With the horrific news of the Orlando nightclub shooting came the inspiring news that people across the country were donating money (and blood) to a community rocked by tragedy. Leaders of all faiths and political backgrounds stepped forward to offer critical words on what had happened, and this included the Dalai Lama. However, I don't think he said enough to get across just how awful the Orlando shooting was.
The Dalai Lama is clearly a man that believes in peace. However, when violent acts, like the shooting in Orland occur, the Dalai Lama should loudly condemn such terrible attacks. He should call out those that wish to do harm against others. He should demand that societies do more to reject violence. In short, the Dalai Lama should have said more to condemn the Orlando terrorist attack.
The Dalai Lama expressed what he believed should have been done in regards to the Orlando shooting. He is compassionate and driven, and seeks to educate others to become the same. Most media platforms are shrouded in negativity about the event, and he shed much needed optimism on the nation. What he emphasized greatly encouraged citizens to be pro-active, and did not garnish any of the situation.
When it comes to a tragedy not everybody has to chime in about it. We all know it is terrible, we do not need a public figure to cement that feeling. We are already aware of how horrible the Orlando shootings were it does not make it any better just because a public figure speaks out about it.
