Should the legal age for drinking be 18 (yes) or 21 (no)?

  • Lowering the age doesn't increase alcohol abuse

A lot of countries already have a legal drinking age of 18 (Australia, the UK, Ireland) and there are no higher rates of alcohol abuse in those countries than there are in the United States. The attitude towards alcohol in the media and advertising is what needs to change to lower abuse rates.

  • Yes and No

I agree with both of the above statements. But the reason I also am saying no it should probably stay at 21 is that the adolescent brain does not fully develop until around the age of 21. At 18, it is still in the process of developing fully. This is the only argument against it that I have though.

  • It should be 18.

The legal drinking age in the United States should be lowered to 18 years old. At 18, you are considered an adult by the government and you should be allowed to choose if you want to drink or not. If you are old enough to be able to go to war, you are old enough to drink.

  • Make it 18

The drinking age should be lowered to 18. Realistically, people start drinking at 18 or younger anyway whether it be in high school or when they go off to college. People are going to drink no matter what and by making it legal it can avoid a lot of troubles.

  • No to the lower threshold

Kids are dumb. They make bad decisions.
Although the government can train them to kill others efficiently at 18,
I think it is still a bad idea. Most kids cant even make simple decisions
without mucking it all up. Throwing alcohol into the mix would surely make things a whole lot worse.

  • No to the lower standard.

  • It should be 21

You can black out while drunk. You can start saying bad words all the time. If 18 less responsible for drinking beer and wine. You can get liver damage. Teenagers need time to get mature. 21 is not to high not to low. You can get bad grades. You can get constipated.

  • Teens already abuse it

If you make it so that teens can already drink alcohol, they are protected by the law when they do stupid things as a result. It should be increased, maybe not to 25, but at least to 23 that way teens will be less likely to abuse it. If it is lowered, then maybe it will be lowered again in the future

  • Dranking is too bad

If you will ask me drinking liquor or alcoholic drinks is too bad, because
it will bring bad effects to the taker or drinker. It can cause disease that are too harmful for us! If we can try to avoid drinking why should we try
they said there is no bad in trying.

  • No way should it be lowered!

The drinking age should be raised to 25! I believe even at 21, alcohol is abused! Too many of our younger generation drink themselves to oblivion, they have no regard when it comes to drinking responsibly! At least at 25, they are a little older, and have a more mature way of thinking & processing things.

  • It should not be lowered!

The highway fatalities will increase and the number of funerals of young adults will also increase. This drinking age situation has a "trickle down" effect. If the drinking age is lowered to 18, then the 15 year olds will look at the "forbidden fruit" with more eager eyes. It's closer to their reach than if the drinking age remains at 21.
