Altogether I am totally against abortion, but I am well aware women are going to do what they want to do to their own personal bodies and injury their selves and the baby. So if we as Americans can come up with some better laws than we have at the time then maybe more people would be in agreement.
The government absolutely does NOT need to be mucking around in further intruding into women's private health issues.
This is what Roe decided in a nutshell:
States are forbidden to interfere with a woman's access to abortion during the 1st trimester of pregnancy.
States can only regulate 2nd trimester abortions to protect a woman's health.
States can ban 3rd trimester abortions except if a woman's life is in jeopardy.
A fetus is not protected as a "person" under the 14th amendment.
A woman's right to choose is a fundamental right and has the highest level of Constitutional protection.
This is vitally important. Before Roe, an average of 1.2 million women a year had illegal and usually dangerous abortions- banning abortion does not prevent it, it only makes it dangerous and kills women. 5,000 or so women died each year from these abortions, and tens of thousands more were rendered sterile or had major complications.
What "better" laws do we need than a legal ruling protecting a woman's right to privacy and to choose on her own health?
The responsibility to be a moral citizen owner of the American Covenant is the responsibility of the individual, not the government. Regardless, of how anyone understands the act of abortion to be, no one, especially government, should interfere in the individual's choice. Family, is the final chance for wisdom. Only family can take the burden and provide the love needed for THE CHOICE.
