  • The space programme is a good long term investment

The long term survival of the human race will ultimately require the colonization of some other planet or moon. Otherwise, a meteor strike, sudden climate change, or other global catastrophe could threaten to wipe out humanity. Although there are few guaranteed short term benefits of investing in space travel, it is a necessary long term investment to ultimately set up a colony in space and ensure human survival.
Moreover, many scientific discoveries have been made as a result of the space programme, and further investment could increase human understanding in countless fields.

The government should definitely bring back space travel. Not only did space travel play an important role in the growth of the country in the past, but it would help this nation prepare for the future. Although the space program is expensive, expanding the body of scientific knowledge that we have access to would pay off in the future.

  • No, I do not think the government should bring back space travel

My opposing opinion on this matter is based on the fact that there are more pressing issues that the United States government can spend their money on. Homelessness, veterans affairs, poverty, and domestic hunger - to name just a few. I honestly believe these causes deserve more resource dollars and focus.
