Should money and property obtained through forfeiture be used to balance the federal budget?

  • Forfeited items should be used to help the USA.

Money and property obtained through forfeiture should be used to balance the federal budget. This is because there are so many objects seized from criminals that their value should go to helping the citizens and government of the USA. If we don't use them then they will sit in backrooms forever collecting dust and being of no value.

  • Might as well.

Yes, money and property obtained through forfeiture should be used to balance the federal budget, because it would be a good way to take in extra income. It is fair and a good idea that the people who are not able to follow our laws pay more to the needs of our country and law enforcement.

  • No, money and property obained through forfeiture must not be used for the budget.

If the government is allowed to use money and property obtained through forfeiture to balance the federal budget, the forfeiture process will be monetized. If the system is monetized the opportunity for abusive process exponentially increases. Money and property could be seized indiscriminately in order to fund the government without consideration for due process.

  • No It Should Not

I do not believe money and property obtained through forfeiture should be used to balance the federal budget. The revenue forfeiture creates is not consistent and it should not be a reliable source for balance the federal government. Forfeitures, in my opinion, should happen much less often and shouldn't be allowed in many circumstances.
