Should the federal government fund more research into finding cures for cancer?

  • Yes, increased government funding into cancer research is beneficial for all citizens.

The government should invest heavily into cancer research because it would benefit millions of people, not just in the United States, but also around the world. Any research that deals with understanding a particular disease or condition is good because the scientific implications that follow it are tremendous. Cancer research fundingi should the the United State's number one goal.

  • Yes, The federal government can do more to help cure cancer

Most funding for cancer and other life threatening illnesses are privately funded with very little government involvement outside of over site from the FDA.
The government spends millions a year on funding special interest group's agendas and not truly helping the American people. Personally I see no value in spending on so much to on convincing the people that the government is working for you. Shift these costs to something that can truly help the country

  • Government does science well

Government funding for science research is money well spent, far better than on essentially any other dollar that could be set. Government has shown that it can do science in a big way, but, rather than playing to its strong point, money is constantly cut from the research fields across the board.

  • What should be funded is research on how to prevent cancer.

Unfortunately, nobody seems to research in this direction... Probably because it has little to none prospect in financial gain.

Current researches are all about finding cures for cancer. A true "cure" for cancer would be a huge money grabber. This reason along is enough for private medical/pharmaceutical companies to pour more than enough funds into related researches.

Private companies won't fund researches on how to prevent cancer because it likely won't produce profit. But, if methods to effectively prevent cancer can be developed, it will surely benefit the general public. The government should put its resources into something that would benefit the general public.

On the other hand, it would surely benefit the general public if methods to effectively prevent cancer can be developed. This is the kind of research the government should fund. Such research would likely result in little to none financial gain for private companies. Logically private companies won't fund something that has no prospect in profit.

  • They Already Do

I do not believe the federal government should fund more research into finding cures for cancer. I believe the federal government already funds these projects properly. If they need additional funding I think we should expect more donations for the wealthier citizens within the United States. Philanthropy should help support this cause as well.

  • The private companies will do it.

No, the federal government should not fund more research into finding cures for cancer, because the private drug companies have plenty of incentive to do research to solve the problem amongst themselves. The companies have a lot of money to gain once they finally solve cancer, so we can have faith that their work will end cancer without government funding.
