  • Should be abolished by Zachary C. Hibl

It will give a person a shiny bright beam of light of hope to pay off their taxes when the money only rase their taxes so you think winning $1,000,000 is good but your wrong to believe such a thing it will only drive you into even more dete than what you used to pay.

  • Not as advertised

I've seen numerous studies that the people who spend the most are those that can least afford it. I think it's targets those whose money could be used better.

I also think that states advertising that it goes towards education is misleading. States might use the money made for education, but schools do not get any extra, budgets just get moved around.

It can lead to gambling addiction, which can ruin families, makes crime go up.

  • Lotteries are all scams

Point #1: All lotteries should be abolished because they are nothing more than scams. No one ever wins the big jackpots despite the fake winners that are publicized. The most any lottery pays out is a few thousand but you'll spend a lot more than that on losing tickets before that happens.
Point #2: If it's at all true that in Capitalism you can get rich by working hard, then there is no need for lotteries. But it isn't true, is it? That's why lotteries exist and that's why such a scam of an economic system will only breed further scams within that system.

  • Tax on the Most Vulnerable

Those who don't understand their minimal odds and who can't afford it are the ones most likely to purchase lottery tickets. It gives them hope and like a drug addict they keep coming back for more of it. The state endorsing such a process of removing the limited wealth of the poor for one or two lucky individuals is an unethical practice at best.

  • False Hope Leads to Complacency Among Poor People

The lottery gives poor people a false sense of hope that one day their financial situation will be completely remedied with minimal effort or change to their current mindset or behaviors. This false sense of hope prevents many people from taking action and making the changes necessary to improve their financial well-being on their own.

  • State lotteries and all lotteries should be abolished, gamble on the stock market.

If you really want to gamble, you can play the stock market or buy junk bonds using a random number generator to pick. If you want to donate to a charity or pay extra taxes, no one is stopping you. The working class would be better off as a whole if they just kept their money. The winners do not put most of their money back into the working class in ways that improve the standard of living.

  • Who's it really helping

State lotteries may generate a little extra revenue for the public school systems but they also create holes in the pockets of the buyers every day. How much money is spent on average each year by regular lottery players? While it's completely their choice to go play and occasionally they may win it still really offers no benefit to the player in general. It just creates another money consuming addiction.

  • No

I do not know why they would. It is a choice to play it and it brings tax dollars into the state. They are able to use that money for things like roads and schools. If people are spending too much money playing than they need to go to Gambling meetings.

  • No they shouldn't be banned...

Lotteries are suposed to be fun I don't see the problem with them. People need to learn to lighten up.. Have some fun in your life. What problem would come up in the lottery? It is fun!!! You can pay $3 and you can come back with $10! There is no problem there

  • Playing the Lottery is a CHOICE

I think that state lotteries bring a lot of revenue for public schools, which is a great thing. Yes, a lot of people waste a lot of money on lottery tickets, but that is their choice. There are worse things to be addicted to. Also, addictions come in many forms- foods, tobacco, drugs, alcohol, etc. If that is the argument, then we should ban pretty much everything that causes addictions.

  • I think that state lotteries are very important and they should never be abolished under any circumstances.

I think that state lotteries are very important and they
should never be abolished under any circumstances. State lotteries bring a lot of money in revenue
to the state. Some of this money is
often used to pay to fix roads or help with scholarships for many deserving
    college students.
