Should people who download music and movies illegally be punished?

  • I say no because

No, people who download music/movies illegally should not be punished. It’s completely free for someone to go on YouTube and watch a music video, so why can’t they have it on their computer for free too? Well the real answer is, there isn’t one. Anyone can search the web to watch/listen to pretty much any movie or song for free. Being able to watch it for free, but not download it for free seems a little ridiculous doesn’t it. Also if you think about it, downloading it off the Internet is almost exactly like recording a TV show or movie from your cable box. Now you must be thinking, well you have to pay for cable, but Internet isn’t free either, in some peoples cases it’s more expensive. Plus with the right stuff, someone could take that recorded show off their cable box, and put it on their computer. Should that be considered illegal? Though it doesn’t make sense for downloading it to be illegal, piracy can be a different thing. If they just have it there for anyone to download that should be fine, but some people pirate for money. This act should definitely be illegal, and is already frowned upon. It’s taking someone else’s work and selling it for profit. But as many people have said, “Why should I get it here for money, when I can get it here for free?” If you saw a TV for $499 and saw the exact same TV for free (not a scam). Which one would you take? Of course, anyone in the right mind would take a free TV if it were legit. That’s also another problem, do you know if you’re even paying for the right product. Pirates can get away with that because they are illegally selling movies/music and you’re buying it illegally. So what, are you going to call the police? There are downsides to it, but there isn’t a stone cold reason for not having free music/movies. It doesn’t hurt the economy, because the people who don’t download it illegally can just listen to it on YouTube, or another media websites. So there are no good cons against this. It would be nothing more than a convenience if we were able to download these things.

  • No, they shouldn't.

The radio. YouTube. SoundCloud. The list can go on and on for what people in this century use to listen to music. Being punished for listening to music is wrong. There comes the problem of, yes, if people cannot afford to go TO the theatre, or buy an iPod, or some thing of that sort. People should not be punished for this, for after all, some of us (including myself <3) do this.

  • Yes They should.

People who download movies and music illegally they are destroying the business. It also damaging the entertainment companies, industries. It will cause people be unemployed and damage the economy. Downloading illegally is similar as robbing from a store. And the Pirate bay and torrent download should be taken down or get banned. The people who do stuff like that they should get punished or arrested.

  • Yes they should.

People who are downloading music, movies or any other software illegally should and need to be punished. Downloading any of that kind of stuff is hurting the entertainment and software development industries, which will cause people to loose jobs and hurt the economy. Downloading illegally is just like stealing from a store.

  • This is the reason why i say yes

People who download music and media illegally should be punished because that singer/songwriter/actor should get money for every sale they get. If you download it illegally they do not get they money they deserve. How would you like it if you diseved money and didnt get it. Well that is how they feel. That is my first reason.

  • People should not be punished

Even though they hacking to get more programs that means that the people who control the apps should start upgrading. People who couldn't afford movies just want to look at online. But they can't because the people who control the apps won't upgrade the movie apps so that people will stop hacking.

  • Yes they should

Entertainment is not free. Downloading music and movies illegally can destroy the passion of the artist, and also causes companies to lose money. In 2013, the economic losses amounted to 12.5 billion dollars. However, i believe the people who upload them illegally should be more severely punished because they are the ones who are actually causing the illegal downloading.

  • Yes this is why

Because it should be punished. A lot of people work for it and if you take it without there permission it is like you're stealing it. When someone steal something in a deli he will be punished well it is the same thing. They should pay a little bill.. And because I say it.

  • No it shouldn't

First of all, no people who download music illegally should not be punished, it's completely free for someone on YouTube to watch it so why can't they have it their phone or computer for free too. Anyone can search the web to watch or listen to pretty much any songs for free. And downloading free music from a website almost always gives you a virus so there is no reason to get in trouble for it if you're already taking a risk.
Secondly why would people care if someone downloads music to a personal device if it plays on the radio anyways? If it plays for free to everyone every day the why would some one care if they downloaded it?
And finally illegally downloading music doesn't hurt the environment and no one gets hurt so why should anyone care?
