  • Religious convictions are often the strongest

Religious convictions are often the strongest moral convictions. This is not to say that religion should be written into politics, however as the law is intended to protect people, and religion is generally focused on helping people, the two mesh pretty well. Religion should not be written into law, but should be used as inspiration.

  • In practicality religion has a place in politics

While in an ideal sense it shouldn't have any place in politics. Religion is spiritual need of an individual while politics cater to social and economic needs of individual in a society. Religion is the private affair of an individual and when combined with politics it can create a highly toxic state within the global society which in the long term has cascading effects on world peace. The best example in this regard is the ongoing conflict of Muslim countries with western superpowers. The politics of Muslim countries is driven by their religion, more precisely their religious leaders like maulvis, mullahs, muftis and imam. While in most of the rest of the world politics is driven by respective bureaucrats, politicians and intelligentsia. Hence the nature of conflict is quite twisted between the two because the politicians tend to address the righteous issues related to politics while these religious leaders have a limited ability to think beyond religion, they want to associate everything with religion.
