  • Random people shouldn't be trusted with something so important

Would you have your kid's teacher randomly chosen from the general public? How about your doctor?

There are skills that go into making a fair judgment. You have to be aware of common psychological biases that may effect your thinking in order to counter them. You have to be able to think logically so you aren't persuaded into a verdict by a lawyer's clever use of logical fallacies.

Many trials are decided based on fallacies, particularly appeal to emotion. Innocent people are convicted an guilty people walk because of that.

The separation of powers between judge and jury makes sense, but the jury itself should be run by professionals, not a random assortment of characters, many of whom care more about going home faster moreso than arriving at a fair verdict.

  • Jurors don't know that law.

I believe that the court systems should abandon jurors. We have our own flaws that can have big impact on a court case. Personal experiences, racism, and sexism can completely throw a person on a certain side. People are on trial for a crime not what a person who doesn't specialize in law think. Judges should have the ruling and make the right decision based on the law.

  • Justice for All People

I believe that having a jury of you peers is a fair way to determine a verdict. When you have 12 different minds looking at all the facts you have a lot better chance of getting to the truth which is more fair and accurate for all concerned. I know it is often very time consuming, but needs to be fair when you are talking about people's lives.
