Should scientists (FDA) or law enforcement professionals (DEA) decide what drugs have medical value?

  • Scientists know more about medicine than law enforcement professionals

If we even keep the DEA it should be for enforcing the laws NOT for making it. The FDA has scientific professionals who study the safety of food and drugs. Personally I think people should be able to use the drugs they want but that prescriptions should exist for insurance purposes. But even if we continue banning recreational substances the FDA should get scheduling authority. The DEA is not competent to decide what does and does not have medical value. If it is of the opinion of scientists in the FDA that marijuana or psilocybin has medical value they should be able to approve it for prescription.
