Should Ronald Reagan's birthday be a national holiday?

  • Ronald reagen remembered

His administration did much to improve quality of american life and he got our hostages back on american turf, also got gotbachev to take down the berlin wall thus freeing many stuck in communist territory in germany. He was a great president and through iran contra affair accepted his own blame.

  • Yes, with a side of yes.

He was the best president the US has ever had in office. He made the US a lot of money in the 80's, and he helped bring down the USSR. On top of all of this he also helped bring down the Berlin wall. He will certainly be remembered for a long time, and his story will only grow in fame.

  • He Was Great

We have currently made a holiday out of many great American heroes. Reagan was one of the most popular presidents of the 20th century. No one had a higher public approval rating than he did. He did a lot for our country as well and he had a huge influence on the modern world

  • YES LOVE THE IDEA!!

Reagan was a great president! by great I mean GREAT as in the best president ever! his birthday should be celebrated all around the world in fact. Those who say he was a bad president are a disgrace to this country! End of story. Make it an official holiday!

    Republican out!

  • Make it his birthday.

I think Ronald Reagan was great president. He did more than most of them did in office. I think it would be a great honor if his birthday was made a national holiday like Jefferson and Washington. He was a great man and did lots of great things while president.

  • There Is Absolutely No Reason To

There were two presidents named Ronald Reagan. The first one is the actual historical figure that followed Carter. The second one is a myth conservatives have constructed around him to serve their purposes. If you actually compared Reagan's policies with that of the conservatives who trumpet it him, Reagan comes out looking liberal. Save the holidays for the truly iconic presidents, like Washington or Lincoln.

  • Reagan wasn't worthy of a national holiday

Reagan was a salesman for conservative ideology, and little else. He may be worshiped by certain delusional elements on the right, but in truth Ronnie was a fraud whose purpose as president was to shift as much power, law, and America's wealth to the rich as possible. His presidency may have been the tipping point toward America's decline.

  • No It Should Not

Ronald Reagan's birthday should not a be a national holiday. If we are being completely honest, he was an average president. Reagan seems like a nice guy, but he did not contribute enough to this country for his birthday being a holiday to be justified. We cannot supports mediocrity from presidents.

  • Crack,Aids,Star wars, Iran Contra,inflation, recession. ..

During the Reagan era the U.S. grew stronger militarily but fell apart at the seams everywhere else. Reagan was one of the worst presidents in history. He funded Illegal wars, poured trillions into ridiculous missile defense system and his polcies, like most conservatves, bankrupted the the national coffer. Also during his presidency two of the worst scourges to ever hit the inner city, crack and aids, were at their peak. Holiday? Gimme a break.

  • Worst president ever

Star Wars,Iran-Contra,policies plummeted the country into a major recession. ....,enough said. This guy was an absolute con artist and to reward him with a holiday would be a travesty. He didn't contribute anything profound to this country during his entire presidency besides freeing a couple of hostages. And we all know how he went about doing it .

  • Did little of note.

Washington was our first president and a major colonial general. Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation bringing an end to slavery (in the south) and pushing America on the path to progress. Reagan did... Little of note. He was charismatic, however that's really his only memorable quality. He didn't improve the economy, in fact his administration saw America take on -more- debt, and while he made a fiery speech to tear down the Berlin wall it had little to do with the wall coming down.

Overall, Reagan seems to be touted as "defeating communism", he made a few speeches at the right time, but hardly was anything beyond an "average" president.

  • Why Reagan ?

Reagan was hardly worth a national holiday. I'm not saying he was a bad president, or a good one, but he did not do enough to have his own holiday. Washington was the first president, and also a great general, and Lincoln ended slavery. Those are pretty big. Reagan did some things that affected the country at the time, but he didn't do anything that will remembered 100 years from now as hugely important.
