Should the government be able to spy on other countries?

  • Yes, every government should be able to spy on other countries.

    While aggressive and predatory monitoring should be carefully policed, I believe intimate knowledge regarding international affairs should very well be known by other countries. This should be simply because it is the duty of every government to protect its people in any and every it can. Having the ability to learn of malicious intent from any other government gives us (and any other country) the headstart needed to protect its citizens from attack.

  • Yes, spying is fine as long as everyone does it.

    I think we are naive if we do not understand that spying is a major activity of political life. If other countries do it, then so should we. Of course it might be helpful to have a pact with allies that says no spying on each other is allowed, but then there would also have to be a reasonable way to enforce such a ruling to make everyone safe.
