Politics is about clarity and transparency, Mitt would release the tax returns if he didn't have something to hide. He knows that he exploits workers and creates an environment where he profits disproportionately. It is unfair, and the American people would recognize this. By not releasing his returns, Romney is protecting himself from left wing criticism.
I think Romney should have released his tax returns to show that he had nothing to hide. The more he avoided the issue the more suspicious it looked. Especially since the Republicans are so "law and order". If Romney had nothing to hide, he should have had no problem with proving that to the American People.
According to the Huffington Post, Mitt Romney paid a 14 percent tax rate in both 2010 and 2011. This is deplorable. Mr. Romney is paying the same tax rate as a struggling middle class family with children. Mitt Romney is a wealthy millionaire who can easily afford to pay more taxes. Paying a tax rate lower than that of most Americans makes Romney appear to be sneaky, dishonest, and out of touch with the economic reality of the average person. His credibility with the working class suffers greatly for this reason. Romney enjoys privilege and wealth at the expense of poor.
The "birther" movement came back to bite Mitt Romney in his campaign. Whereas Tea Party members want proof Barack Obama is an American citizen, far-left liberals want documentation that all of Romney's income taxes are legally paid. Romney has said he paid all of his necessary income taxes. Yet there are allegations of off-shore tax shelters and super-rich ways of getting around certain income tax brackets. Romney needs to come clean just as Obama did with his so-called "birther" issue. Otherwise, Romney is a hypocrite.
