Should middle and high schools start later in the day than elementary schools?

  • Yes we do!

Lack of sleep leads to very serious effects such as depression, suicidal thoughts or behavior, drug abuse, etc. It's even been reported that schools that start earlier have more car accidents with students. They are unable to concentrate and many fall asleep in class. It is proven that the human brain is not fully functionable until 10:00 in the morning!

  • Yes, middle and high schools should start later than elementary schools.

Most teens need 8½ to 9 hours of sleep each night. Studies show that most teens have a hard time falling asleep until later in the evening. This is because when you become a teen, the body’s circadian rhythm is temporarily reset, telling you to fall asleep later and wake up later.

  • Yes,middle and high schools should start later n the day than elementary schools

Several studies have shown that older students do better later in the day. They actually need a lot of sleep and are not as productive earlier in the morning as younger children. This way they can be at school when they can get the most done instead of being sleepy all the time.

  • Yes because teenagers require more time to sleep and get their brains working.

Teenagers are growing and have a more complicated life than younger children. Many teenagers attest that waking up early in the morning to go to school is a drain on them and they have problems concentrating so early. If their school instead started later, they would be better able to prepare and listen to their lectures.

  • No, they should start when they do now

There's no need to tweak start times to cater to groups that tend to be lazy, you're just telling them that starting their day later is something they should get used to. Not the case if they want to be anything in life, you got to get up early and start working.
