  • Obesity is bad.

Yes, schools should ban junk food. I say this because first of all, our country has the highest rate of obesity, and second of all 60 million (20% of the population) are obese or overweight. That is really bad not just for our country, but also for our entire world.

  • Yes it should.

Junk food should be banned because it can make you fat and you can get sick from it and it is the worst when you get sick. And if you hate going to the dentist it can cause lots and lots and lots of holes in your teeth it is the worst.

  • Supersized sugary shenanigans!

Enormous chocolate muffins, fried chicken burgers, dim sims, pizzas, meat pies; can you believe that these calorie-high, sugar-rich foods are still on sale to our children in the Obese Century? With one in three Australian children obese and two thirds overweight, the normalisation of selling of junk food to minors on a daily basis should be considered child abuse. Kids are growing up these days believing this stuff is food! Where are the 5 food groups? This is the first generation in which their life expectancy is actually decreasing due to high levels of cardiovascular disease and diabetes due to obesity. Seriously people, ban junk food from schools and educate our kids about nutritious foods before it’s too late!

  • Junk food is bad

Junk food can lead to obesity Australia is the second fattest country in the world closely following America. If we continue this way of living we will die at earlier and earlier until we are to young to even repopulate and the human population will stop existing. There is over 300 000 people dieing from fatty foods

  • Junk food is killing you slowly............

Eating junk foods, as a young age is a bad habit, it leads to lifetime health consequences, statistics have shown that sixty million adults are obese or overweight. School is where children spend most of their time therefore school should be a place where children learn to eat healthy foods, by the year 2050, the rate of obesity in the U.S. Is expected to reach 42 percent, according to researchers at Harvard University, wow that is insane! Do we need more obese children or adults in this world???

  • Students learning is going to waste!

Students/children need to start their day healthy rather than starting a day with junk food. Eating lots of sugary foods makes students less able to pay attention in class or performing well on exams and test. Students can have mood swings and it will effect the students around the world.

  • You can die from junk

Junk food is food that is calorie-dense and nutrient poor. In recent decades, junk food, fast food and convenience food consumption in the United States have increased dramatically, with 25 percent of people now consuming predominantly junk food diets. This trend has occurred concurrently with rising epidemics of numerous chronic diseases and accounts for a long list of reasons why eating junk food is bad.
Junk food plays a major role in the obesity epidemic. By the year 2050, the rate of obesity in the U.S. Is expected to reach 42 percent, according to researchers at Harvard University. Children who eat fast food as a regular part of their diets consume more fat, carbohydrates and processed sugar and less fiber than those who do not eat fast food regularly. Junk food in these children's diets accounts for 187 extra calories per day, leading to 6 additional pounds of weight gain per year. Obesity increases your risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes and many other chronic health conditions.

  • It’s time to junk junk food!

Junk foods should be taken out of school lunch menus because they affect your body and mind in negative ways. Junk food is a major cause of childhood obesity. 32% of youth are overweight and nearly 74% are unfit. The bad food offered in public schools contributes to this unacceptable problem.

  • Banning junk food would improve health and concentration.

Society is currently in an obesity epidemic. By allowing our children to become addicted to sugar and junk food at such a young age, we are often condemning them to a lifetime of health problems. Not only are there health problems but junk food affects concentration, memory, learning ability, behavior and aggression.

  • Kids would be sad zombies.

No,schools should not ban junk food! I say no because think about the kids who love junk food. They would hate that and be sad and you would not want that would you? Also, junk food has sugar in it and without sugar they will be zombies every single day. So no!

  • I wouldn't go to school anymore.

At school, I like getting candy for school parties. In my school we only get sweets for special occasions, so we don't get sweets very often. If we get rid of candy in schools, people will stop buying lunch that the school gives them. If that happens to our school, I won't go to my school, I'm not going there any more.

  • It will cause more harm than good!

You shouldn't ban junk food for many reasons. First of all the school district will lose money, not a lot of money, but right now schools need that money. Secondly, students need to learn how to make their own choices. One day we will become adults and this is preparing us for the choices we have to make when we are older. Right now Michelle Obama is already promoting a good program. Also, with all of the exercise kids do now with all of the team sports, a little junk food won't hurt.

  • They're gonna bring it anyway

By banning junk food you're just making kids more sneaky, because nobody's going to give up junk food. I mean what are they going to do, check everyone's lunch everyday to make sure it's all healthy food? That would consume so much time, why don't you just cut it down and let the kids eat what they want at lunch, but they have to have a healthy snack in the morning like most public & high schools do, but then again were in high school you're not going to control our decisions for much longer let alone what we eat. Most teenagers smoke weed, and it's illegal, but it doesn't stop them because most feel like it doesn't affect them, neither does junk food, so in the end, you can't change what we consume.

  • No, people should make their own decisions about what they eat.

We have been told what to do and how we should do it all of our lives. It should be our decision as to being obese or not. No one should be allowed to make that decision for us. If you are going to take junk food off of the school menu, at least give them the option to buy it out of vending machines. Who cares what others think of what they choose to eat?

  • It is a good reward.

No, schools should not ban junk food because when you are good in school you get rewarded with little candies, and that encourages you to do better in school I know it does to me! We tallied up votes from 3rd, 4th,and 5th grade parents and 80% of them voted "NO" to banning junk food. To me it is more important what the parents say, because it is their child. If your parent does not want you to have junk food then your parent can send a note and you can just get stickers! That is my opinion.

  • I love snacks!!!!!!!

Students will still bring even worse and more expensive food from home, and the school will not benefit financially at all. School junk food is less expensive than regular junk at the store, and theyre usually healthier choices than an entire bag of gummy worms or something. Go vending machines.

  • Do your job and educate!

A recent study conducted by Dr. Charles Gerba and the University of Arizona in a K-12 school system found that the germiest place at school is the cafeteria table.

And this was one of many common areas swabbed and tested for bacteria. Other areas included desk, computer mice, restroom sinks, drinking fountains amongst others....

And you're worried about your kids getting home baked goods because the possibility of germs?

As a very nutrition minded person and nutrition educated person disagrees completely with the idea of banning junk food from kids. And I call it junk food because let's be honest most of the foods we are discussing is essentially unhealthy. However as many of you have stated on here it is the mentality of a child to explore things and rather than having my kid sneak unhealthy food I would rather him be educated about proper nutrition and be given the choice to decide whether he wants to eat those foods or not. As for the little ones it should be limited but not banned.. The only thing I agree with is prohibiting ingredients that any child in the classroom is allergic to.....

Open your eyes and be worried about the food preparation areas and consumption areas where your kids are eating. Those things will cause far more harm to your child than eating some sweet treats. The school systems should be focusing and Implementing rules on their own cafeterias rather than deciding what are kids eat.

  • Kids love junk food.

Thousands of kids love junk food, but some do not. If you ban junk food, kids may fall asleep during class. The caffeine in junk food and energy drinks will wake the kids up furring class. Yes, kids are crazy, but they can pay attention so that they can pass their tests. That is my opinion, and it is from a ten year old girl. DON'T TAKE OUR CANDY AWAY!

  • Students need to limit themselves.

I am an opponent of banning all junk foods from school. It's true that junk food is very bad for your health, but I think it's part of the learning process. Students need to learn how to limit themselves; they need to understand what is too much, and what is okay. School is a very good place to teach students this because that's what a school is for, it's for learning! So that's why I am an opponent of banning junk food in school.

If we don't have the choice to buy it we won't know when to stop.
