Should the government raise taxes to balance the budget?

  • In the right ways

Raising taxes is the only way to help our country start to get out of the huge national debt we are in, but only if we raise taxes in the right ways, or cut off government spending in places, but our country uses a vast amount of resources, and people are not willing to part with these luxuries, so something has to give.

  • Lowering taxes isn't the answer.

The only way the United States is going to get out of debt is by initiating Restrictive Fiscal Policy. However, raising taxes isn't enough and shouldn't be done only to the rich. Taxes should be raised for everybody and total spending needs to decrease. If we keep lowering taxes our economy will go bankrupt.

  • They need to so that the government can keep on supporting us citizens

Let's face it, almost all of America technically belongs to China, and we need to pay China back before we are neck high in war. Those who say not to raise the taxes are normally republicans and believe that the tax raise will shut down minimum wage businesses but they are wrong. Us democrats believe that raising the taxes will allow those working at minimum wage jobs a real career which will also take in more money. So, in other words, the republicans believe in long term taxes and Democrats believe in short term taxes. Well, the debt America is in is deep enough, and this is a matter that needs to be resolved now!

  • Yes. Raise taxes...But that's not the whole story.

While raising taxes is vital to lowering the national debt, we also have to come up with a budget that works to lower the spending each year. It's a difficult issue because it's one that, if done correctly, would make people unhappy, and some more than others.

I personally think we need more tax brackets so taxes on the super rich are higher than those at the lower end of the spectrum. Tough decisions have to be made. For instance, coming up with a new system for assisting the lower class that makes sense. Right now the government gives SO MUCH money to the lower class without having enough limitations in place to prevent overspending for those programs. The government does it because of the children involved, but it's the parents who often reap the benefits. That's a broken system.

But none of it matters because the American people do not care about the national debt. They care about higher wages and lower taxes. We need a president who will do what needs to be done regardless of what the public opinion is. They may be seen by the public as the worst president in history, but they will be saving America in the process. By the people who actually understand and care about this stuff they would be seen as a hero. Oh well!

  • We want what the government provides

To balance the budget on cuts alone would leave us with just the military, Social Security, Medicare, Debt payments and the Department of Justice. We would have to get rid of everything else the government does and we just aren't willing or prepared to do that. So the only way to balance our budget and stop digging the hole is to raise taxes.

  • There is to many people in dept

Lowering taxes will decrease the amount of people without homes and give people more stability with their profits. It could also save people money so they can buy more useful things such insurances of all sorts, and probably donate or something like that. People could save up to start businesses of all sorts.

  • Taxes are bad.

Taxes are a way of obama stealing money from hardworking americans so that he can donate it to kenya. Kenya is a communist republic of islam and there is no weed in kenya. Therefore taxes should be abolished because they are the reason that people get kicked out of their homes.

  • We are forgetting people!

Does no one remember all those people in debt? Well we need to not raise taxes because if we do we'll make people lose their homes faster! Because if their debt is higher that their home mortgage then they will get throws out into the streets. And no one has realized that? It would ruin their lives and more people would want to raise prices on shops and then they wouldn't be able to pay for anything!

  • Taxes should not be raised.

I believe taxes shouldn't be raised because some people who are struggling in paying bills or paying their house off then it may be a struggle for them to even pay taxes because they may not have that type of money only few people can pay that off with no worry.

  • Taxes should not be raised

People may not be able to pay
its not fair and only the rich can pay
the whole point of taxes is to help out the community well putting people in to poverty is not helping.
And if its not helping there is no use of having the program right.
