Should retired players sue the NFL for failing to protect players from chronic risks of head injuries?

  • Yes, Like Seriously!

All football players that have been injured should have multi-million dollar retirement pay contracts and should sue for damages. Any player, even a first year players, should be guaranteed super retirement benefits. Even if that player only plays one game, or just gets hurt in practice and never plays a game, he should be entitled to full retirement pay and full medical benefits. The owners make billions of the players, and give so little back.

The owners have made billions in profit off all players; they owe most of that to the injured players; they should be forced to pay it to all injured players.

Full contact football should be banned in America; only touch or flag football should be allowed. The evidence is in; full contact football is just to dangerous. It needs to be banned this year!

Football, Hockey, Boxing, full contact martial arts should all be banned on TV. Football and Hockey should be banned from grade school, high school, and college.

Our society puts too much emphasis on these violent sports. Schools should be for education. Education is more important than sports will ever be.

Americans are a bunch of couch potato TV watching sports fanatics; it is about time they find other things to do, e.G., read a few good books; do more activities with their families.

  • Contrary to popular opinion, not even the most high tech quality designed helmet can protect your brain.

I was in my 50's before I understood that the inside of the human skull is not smooth and flat like the outside. The rather profound ridges on the inside of your skull have one very prominent one across most of our foreheads. Your brain is not anchored, and any time your head stops suddenly after moving at a high rate of speed, your brain literally "crashes" into the ridges inside of your skull. Look up "Shaken Baby Syndrome" and consider the brain damage caused by rear end car collisions, even when the victim's head fails to contact the steering wheel. If my mom had understood this, I would not have been allowed to play pop warner football in the first place. Come on, man. Even Obama has admitted this is new information.

  • Yes, this is how necessary change takes place.

Even if it is in the contract of an NFL player that the league is not responsible for injuries suffered during the course of their contract, there should be some loophole for retired players to sue for the league's failure to protect them from chronic head injury risks. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that repeated head injuries are extremely debilitating and damaging, and the league had a responsibility. This kind of lawsuit is necessary in order to secure change for current and future players.

  • Yes, they should sue.

The NFL made money promoting the dangers of football and glorifying it. It's not a matter of risks. Most athletes have experienced consequences. So, yes, they should sue. The league knew about the dangers for years and failed to protect the players. They exploited these players. Yeah, some guys made nice livings but is it worth it? You can give the players the decision on whether they want to play or not once you've disclosed the dangers.

  • LMAO, overpaid athletes wants more babying?

If these overpaid athletes have any right to sue for injuries that they know full will could happen, BECAUSE IT'S THE NATURE OF THE SPORT...

Then our service members have more right to be able to sue uncle sam for any injuries (mental and physical) caused to them for their service.

These athletes should just stfu and stick it

  • Noooooo, absolutely not!!!!!

They signed a contract that they would play the game of football. They should know the risks of playing football. It is a very rough sport, if they can't take the roughness of the game they shouldn't of played. Try golf........ It is irresponsible of them saying that they want to play and then when they retire go and ask for money for the injuries they had while theyplayed

  • Freedom to hurt yourself

It's football for crying out loud! Everyone and their dog knows it's a violent sport and people get hurt. Football players play at their OWN risk. They know the consequences of playing contact sports. There is little else to be said but I have to get the 50 word minimum.

  • No they shouldn't.

You shouldn't be allowed to sue the NFL because we all know football is a physical sport and there is a risk playing. We all know you can get injured playing any sports. Its your choice to play football not the NFL's. It's not the NFL's fault that you get hit! Obviously your going to take hits in the NFL It's the best of the best playing each other.

  • No, they should not.

NFL players that are retired should not sue just because they could of been at risk for head injuries. They should have done this while they were still playing if they thought something was wrong, or going wrong with their head. Also, football players know the risks when they start playing, it is there choice to continue.

  • No. Like seriously?

It's football for crying out loud! Everyone and their dog knows it's a violent sport and people get hurt. Football players play at their OWN risk. They know the consequences of playing contact sports. Technology isn't the greatest when it comes down to helmets. But equipment has become safer than it used to be, and if you were hit hard enough in the head it wouldn't matter if you had a metal dome. I do think that players should have better/ more beneficial healthcare since they are at the risk of high injuries, but to sue NFL because you failed to tackle a player wrong, no. That's why there are techniques to tackling, so that you don't make as much head to head contact, and injuries are reduced. Saying retired players should sue NFL for injuries is like saying baseball players should sue for being hit with the ball, or boxers should sue because of the injuries they obtain. Or bull fighters, basketball players, any sport that is considered violent. If you're playing a contact sport, you SHOULD know there IS going to be injuries, and possible concussions, so if you can't take a hit because you or other players fail to hit properly, then you don't need to be playing contact sports.

  • Heck no they should not.

They sign up and they get paid bookoos of money! That is absolutely ridiculous! No one gets a concussion on purpose and i don't really see a solution to stopping concussions! It is because you can't. Football is a violent sport and everyone knows that, especially the guys who have spent their whole lives playing the game. That is the career path they chose for themselves and making millions playing a game may come with a cost.

  • Like are you kidding me

I have played football for over 10 years and its a way for comfort. I know.. Comfort? But I know the consequences and football is a way for me to release my stress. And all of these players have known it also. I dont know what life would be without football. I love it and whats life without doing what you love?
