  • The answer is quite simple.

Texting while driving accidents cause nearly $8 BILLION worth of car accidents (Assuming the average car wreck causes $5,000 worth of damage) and while this is great for the car repair industry, about 4,000 people die per year just because of distractions within the vehicle and 450,000 are injured! You've got to be quite thick to not let these facts sink in.

If you claim that it will only make matters worse and persons will simply be hiding them, good for them! If they crave the attention so much that they cannot handle real life, have at it. I'm sure I'd feel so comfortable about knowing I am 4x more likely to kill or injure a fellow human being and even more so within a neighborhood. Why endanger others while texting when you could just drive off a cliff and injure less people.

Seriously, if you text or call while driving, I immediately regard you as a true idiot and deserve not to be worthy to drive on any nation's roads and should be forced to serve time or volunteer cleaning up car accidents to see the true horrors that these distractions cause.

Be safe and drive as if you actually have regard for your health and others.

    Cheers.

  • Hands Free should be a Law in every State!

How could some be so ignorant to look down at their phone to answer a text, it's putting everybody else on the road in danger because of the level of concentration that it takes. Allof you over in the no section probably text and drive on a daily basis and don't want to hide your phone while your driving.

  • Is a text really worth someone's life

A text message is a text message so what if its your best friend or boyfriend that person can wait what a couple minutes. Just think is a text message worth almost killing someone. Responding to a text and driving has so many risks. Many people die every day don't make it more that.

  • Yes, texting and driving should be illegal.

Texting and driving can be a very dangerous act. It can potentially kill many innocent victims by being involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident. Tests have shown that texting and driving can be more dangerous then driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. This is why it needs to be illegal.

  • Texting should be illegal!

We were learning about distraction while driving and my classmate even had concussion because her mother was texting and not paying attention to the road. The most important thing is, while in the car, to look where you are going, not to text someone when you can do that anytime.

  • Of course it should be illegal

Texting and driving is crazy and it causes death and injury. Sometimes I think that other people should think before they do crazy things like texting and talking while driving. If people would think things through before they did them a lot of innocent lives would be saved. So please think before you act.

  • YES, it should be illegal!

Do you think that you should be focusing on anything other than the road while driving? I believe texting while driving should be illegal. According to U.S government website for distracted driving, the year 2010 registered a total of 3,000 deaths as a result of crashes due to distracted driving. Texting/cell phone use has emerged to be the greatest cause of road accidents.
Texting while driving should be illegal because not only does it take your eyes and hands away from what you should be doing, it also mentally distracts you from paying attention to the road. You are not only putting yourself at risk, you're putting other innocent people at risk. The incidents of accidents resulting from texting and driving are increasing daily, and need to be stopped.
Text messaging has grown to become very popular to many teens and even adults, in the past few years. It can be very useful, but it can also be very distracting when driving. If you text while driving, you lose your concentration and increase the risk of injury to yourself and to others.Text messaging requires visual, manual, and cognitive distractions from the driver, it is by far the most alarming distraction. Text messaging while driving should be illegal, because it increases the risk for accidents and it isn't even needed. If you must contact someone while driving, at least call the person on speakerphone.

Sending texts while driving is very dangerous. Why would you want to risk your life just to send a text? Texting while driving should be illegal. Not only does it put yourself in danger it puts other people around you in danger. Texting while driving a car makes you 23X more likely to crash. That is why texting while driving needs to be stopped.

  • Deadly distractions

There is no question that texting and driving is deadly. People on the roads today simply think that they are experts at the art of multitasking, and find it nearly impossible to do only ONE thing (driving) at a time. The only solution is to take the phone out of the driver's hands altogether.

  • texting while driving

Yes, in my personal opinion, I think that texting while driving should be illegal. Lately, it's caused so many accidents and deaths that could be prevented if they would only pull over to text. All you have to do is call someone or pull over on the side of the road or in a parking lot to text someone.

  • Absolutely.

In order to drive, one needs full attention. I believe we often forget how dangerous being on the road is. Texting is so ubiquitous in today's world that I think the solution would be to provide safe ways to "text" while driving. However, I believe there have been studies that found talking with a head piece to be just as dangerous as talking with a phone in your hand. The bottom line is, we need to PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD.

  • You cannot prove they were texting.

Texting and driving is dangerous, but if you ban texting and driving, you must also ban all other distractions behind the wheel. Plus, if a cop pulled you over, how could he prove that you were texting and driving. Texting makes up 23 percent of distracted driving accidents. But, lets not forget about the other 77 percent. Why arent we complaining about that. If you ban texting and driving, you must ban screaming children, food and drink, and all other distractions.

  • No,not at all.

Think about it. Don't you think the policeman have more important things to do then to catch people tenting and crossing the street. What if there is a robbery and a policeman is giving someone a ticket for texting while walking across the street. Who would stop the robber? No one

  • Just Like Gun Control

I don’t think we do, anymore than we need greater gun regulation because of the increasing number of deaths and injuries caused by guns. Cellphone usage should be viewed in the same way. Yes, it may cause reckless driving, so let it be penalized as such. Laws do not fix societal issues, but increased awareness, community and individual effort.

  • What about emergencies?

Hypothetically speaking: You are driving to work when you get a call from your mother, your brother (sister, cat, dog, whatever), just got hit by a car! So you rush home calling your dad to tell him. Then when you get home your mom is heart broken but you and your dad are there so she is comforted.
None of that would have happened if you weren't allowed to use your phone while driving. And this is a very real situation. You would have gone to work clueless, along with your dad and what would the situation be when you get home? Awful. All because your mother couldn't call you right then.

  • It should be legal in every state that the governent thinks it should be!!!

  • People will still want to do it

If you think of the ban on alcohol, it didn't help, it just made people want to make and drink alcohol even more. If we ban it people will hide it and get themselves into more trouble because they will be looking even further down at the screen ad less at the road trying mot to get caught.

  • What about other distractions?

What about the use of GPS. It is way more convenient and efficient to use Google Maps. How are we going to ban texting if it can't even be proven half the time? Is it okay to text and drive? Absolutely not, but that doesn't mean that it should be illegal just because there are stupid people. Of course there will always be idiots.
