Should school have a longer summer vacation?

Asked by: Caam
  • It would be a good thing

If students have longer summer they can have less stress which can lead to happier life, after all were born to have fun not boring and stressful. School taxes would be a lot less and less drop outs. More kids would be having family/friend bonding time, Students will make more money during the summer vacations from jobs and with that money they can use it for college.

  • Yes! Yes! Yes!

Kids need longer summer vacations. Four months approxamately. School mainly focuses on learning. Kids need to go out and explore the world. Not just the recess yard. And teens? They just stay In a building pretty much all day! So I say summer break should be from june 1st to October 1st. That is plenty of time to learn. Eight months!!! Teens are forced to be around bullies all day! That has become a huge problem too! Who agrees?

  • Yes, school should

School hours are already brutal plus politicians just love to shorten breaks, make school hours longer, I wouldn't even be surprised if they wanted kids in school 24/7. School is very stressful so we should atleast have a month longer by going out at May or entering at October. Kids and teens are human beings not robots.

  • Summer Should Be Longer

Summer should be much longer because it's boring at school and too much stress at school like we only have 3 MONTHS of Summer!!! Like C'mon we need more time so we can enjoy and not worry about school starting back in 3 months we should be enjoying our summer not worrying about going back to school... Yes, I think Summer break should be longer!!!

  • Students would focus more in school

If Summer break was longer, students would be more motivated to do well in school and know they are being rewarded by having an extended summer. Grades and test scores would rise and it would take the stress off children. School is mandatory but in social studies class teachers teach students of fairness and equality. Is it fair that they have 9 1/2 months of school and only 2 1/2 months of summer break? The fact that school runs longer than summer break contradicts with the teachers teaching. Students should have the opportunity to receive a good education and be rewarded with a longer summer break. It will have positive results and in the end everyone will benefit from it.

  • Yes we should

I think we should have longer summers is because school packs a lot of stress on our shoulders, so we need time to relax, and to rest our minds. And we have social live you know teachers. We cant spend our entire weekends studying, and doing homework. We also need friends to socialize with.

  • It would have positive effects

Kids need more chances to actually get out into the world for once instead of just going from home to school and back again. People say school prepares you for the real world, but text in a book can hardly compare to going there and seeing/doing things yourself. I went to Old Salem in Winston-Salem, North Carolina this summer and learned more about the lives of colonials than I ever had before. Being able to explore and build memories is good for kids and teens. More so than worrying about quizzes, tests, and grades on things they'll rarely actually use. It encourages social activities and generally leaves kids happy and healthy.

  • We should have longer summer vaca

Because it will rest our minds & we would have a lot of family time because the parents in work don't spent a lot of time with there kids. Summer break could make kids learn new words. Also when your in school the bill would go high in school because it would be really hot.

  • Get rid of them.

School is designed to help kids prepare for life after school. In real life, you don't get the summer off. If the school year is extended year round then the students may be able to graduate sooner and move on to college or join the work force sooner so they can earn money for college. In the year or two that it gives them, they could get real life experience in the work force. If kids are in school for less years and join the work force, they will pay taxes sooner to fund schools as well as lessen the amount of students. If we also increase the number of hours they are in school to 8 or 9 hrs. Then this too would increase the speed they graduate. With kids being at school year round, parents would have to spend less on someone to watch their kids while they are at work.
It is a win all around.

  • Schools Should Get Rid Of Summer All Together.

While a fantasy of kids going to the beach, and playing outside all day during summer is nice, it is not a reality. For teenagers, most summer days consist of playing your favorite video game inside your own room, or binge watching Netfilx. While on summer break kids, teachers, and administrative staff forget content, and are out of practice. This is why when kids return to school after summer break, they spend weeks, even months reviewing past curriculum. Apart from education, all other jobs are not afforded a summer break, why should schools have this misguided luxury? Instead, try shortening school days, and making them or enjoyable, so kids are maybe not so eager to leave.

  • Plz no no no!

Ppl assume that when ur a kid, u think summer should be longer. NO. I'm in middle school, and I think if summer was any longer then it is, I would die from boredom.

Summer is long enough! We already get lazy and forget everything we learned, why extend it? If u think about, we don't even get much education because a lot of it is weekends!!

  • No it no!

No do not extend it at all! Of course a vast majority of you in this room or very for the decision of pushing summer into a very long period. But you have to think about reality. Sure it would be great for everyone to take time off right? Won’t effect too much. But it will.
School is designed to be an environment that teaches children, teenagers and adults, and that environment is also meant to prepare you for the real world. In reality you are granted breaks and time off but never are you given the privilege to take multiple months off. Yes you need to take time off, to relax, get the stress out, but there is a limit.
Secondly, if summer break was pushed to 6 months instead of the 2 1/2 months we have off already, students will be attending school for much longer hours during the day. Because all the material we learn, demands a certain amount of time, and by taking off multiple months, school hours will get much longer.
Lastly, while you guys are complaining or wanting more time off during summer, just sit back and reflect a bit of how much time off you already have. We have about 56 days off in summer, 43 weekends off during a school year, all holidays including christmas, new years, thanksgiving etc. We also have very long lunch break hours about 4 times a cycle. I am willing to bet as well that at least 40% of us here, spend there time inside there house in summer rather then going outside.
    Thank You,

  • Two words Summer Braindrain

Over summer kids already lose some of their knowledge of stuff that they have been taught over school.Whos to say that if we make summer longer kids won't lose more memory. If anything we should make school longer. Not make it shorter. It is way more dangerous to make school shorter rather than longer.

  • It should not be longer

Kids will get to out of habit and will be very dumb when school starts. Schools need students to go to school so they can learn. Summer vacation is nice and for enjoyable family time but I think 3 months is enough. I think summer vacation should not be any longer

  • If were talking about elementary

You go to school about 6 hours a day thats half. In summer you get all 12 hours of daylight and theres about 40 weeks of school so basically you got to split that I'm half so 20 then the other 20 goes to summer so, if where talking if summer has more hours off then school does this reason can only support elementary not any schools above elementary thanks -max

  • Of course not!

Two months of summer vacation is long enough. As a child, I always wanted a longer break, but as I matured, I realised why it is not a good idea.

    1. A longer vacation would cause people to get used to the relaxing environment, thus, resulting in lazier students, lazier teachers and lazier administrators. What do 70% of teenagers do during break? Stay locked in their room doing whatever desires.

    2. Anyone cannot be happy by having more, because at the end, even with more, we will still want... More. For instance, you get 92% on a test and for the next one, your goal is 96%, and then 100%! Get 100%, move on to a better school! If there were more weeks of vacation time, we would push for more and more until school became non-existent. We cannot be simply satisfied with: 'more'. Not really an effective solution.

    3. Learning is important. Knowledge is what makes you stand out. Knowledge brings many fun opportunities in your lifetime. Less school = less learning = less knowledge = less future. You will probably forget what you've learned for the whole semester anyways.

    4. Your adult life will be easy, free, no teachers telling you what to do and no principal checking what kind of effort you put in life. But to reach this golden age, you need to work your way up, and that is school. You need to put in your best foot forward in order to succeed. Whining, lazy people, not only students, who take the easy way out, will typically live a harder and harsh life. These people are negative, and will be sadly disregarded in today's society.

  • No, it shouldn't be longer.

Summer break is long enough already for students to relieve themselves of school stress. If we start making the school year shorter how will students be able to learn and remember all the things that they are supposed to know. Everything learned in school is already being rushed and shoved down our throats. If we shorten the school year anymore there will not be enough time to learn things. All the things that we are expected to know will be given in such a rushed way that students won't be able to completely or fully understand concepts. Having a longer summer sounds better, but we have to think about it in the long run.
