Nutrition labels should be updated. The new Nutrition Facts label, might at first seem confusing since it would include a line for added sugars, which will appear indented directly below the 'Total Sugars', earlier there would only be a line labelled as 'Sugars'. With this new labeling process consumers would have a clearer picture of the exact amount of sugar content.
The true nutritional value of the foods we eat should be clearly labeled, including calories, fat, serving size and GMOs. Using a system developed by food companies 50 years ago doesn't seem to be the best way to help educate and inform consumers about what they are putting into their bodies.
New and updated label would allow the consumer to make more informed decisions about the food that they eat. Consumers will be able to better understand the correlations between their diet and its overall effect on their health. It would most certainly help to reduce chronic diseases such as obesity, hypertension and diabetes .
Nutrition labels should be updated to conform with changing dietary guidelines. Dietary experts often change guidelines when it comes to the type and amount of foods that should be consumed. Food product labels should be updated regularly to provide consumers with the latest nutritional information. That way consumers can be informed to make healthier eating choices.
