The still-lingering economic recession, coupled with the vocal stance of the right wing that climate change does not exist, will make it difficult for Obama to get anything done. However, the guy isn't getting reelected, and he might as well get as much done as he can since Republicans are going to hate Democrats no matter what. It is, by a huge margin, in the country's and his best interest to take action against climate change, because, unlike fluctuations in the economy or gay marriage, climate change is permanent and affects species beside our own.
Regardless of what many people believe, global warming is a very real issue that needs to be addressed immediately. Especially if we intend to leave a habitable planet to our children and grandchildren. This is a subject that the president, and anyone living on this planet really need to focus on!
I believe that President Obama should definitely take action on climate change and lead an international effort to curb carbon emissions and other pollutants. The president should also form a committee that focuses solely on finding new and creative ways to help slow the dangerous threats posed by climate change.
It's really out of his hands, climate change will happen no matter what we do or don't and any regulations placed on us just hurt us more than help as it is anyway. So I don't think he should take action, it can't be helped to start with, and anything he did call for just causes more problems than it fixes to begin with.
Even if climate change is linked to the way people treat the environment, it is already too late to do anything. Years of mishandling and non recycling is already doing the damage to global warming and it is only a matter of time before the polar ice caps start melting and we have bigger problems. There is nothing Obama can do to change this.
