Should prisons be reserved for individuals convicted of violent crimes?

  • Yes, they should.

Prisons should be for the worse of the worse. They are there to give more security and hold them in a more secure facility. Prisons should only have prisoners who have committed terrible crimes and acts of violence that is so bad they can not trust them in a jail or space with less security.

  • Violent crimes are not the only crimes.

Prisons is different than jail. Prison is for the more hard core criminals while county or city jails are more of a temporary hold, usually less than 90 days or so. Prisons hold the more long term inmates. This includes violent criminals as well as serious non-violent crimes. There is nowhere else to house these individuals. If someone is that concerned for their safety they should consider following the law and staying out of prison.
