kinds of tests are performed and how these animals suffer, you can't help but realize we need to find a better way.

  • Animals involved in animal research are mostly well treated.

The vast majority of animals used in research are not subjected to suffering. Where there may be pain, they are given painkillers, and when they are euthanized it is done humanely. They are looked after well, as the health of the animals is usually not only required by law and good practice, but beneficial for the experimental results. Many of these animals live better lives than they might have done had they been born into the wild. Many animals, and indeed humans, die untimely deaths that are due to reasons other than old age, animal experimentation may increase these numbers slightly but so long as the animals are treated well there should be no moral objection to animal research. If the foundation of the argument for banning animal experimentation is therefore based upon the cruel treatment and pain suffered by animals then this is a reason for regulation to make sure there is very little suffering rather than an outright ban.

  • While minimizing suffering and pain, animals are very useful in medical research.

I am a true animal lover and could never be personally involved with anything dealing with harming animals as I would be too emotionally attached. However, I have to concede that medical research is vital and where necessary, appropriate animal testing is a tool that we cannot be without.

  • Live organisms should continue to be testes and used as experimental specimens

When testing agents that are to ultimately be used on live organisms when they are in the marketplace, it is imperative that the test subjects are live organisms themselves. Then can be no surer way of ascertaining the agents safety and efficacy than this. For example, were you to want to play a guitar, your practise would still be on a guitar. We're you to become a boxer, your practise would involve so wine who can hit you back. You always have to practise on the thing itself before taking the results of your practise out into the world. And so it is with products and agents that are to be used on living organisms. They must be practised on living organisms and it is more important that they are due to potential health hazards. It may appear immoral to use creatures in this way, but those particular creatures are bred solely for that purpose and the life that they give goes on to benefit the lives of countless other organisms.

  • Medical research using animals is a vital part of advancing both humans' and animals' health.

What most people don't realize is that more cats and dogs are euthanized in animal shelters every year than are used in research - with monkeys, rabbits, rats, and other animals included. In research facilities, animals are treated with dignity, comfort, and respect. They are not tortured. Suffering is kept to a minimum. Laboratories must meet strict guidelines by animal rights watch-groups, but the average family who adopts an animal does not. Animal testing is vital; its pros endlessly outweigh the cons.

  • No, I think these things have to be tested on live subjects.

Unfortunately, until there is a way to get useful results other than from subjects with a biological makeup similar to humans, we need to keep using these animals. The efficacy and potentially dangerous side effects from experimental medications have to be studied. As of now, there isn't a way to do this except on living beings, and it's far too risky to have humans as test subjects at the beginning stages of drug experimentation.

  • No, because the use of these animals have brought forth many medical breakthroughs.

Very few people like the thought of innocent animals suffering so that we can test medicines and procedures. But in this case, the ends justify the means. The medical breakthroughs resulting in human lives being saved is worth the cost. However, I agree that in the few cases where other methods are just as viable, e.g. virtual reality, statistics etc. they should be employed instead of animal experimentation.

  • Animal testing is a necessary evil, because it leads to improved lives for everyone.

Researchers only use animal testing when it is more accurate than other methods. Better accuracy leads to more effective treatments, which leads to saved and improved lives.

  • Medical research shouldn't use other methods, because there really isn't other methods to be used, besides testing on humans.

Unless researchers want to start testing medicine on humans, then I don't think that medical research should start looking for other methods to test. Animals, in general, have a much lower lifespan than humans and their lives are not as valuable as ours. I do think that researchers should be using more mice and rats for research, rather than cats and dogs. Either way, I think there is no problem with using animals to test medicine, rather than risking the life of a human.

  • Too Cruel For Animals!

Animals... They feel pain, they have feelings, they have no right to suffer. Animals are like us. We want to live in peace. This world isn't peaceful yet. There maybe no wars one day, but those animals suffer everyday for we humans. Just think about it. What if you are those animals? They want to be free. They want to live out there, have a happy life. I think it's not even fair to have good shampoo or good medicine, if it has to go through animals first. Do you see animals using other animals for new technology? New medicine? No, so why can't we just leave animals alone?
