Should the accused have the right to a speedy trial?

  • This seems very obvious.

This is either a troll argument, or a poorly chosen question, but ill bite. Everyone deserves the right to a speedy trial so they can A) Be tried for specific crimes to determine guilt. And B) Be tried in a timely manner as to not rot in jail for their entire life. (cough* Guantanamo Bay*)

  • It is clearly stated in our Constitution that the accused are entitled to a fair and speedy trial.

I personally do not see how this topic can be argued against. For all people to be as free as possible, we must ensure that the trials are fair, as to prevent the innocent from going to prison falsely, and speedy, as to get the people back to their private lives as quickly as possible and get the accused through the process as painlessly as possible.
