Pedro Martinez was recently elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Janurary 6, 2015. He received a staggering 91% of the vote which should be no surprise at all when looking back on his career. Martinez is an eight-time All-Star, three-time Cy Young Award winner, and 2004 World Series champion while also being known for pitch 9 perfecting innings which is almost unheard of in the sport. On top of his accomplishments almost everything you can find on Martinez speaks to how much fans and professional in the sport love and respect him. I could not imagine a cause for him to not be in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Pedro Martinez absolutely should be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, and anyone who doubts it simply does not have a sufficient grasp of the import of his place in baseball history. Furthermore, allowing a personal character judgment, such as calling Martinez 'a punk', is entirely inappropriate for the process of electing players to the Hall.
Pedro Martinez during his prime was a dominant pitcher. While his total win total is only 219 unlike other pitchers in the hall of fame that generally have 300 wins, there were few pitchers who were ever as dominant in their prime as Pedro was. He led the league in ERA, WHIP and strikeout rate 5 times in the same season, these statistics show how dominant a pitcher is. Based on these statistics alone, Pedro deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame.
Pedro Martinez should be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. This Cy Young winner has exceeded expectations since his rookie year in 1993. His record as a pitcher has shown Mr. Martinez to be a perfect candidate for induction into the venerable Baseball Hall of Fame. He has earned it.
