Should students be allowed to pick what they want to learn in school?

  • Because I think

Students should pick what they learn because then they won't bug their parents and have to spend money just to learn something. Teacher would benefit because, students won't be lying around in class and they'll get better grades because they would pay more attention and get every word in their head.

  • Students should be allowed to pick what they want to learn.

I think students should be allowed to learn what they want to learn, because they should have all the rights to learn , the things they want to discover. It's really not fair that they are not getting to pick the lessons in school! So, I will always say yes for this topic..

    Thank you!

  • Yes!!! We should be allowed to decide!!!

When students are allowed to choose what they want to learn about, they learn to love the things they love more than ever. They learn new things about themselves and they get to explore deeper and become brave and get out of their comfort zones. They learn to live life to the fullest.

  • Yes, they should get to pick what they learn.

Students should pick what they learn because then they won't bug their parents and have to spend money just to learn something. Teacher would benefit because, students won't be lying around in class and they'll get better grades because they would pay more attention and get every word in their head. Scientists and even teachers say that if you are listening closely that you will remember more easily. A teachers responsibility and the states job is for students to learn. If they aren't learning things that they're interested then they will get bad grades and not want to go to school and their parents might homeschool them which the school will close down. Parents and teachers would agree with this because students are having to learn things that the state made them learn that are ridiculous for that grade! Think about when somebody has a job and never learned about this subject that they had to learn. Since the state didn't teach them that they won't get that job and the job won't benifit.

  • Students need to experience many different things

If students are allowed to pick all their own subjects most will stick to things they already feel comfortable with. School is about making sure they experience new things. It is important for all students to be studying certain subjects like English, mathematics, science, health, history, geography, civics, physical education, computers and so on.

Kids should also be introduced to a variety of electives such as art, music, dance, drama, shop, graphics, agriculture and home economics. It they can choose before even trying these subjects many will never even know they have an aptitude for them.

This is an open-ended sort of question. To what extent is it referring to? Should students be allowed to pick ALL their classes? Or should students be allowed to pick specific electives (which most public schools -and possibly private, but I have no knowledge of private schools- already allow)? The question really isn't clear enough to say either way.
