Should school be year-round with no summer break?

  • I have 10 reasons.

    1. There is no homework.
2.The summer break system was designed for poor families who had factory worker kids that needed time off.
3.Summer break is too long studies have shown students forget because the brain is a muscle that is becoming flabby and unused.
    5. Students receive more personal attention.
    6. The entire books are covered instead of sections.
    7. Placement and advancement are based on intelligence and application instead of age.
    8. Bullying happens less in year round schools.
    9. Relationships with teachers are stronger in year round schools.
    10. You get to choose your vacation.
    11. You still get holidays off.
    12. I could do this all day.

  • Yes it should!

18% of kids in free lunch go hungry over summer. Thats 4 million people. The american egucation system is falling behind.66 percent of teachers spend 3-4 weeks reteaching. 64 percent of kids play video games then playing out side. If you need more evedenc ok i will find more ok.

  • Benefits for low income families

Studies have shown that low-income families have benefit the most from year - round school. Part of that has to do with kids can retain information easer the other part is that it helps troubled children stay out of trouble. While wealthier families can afford baby-sitters and summer camps; low income parents have to leave their children home alone and unattended while they go to work. Year-round schools keep children in books and off the streets.

  • Give me a fifty week school year in America!!!

Sure, summer break is okay and all, but what if we were to abolish summer breaks and have a fifty week school year? It could help for many reasons. The primary reason is because children will suffer the "brain-drain" of summer. We don't want our children to lose what they learned during the school year. Also, many parents/guardians may not afford to take the summer off. So what should we do to keep the kids occupied while the adults are at their jobs? More school (especially in the summer). A third reason is the notion of having kids join a gang during the summer. Another important reason is the rise of childhood obesity. I'd rather see my kids attend school for fifty weeks than sitting around the house all day, watching TV and eating junk food. So let's get rid of gangs and obesity and stick to a fifty week school year, America!!!

  • International baccalaureate systems helps them in relaxing.

The common belief on which parents argue that their students should have vacations for them to relax. But i believe the international baccalaureate system burdenize them less because they don't give as much home assignments and teach everything in the classes so that they don't have to do much learning at home. They have concept based questions in their tests. So probably they have enough time to relax.

  • Summer break is too long.

Most families are not millionaires. And especially the ones living in the city, both parents have to go to work continually during the summer break. I suggest school should be open this period but less studying, more fun stuff and activities, so the students could enjoy more outdoor at campus, with their schoolmates, and even learn more interesting things.

  • School year round would make it less stressful and give us more time for learning.

Have you ever come back from summer with a laid back feeling and then get your first homework and be like, what? Everyone hates review so why not just get rid of that and just come back from a small break and carry on learning the same thing. We would also have the same amount of break, just more spread out. We wouldn't forget everything over the summer. Overall, I think that we shouldn't have a summer break.

  • Umm, of course NOT!!!!

Kids would hate school. That would make them anger all the time and they would be soo disrespectful to their parents and teachers! They would refuse education, and probably prefer the criminal life! They would consider running away from home! They would run away from school. That's why I think we shouldn't have year-round school.

  • No no no!

My gosh! I just had a two week holiday, but even then i didnt feel fully rested! Honestly, by the time the school year ends I'm exhausted! Kids and their parents too need a break! If we had no holidays, even if we just took away the summer holidays, we'd have no time to go on trips, go oversees, and see relatives. Sometimes the weekend just isn't long enough! Taking away the summer holidays would HUGELY hinder students' performance, they'd be tired, stressed, and miserable. If you really want your kid to do work during the holidays, then if they are willing, send them to holiday tutoring programs. That way everyone gets what they want: the people who want holidays get them, and the people who dont, dont.

  • They need summer break!!!!

Children spend roughly 10 months in school and every child knows that after a nice school year spent with friends, they need a break... It's a time for kids to relax and take a break no matter if it is 2 months they need it!! I know that most kids don't like school as it is already and to keep kids in school for 12 months would ruin everything, although there will be longer breaks, that still means during those 2-3 weeks the children will have to do homework, with summer vacation they have no work... It's better because with 2 weeks of holiday it would be just pointless... I mean what's the point of keeping kids in school for 12 months, I know teachers will not like this either they also need time to relax with there family!! Think about the CHILDREN THEY ARE PEOPLE TOO THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXPRESS THERE OPINIONS!

  • That'd be ridiculous.

Parents and the public school system are consistently addressing how many student skip school. What do you think taking away us students one escape would do? It would cause more kids to skip school year-round, attendance would go down. Attendance is already a difficult thing to keep up with, if there were fewer breaks, and no summer, there’d be many more students skipping school in order to get a break.
There are many children who spend their summer getting mentally healthy enough to return back to the already mentally degrading public school system. Take that away, I guarantee you that suicide rates would go up. Even if it was by a low percentage, that's still more than enough
You seriously expect people to go 12 years of their life without a single break longer than 2-3 weeks? Screw that. I'd rather live in a nudist colony than deal with the consistency of school all year.
Summer is a time many students use to work full-time and to earn money in order to get ready for the expensive college tuition's. How are students supposed to get ready for college or anything if they never have any break whatsoever?
We, students, need the break to work full-time, relax for a long period of time, and to get our crap together before the next school year.
Stop trying to change the way things have been in the school-system for years.

  • They need it.

Why would you take away a students summer break?? That's when they get to go on special or fun trips. That's when they go to camps. And when they get to spend time with friends and family. They also get to relax from having all of that work from school.

  • Let the Poor Student Rest

I don't think schools should be year-round with no summer break. The problem with this is that summer vacation lets them relax after doing a lot of hard work (though there are some students who don't do hard work. I have nothing to say about that). Without summer vacation, students are toast and they will have trouble adjusting to their workload. They will also be stressed out a lot because they won't be able to relax for some time.

  • Um... Pretty sure there should be one.

If there's no summer break, there's also a chance for parents to not have a break either. And no summer break could overwork the student. Also, it would possibly cause someone to kill themselves. So to sum it all up, there should be a summer break so children can relax their brains after such a year.

  • Kids need summer break

Of course not! Kids need a break just like we adults need sometimes. If school was all year round for kids it would put alot of stress on kids wich could lead to more serious problems. And summer break is a break for kids to be active. The school bordes are always worrying about kids health and taking out summer break is taking out physical activity

  • Give them a break there just kids

Who can ask this kind of question? Giving kids no break at all will as studies have shown make them perform worse that is why we have a winter break and a spring break so they can have a break and there minds are fresh to learn new material, The reason why our schools are bad is because our entire education syestom is outdated

  • Students Need Summer Break

Without a doubt, school shouldn't be year-round because students deserve a summer break. Year-round schools don't benefit all students equally, so the traditional school system should be preserved. Too many added problems would accompany a switch over to year-round school. Plus, students would miss their summer break they've become accustomed to.
