Should students be able to listen to music with curse words at school?

  • The argument in no is a false dichotomy

Exactly how does music with curse words interfere with learning? People apply this same fallacy to anything they want to ban in school "you're here to learn not..." and they never stop to critically examine whether the activity in question actually interferes with learning. For students it might in which case those students will have to learn not to do it for their own sake, but other students may find they are more attentive and alert during their classes if they can listen to the music they like in the hallway and cafeteria.
With arguments like in the No column we teach students to limit their concept of "learning" down to what authorities tell you you should know. Kids falsely get the impression that there are things that you can't learn from, but that's not true. You could get so intensely into these songs that you start learning about how the lyrics and the swear words serve roles and purposes in social communication and may even be related to trends in society over time.

  • Some bands save lives.

The bands people support now are worse than that. They talk about peoples butts and spit on their fans. The ''emo'' groups save thousands of lives each year and they have curse words in it. Plus they talk to their fans and tell you not to bleed and that they will be there for you. Schools across the planet are banning them for cursing and being evil when if you listen to the songs, read the lyrics, you will understand. They help people and are not evil but have the biggest hearts and care for everyone.

  • Releases stress on school work and problems all alike.

At some point in a young teenagers life you have or just heard of curse works from an adult or movie or music. Most songs I listen to have some curse words and it helps me forget what bad things had happened that day and now a days parents don't do much to stop their teenager from listening to thing type of thing. Also, hearing or even cursing in general will help some one to get some emotions off their chest .

I thing that this also helps teenagers in class focus on their work or even block out or be given ideas form cursing of words in songs. My teachers curse all the time so....... It's not a big deal now and what we do in class now will stress everyone out. Music with curse words help young teenagers focus and relax in class and work harder then before. Unless the young teenager is a little spoil brat (Not meant as an insult to any one here or online) , but other then that songs with curse words help teenagers all over the world!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Whats he dance for?

I believe that the students should be able to choose there song because they earned a dance and should get what they want not something thats appropriate to the school. Some may argue that it can affect their language but letting them listen to something they enjoy means they have heard before and haven't been affected.

  • Some kids are in kindergarten

Some younger kids might over hear older kids playing bad music and think it is ok to say the bad word and say them. Most parents don't want there 6 year old saying bad words. If one kindergartener says bad words to the other kindergarteners they will all be cursing.

  • Absolutely no way!

School is DEFINITELY not the place for music in general, let alone music with cursing in it. Schools are there to learn from, not to entertain yourself. Not to mention the fact that a school is a facility that is supposed to teach how to be a good person. Listening to music with curse words in it is the opposite of what schools should be doing.

  • No, students should not be able to listen to music with curse words at school.

I believe that students should not be able to listen with music with curse words at school. Unfortunately, for some high school students, their conversations are already peppered with numerous four-letter words. It seems like it is becoming more and more acceptable to use curse words while talking. If they listen to music with curse words I think it will just become more natural for them and they will see nothing wrong with it.

  • Songs should not even have curse words

There is plenty of evidence that listening to or watching something can have a profound effect on a persons psyche. Hearing swear words in a song will cause them to be more likely to use swear words. This can lead to being suspended from school, fired from jobs or into fights when they upset someone. It's not a great habit to be developing.

  • Why this is not a valid source

Look how easy it is to post a comment on here. Anybody can do this. This is your teacher proving to you why this is not a legitimate source. I can write anything. I don't have to use facts. I can totally make them up. For example, listening to Wiz Khalifa increases your test scores. Who would believe that? I mean, seriously?

  • Cussing is bad

If students listen to songs with curse or swear words they will be encouraged to say curse words. If they keep listening to these songs or videos they will develop more and more curse words. This will encourage them to steal , drink, and to say even more curse words.

  • Its not right

Parents wonder why their teens and children are so corrupt but look what they want to allow . If the parents what their children to grow up and be respectful, but then the parents are allowing the kids to listen to curse words IN SCHOOL . What is wrong with you people and FYI i am a teenager and high school would be better if teens didn't listen to music with curse words while in school or at all . Music influences you whether you realize it or not .

  • What happens after

Curse words in music is something kids should never be allowed to listen to. This " popular music " is nothing but a bunch of dumb things.
The song " anaconda " is about drug abuse and a girl getting seduced. This could " inspire " girls and boys to do the same. This is not freedom of expression it is poison for young kids and adults. It is a problem, because this could lead to drugs, sex, repeating these bad words, and suicide. Even though there are bad words in the bible doesn't mean we should say them. And I say the same thing about movies with cursing. It does not release stress at all ! It actually causes stress by putting pressure on kids minds. And when a curse word is in a book it is not the same thing.
In classic or old books there is cussing because it wasn't a big deal at that time but now when it could mean anything we all should care. This our future we are talking about here. Our kids and grandkids will be destroyed by listening to this music. A kid only thinks it is cool at first and think " oh, I am mature enough. I can listen to this." but the aren't. The song " thrift shop " is another example of poison for the brain. It could ( again ) " inspire " kids to steal things and drink. All of this " popular music" today is a bunch of rubbish and kids can't even dance or find the right movements to the song.
