Should priests be excommunicated for supporting gays?

  • Real Christians neither tolerate or aprove

Despite some peoples misinterpretations of what the Bible says regarding this, the bible is black and white, hate the sinner not the sin, but that doesn't mean tolerating this abominationary behavior. Priest have an obligation to place the views of the bible before their own misplaced views. The church reserves the right to excommunicate them, and including heretics etc.

  • Homosexuality and Roman Catholicism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_and_Roman_Catholicism

At least the Catholic church does not change its beliefs for a few votes like President Obama, President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, who are nothing but "Vote" Whores.

The Catholic Church knows that gays are abnormal. The Church should fire all priests that support gays.

    Here are the Church's reasons:

"Homosexuality is considered by the Roman Catholic hierarchy to be "disordered" in the sense that it is said to be "ordered toward an intrinsic moral evil" and is not directed toward what the Catholic Church believes to be the unitive and procreative purposes of sexual activity. "Homosexual acts", which the church refers to as "homosexuality",[4] are considered sinful because "sexual acts, by their nature, are divinely intended to be both unitive and procreative". The Church also believes the complementarity of the sexes to be part of God's plan. The Church holds same-gender sexual activities to be incompatible with this framework. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that,

"Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that 'homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered'. They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved."

  • Yes It Should

But I am speaking in the sense that they approve of homosexuality, allow it. In this sense, then you bet they should be excommunicated, because they are going against their own very clear teachings.

But if they are merely supporting in the sense that they are giving counsel and welcoming them to God, then no.

  • NO! THIS GOES AGAINST CHRISTIANITY

Even though our religion may not support gay members is gives no right for personal opinion among priests. They should be allowed to say what they wish as long as it does not play any cruel parts against certain people. The bible states that we should lover our neighbors, lover our enemies, love each other....This also stands to stand up for people, look after people, and even care for people. By excommunicating priests you defy our religion in the fact that we are supposed to care for each other. Even if you are gay!!!

  • No, the opposite.

Priests should be commended for supporting gays, as Christianity is supposed to be all about love, and one must love another regardless if they agree with their choices. Priests should be excommunicated, however, and also castrated, for molesting children and anyone else. The Church would do well to stop talking about the issue of homosexuality and get serious about pedophilia.

  • Good for them

I don't believe in the Bible but I respect that some people do. Okay, when cherry picking, you can present the Bible as saying homosexuality is evil. But, if you take the Bible literally, you also have to accept when it depicts is from a different time, it's history as much as it is anything else. Those views are outdated. Good for any priest that has the courage to stand up when something is wrong and try to be progressive.

  • Love the sinner, hate the sin

I do not believe that they should be excommunicated because although homosexuality is a sin in God's eyes, the Bible says that in God's eyes there is no degree of sin, and that we have absolutely no right to judge one another because we ourselves are not perfect. And the gays in our society are being unfairly discriminated against. Jesus himself was persecuted by the Pharisees for standing up for and befriending tax collectors, prostitutes, and sinners; how is a gay any worse. If God loved them and died for them, we should at least welcome them with open arms. Our only obligation is to tell them about the Gospel. Not change or shun them. Jesus told us to love our neighbor, and gays are no exception to that great commandment. Love the sinner, Hate the sin.

  • Do not judge the book by it's cover

Priest should not be excommunicated because at the first place what they are doing is still legit and did not neglect against Catholicism. They still uphold justice and fairness amongst the homosexual because it doesn't mean that if they're homosexuals in contrast to what should we truly belong as only males or females, but the bottom line here is that to who fulfills and still respects the conduct of being a christian whether or not you are a homosexual . Having said that there is no reason for excommunicating priest who do support for gays because in a wider scope gays are still alive in their morality and authentic faith to Jesus Christ.

  • No, because all priests support gays.

Priests may not approve of gay relationships or gay marriage, but they do support gays, and are generally happy to help them with any problems they may have. Some priests, of course, even are gays. Priests shouldn't be excommunicated because this isn't against Church teaching, and if for some reason they did do this, the Catholic Church would cease to exist.
